    I'm so glad you liked Amorsolo's paintings! He's been my favorite Filipino painter for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, before I even knew his name, I would often come across his paintings online, and I'd see so many other artworks clearly inspired by his style. I've always admired the way he beautifully captured the Philippine countryside and culture-his use of vibrant colors and the way he depicted native Filipinos in everyday life is truly remarkable. His art really brings the essence of the Philippines to life!
    Also at 9:16 that would be sisig, traditionally it consist of pig face and pork belly but through the years people have came with new versions like milkfish sisig, beef sisig, tofu sisig,etc. And at 9:26, that would be sinigang na pakwan(watermelon sinigang) sinigang is a soup or stew characterized by its sour and savory taste, and there are different type of sinigang like pork, sinigang, beef sinigang, fish sinigang,etc. And watermelon in a sinigang is very uncommon and alot of filipinos would find the idea of putting a watermelon in sinigang to be completely repulsive. It's probably that restaurant's specialty.

    • @popshiking
      @popshiking  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you so very much for this comment! My whole visit I was given lots of different and delicious local food to the point of being overwhelmed in a very positive way, but couldn’t remember the names of anything I ate! Hahaha! Yeah the restaurant’s line was “traditional food with a modern twist” so I guess that was what was up with the watermelon in the sinigang na pakwan. And yes the fine arts museum was a real highlight as was Amorsolo’s work. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!

    I really enjoyed this video. For me this was an introduction to such an interesting city. Thank you for introducing me to Amorsolo. I can definitely understand your comparison to Wyeth. Looking forward to more on the art museum. The Basilica built of steel was fascinating. The cemetery was beautiful.

    • @popshiking
      @popshiking  11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’m so glad! Manila is truly a fascinating place. It really is a mix of old and new. Yeah more on the fine art museum to come. I love seeing art in different cultures from my own. Particularly interesting. It would be hard to overstate how impressive that cemetery is. There are mosaics which document all the major battles of the pacific theater.

    The pasig river is actually already revitalized. It's not the cleanest and still has pollution issues. But if you look at how it used to look like 20 years ago, you'd be amazed at how different it is now. It was declared biologically dead before, but not now since you'll see fishes swimming there now. Before, you'd barely see anything but trash and the smell of rotting animals and feces. Now, there's arguably no scent at all unless there's a storm or heavy rains.

    We Filipinos like to put gravy on our fried chicken. Jollibee always serve it as a condiment in the Philippines and some US locations, but KFC always charges it as a side dish.

    • @popshiking

      Hahaha! I saw that gravy came with it but didn’t understand what was for. My friends finally told me but I guess I’m too much of a fried chicken by itself fan. Funny that KFC the American chicken place charges.

    That wide street with acacia trees on the sidewalk is the posh gated community of Forbes Park. An elite residential area for Filipino rich neighbors. You forgot to highlight the Entertainment City which seats the Okada Manila which is one of the best casino resorts in the area of that entertainment city in Paranaque in Manila.

    The name of the coffee shop is Arabica not percent. The % is not a percent but actually a representation of two coffee beans on a coffee branch.

    You can actually take a video of the Manila-American cemetery but not for commercial purposes, but even if you upload it in youtube, there have been many people who have done that, you can just be discreet about it though like during recording.

    • @popshiking
      @popshiking  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I hear you. But I’ve traveled a variety of places particularly Native American lands where they make the request for no video so I just try to follow their requests out of respect as I appreciate the opportunity to visit those places.
