  • Handspring Artistic Director Adrian Kohler and Executive Producer Basil Jones, founders of Handspring Puppet Company and creators of Little Amal, tell us all about how they brought this giant puppet of a young refugee girl to breath-taking life so that she can walk 8,000km across Turkey and Europe in order to shine an urgent light on the stories of the millions of young refugees.

I am currently in Mexico City. I crossed the town with Amal from Zocalo to Bellas, and the following day through Paseo de la Reforma. Amas is such an amazing puppet, expressing a non-verbal langage and strong emotions 💜💜 Walked with Amal is an unforgettable experience. Thanks to the Team of creators and puppeters.

I do believe Amal will have a huge impact on the way other people portray so called “Immigrants”. You know the people who was here in the first place?!

I'm so sorry you have that impression. Try to think that everyone is different. We don't need to be beautiful for everyone. We have to accept each other and pay attention to THE MESSAGE OF AMAL: Looking for acceptance, tolerance, love!!!! Imagine a little girl traveling through a foreign country looking for her mom! Try on her shoes for one single minute. You will see her beauty, her hope, her dreams.
Be compassionate. Our world needs more people that can recognize the beauty of being different, unique and express love in everything.
