The line was good, but the truth is he was sort of right. I saw that episode, and no-one was criticising the soldiers. In fact, he actually made some fair point...and I'm not particularly fond of the man, but he did. I suppose she knew, unpopular as he is to a large section of the British public, that the line would go down well... Which is a bit lazy, really.
The worst thing was the audience reaction to her "one liner" - she was wrong to behave like that. Tim Vine : now he is THE master of the one liners.......
The thing is that she didn't have an answer to what he was arguing, and she resorted to a lame joke that wasn't even funny. I can't believe the audience even laughed at it. As Kilroy himself said, it was an easy line and didn't detract from the point he was making. It made her look pathetic.
The problem with her argument is that she's essentially saying that military officers should be allowed to essentially be insubordinate. You do that and you open the floodgates for soldiers to go against orders whenever it suits them. Where do you draw the line on whether or not it's permissible for them to do so? It's not quite so black and white. The fact of the matter is soldiers can't be held accountable for the decisions made by politicians. When you sign up to join the any branch of the armed forces, you sign up to follow orders and you're more than aware than that. It may not be something they entirely like but that's the cold, hard fact of the situation.
@tubehows4life It's all idealistic and nice and furry to expect soldiers to speak out but then what do you do with them when they come home and they're jobless in a country where there a few jobs already? You want soldiers to speak out and do this and that but are the rest of the UK prepared to deal with the consequences of soldiers not fighting and losing their jobs when they're made unemployed? You may have a point but are you willing to also pay the price?
@tubehows4life I wasn't saying it was more/less important. Are you willing to make potential sacrifices as well? You say they wouldn't necessarily be jobless for long? There's some folk still trying to find work who have been unemployed for two years. There's an average of 47 people going for the one job. Add a whole load of jobless soldiers to the equation and see how more hard It's going to get. It's one thing to be idealistic, It's another to stick by your guns when things get hard.

It's all very well being idealistic before reality kicks in. The UK might survive in the long run but the individual families may not. We can't know for sure what will happen to them. if anyone could they'd be making a fortune as a fortune teller. Asking other people to be heroes is one thing but are you prepared to be a hero yourself?
Well all I can say is that I have more respect for you having an answer (and a valid one) than the comedian in that vid who didn't had one and stooped to cracking a joke (and a unfunny one at that. I don't know what everyone was laughing at). By doing that all she did was make herself look bad and Kilroy look good from my perspective.
