You’ve showed us how to make the skeleton of a sump. For us novices looking at it we would benefit from the knowledge of assembling the eternal functions/ aquarium hook up. Nice sump tho
Hey Cooper this is one of your viewers as a guy who have built aquarium tanks before for aquariums or tanks whichever way anybody would like to announce or pronounce it you are right about using aquarium safe silicone what is also recommended did he use 100% silicone GE preferably no additives and with no more producers or killers in it it has to be 100% silicone preferably GE you don't necessarily have to buy Aqueon and that's dependent we're the personal lives and what's available that's it
Great Video! Thanks for your input Mike!. I like the way you made the right-angle-guide to make up a two-piece baffle - great tip!. Thank you very much p.s. Can I ask what filtration did you use? thanx
Hi Mike - thanks for the reply - did you use any other filtration in your sump besides the filter sock? Is your sump now in place? Is it working ok? Would you have done anything different? Thanx (sorry for all the questions :¬) )
PJ Jones In this tank setup so far I have not used any other type of filtration. The tank I run this sump on is a 29 gallon reef. The system has been running for about a year now. It's working extremely well, it provides solid filtration, gives me a good amount of extra water volume, and i still have room to add a small skimmer which I should hopefully be doing soon. There's nothing I would have done differently, I've been very satisfied with it.
I am a bit confused. (New to sumps) I am thinking about building a sump for my future 40 gallon breeder. I was wondering why you left the bottom of the filter sock area open. And if you put fuge mud in how that would work?
Jeanne Thanks for your comment and checking out my video!. I left the bottom of where the filter sock is open for the water that flows through the filter sock to then flow into the first chamber. If you're going to be setting up a 40 gallon tank what I would recommend is actually setting up a 20 gallon sump on a tank that size. If you take a look at my video for my DIY 20 gallon video you'll see the full set up, and you'll see that there is a refugium area, which is where you would out the miracle mud or sand or whatever you choose for your refugium.
Jeanne Haha sorry about that. I will post a new video soon here on TH-cam. I just got a new protein skimmer so after setting it up I'll post a video and let you know.
Buy aquarium from petco during dollar per gallon sale. Disassemble them, cut glass to size using simple glass cutter. Smooth edges with 200 grit sandpaper.
@1:54 Not important but the wood pieces are 1"x4"s Great job on the sump! Looks great for diy, very well put together and explained
Awesome sump! Great tips and tricks using shims and the 90 degree wood!
Tip- put wax paper on your wood to keep silicone from adhering.

Where do you buy those glass pieces?
What gallon sump do I need for a 125 gallon aquarium
