    I'm gonna add that if anybody is confused on why his snake hook works like this at the beginning of the video when he makes the base mesh, he has dynamic topology turned on to allow him to draw out arms and legs.

    Really cool model, your cloth and the steel look on the pollaxe is phenomenal.
    But as someone who knows (mostly) how to make armour it's fun to see someone who doesn't know the purpose of some parts and just adding them in 'because it looks right'.
    Don't get me wrong, it looks great. The detailing is nice and the understanding of materials is there. I'm envious as shit of your cloth.
    My best example though is the belt on the upper chest piece.
    What is that for? I know that medieval armours can have a belt there. But on this model it's just a belt that sits on one of the metal lames of the cuirass. It connects the lame to itself.
    Which makes its only purpose decorative. Which is fine.
    But the true purpose of that belt, is to connect the upper half of a cuirass to the bottom half. Making it so that the bottom half fits snuggly to the upper part instead of jutting out.
    But since this models cuirass is one piece (another pet peeve, how does he get it on?) this function is not required.
    The model is filled with such little details that i notice because i know how it should work and thusly i notice them being wrong.
    It's obvious you haven't gone for a historical look. With those chonky thicc plates and spikes and shit. It's cool stuff, i like the look. But nit picky people will notice the inaccuracies. (I guess nit picky people like me :P)
    If you ever want to do a hyper realism historical model you have to learn it.
    But for this highly stylised and exaggerated fantasy look it looks nice as is. I'd just think it was way cooler if all the little details were spot on. But i try to not be too picky with peoples hard work.
    Again, cool model, great material knowledge and control over the program.

    • @Kio_Kurashi
      @Kio_Kurashi ปีที่แล้ว

      Strictly speaking, it should be the upper arm bone that controls how much deform you have, but the pauldrons you might want anchor to the upper chest bone or if you need it to be very manipulatable you can create a separate bone that is parented to one of the two previous ones that controls only the pauldrons.

If you start working as a 3d artist, every supervisor, every single one will require you to do it. And it is better to rename everything as you go rather than all at the end

    Nice! did oyu use references for this? Im curious to see them

  • @pyros.
    @pyros. 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I've always been curious about this. Do you create the character first and then create it again for the video, or is it raw modeling purely from imagination?
    Cause I seem to need dozens of references for armour and clothing and and I screw with one armour piece for like an hour trying to get it looking how I want.
    I def cant mock up a whole armour set in one go, as I spend far too long figuring out what I want the next piece to look like and trying to make it look good. Currently going on 4 weeks for my current character, and I'm still not happy with it really.

    • @atgvolumes6772
      @atgvolumes6772 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I imagine it just takes time man. I'm going to be starting doing this soon, ( I haven't even touched blender before as of writing this comment) but I am an audio engineer and musician. Some of the things I do now easily is stuff that when I started I never would have even thought that I could do it. About a year and a half ago, I decided to branch out from my roots (metal) and composed some cinematic/trailer/cutscenes styled medevalish music. It went great, and I had no idea where to start, I just did it. At some point it's less about referencing and more about trusting your skill, at least for me it is.

    • @pyros.
      @pyros. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@atgvolumes6772 Yeah, in the year since I made that comment I learned a lot and found out that It's what most people call a visual library.
      The goal is to work on certain things long enough until you know what it should look like from memory.
      Also, good luck starting out. It can be a bit frustrated at first trying to figure out how things work, but It's def worth pursuing in the long run.

    • @atgvolumes6772
      @atgvolumes6772 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@pyros. absolutely man, I'm happy to see you get it all figured out! And yeah I definitely am expecting a massive challenge, but I'm confident after learning 2 separate softwares for music, and on my way to learning a third, plus various plugins and audio "rules" and then learning how to properly break those rules.
