Is 5th Gear Top Gear's slower brother?
No it wasnt? The original Top Gear was around since 1977,then after it went away for a year THEN Fifth Gear came out before the return of Top Gear in 2002.
+Expert Troller From A Present how? I just stated,Fifth Gear started in April 2002,Top Gear started in 1977.
What do u mean😶😶🤔🤔🤔
He was referring to the reliant episode. Fifth Gear did the Reliant Episode before Top Gear
when people are saying who did the 3 wheeler challenge 1st.
Just for fun but will probably cause a argument, Tony Mason covered 3 wheeler racing on old old top gear
The reliant buggy looks awesome actually
+Gigidag77 Yes it looks cool😎
I was thinking...damn I want that!
For real I'd honestly like to buy one 😂
Yeah but Jeremy only did a 90*. This rooster did a 720*, so points to him.
14:45 "How did he do that?" Well, driving in dry
I kinda miss Tom Ford. In case no one knew, he's now a journalist for TopGear's magazine (since whenever, I forgot when).
Couple of glaring inaccuracies around 3:20 with the welding. That's a MIG welder so the wire isn't copper wire as stated in the video, it'll be steel since that's what they're welding. Also, the wire and gas don't come out at high temperature - that temp is created by an electric arc. Finally, the light can also burn skin, so not wearing appropriate gloves is also unsafe!
Thanks Daniel, don't listen to the haters.
FWIW: "MIG" = "Metal Inert Gas"
{Bonus definition: "TIG" = Tungsten Inert Gas} 😊
Talk about awkward handshake 0:08
Ikr
+DaBrute wtf hahaah
+Plantbased David Ⓥ Stop taking photos on your iPod touch. Get a real camera.
Weird, was he trying to be cool in some way?
Mr. Safety? LOL
He turned his car into a Caterham!
“It smells like when you set fire to your hair”
He seems like the kinda guy to know what that sounds like
well might as well take top gears Ideas since there not a real show anymore
This was before Top Gear did it, so actually it's the other way around.
Alan B +Alan B Original broadcast for this episode was 18/06/2007
Fifth Gear Top Gear did it much better, though.
+Cowcharge Not really, this was much more clever and humorous.
+Moto Rad Nah. Nothing beats Clarkson sliding his Robin on its door into the lot where the owners' club was meeting.
The fact that you can now buy these in the uk without having to tax or mot is quite possibly the single most dangerous yet legal thing that you can still do. I’m getting one ASAP!
Don't call him an ape... Jeremy Clarkson is the one and only.
Clarkson is an orangutang.
Technically Clarkson is an orangutan!
Haha my thoughts have changed in that 7 year period.
@@dGCyanide49 hi
Oh, hush about Top Gear, people. Just because something's been done doesn't mean others shouldn't take a crack at it.
Well, plus the fact that this episode was made before Top Gear's.
Hey the world is full of people doing things others have done, that's when gold happens cuz its complete stupidity.
I think the main problem is that most of top gear "fans" online are mentally challenged with a god complex
3:00 Copper wire?!?! sounds like no one here knows how welding working.
Just what iI thought!!
Reliant designed the suspension of the Robin to make it difficult to roll it over. Any alteration to the original set up, as this guy did, is bound to provoke easy roll overs. I had a 3-wheeler, though not a Reliant, and you quickly learn how to keep all 3 wheels on the ground, and how to get out of trouble if you miscalculate. I never rolled it, but I did corner on 2 wheels a few times.
Set up your line, keep your throttle and steering angle consistent (no rapid steering input or hard braking mid corner) and you'll surprise people.
the end of the hotlap competition was unfair! One drive in a wet track and the other dry track
I see what tom did..
He's shedding weight during practice. Ingenious
Tho nothing beats clarkson's ingenuity
Stiffin the rear suspension, widened the back tires as much as possible, put extra weight over the rear axle in back. Center the driver's seat.
This was pretty funny. I've never driven a 3 wheeler, but I'd like to try it in an open area just to see what it's like.
video starts here ===> 11:19
Too late. I've already watched it all
Bring Tom back! he was fun infront of camera
He works for Top Gear magazine now. And he did a Show called “Mud, Sweat and Gears” in BBC America with Mr. Smith.
Congrats on becoming Britian's #1 car show
worst handshake I've EVER seen..
Don't you mean "Worst, handshake, ever."
Fifth Gear was launched on Channel 5 in 2001 with some of the original Top Gear presenters, after Top Gear was cancelled. Top Gear was later relaunched by the BBC with new presenters. Fifth Gear was intended to be a continuation of Top Gear, but the BBC would not let Channel 5 use the same name, hence Fifth Gear.
This is better than new Top Gear
Love "mud sweat and gears." Just needs a bigger budget for cooler builds now!
I love Tom Ford so much, I'm glad he's back on our screens
Kind of ironic, I'm listening to Tears for Fears while watching this and then it starts playing in the black one.
I love Demolition Darbys! XD
:)
Mr MEMé someone didnt get the joke
Oh...don't be such a Karen!
He was faster because of the weather.
Thank you for some goooood belly laughs! Loved it!!!
A vehicle with no redeeming features whatsoever. Oh, except one - you could drive it on a bike license. So they were popular with bikers in the winter. Until they got to the first bend. A friend had one, he was hit from the side by a Triumph Dolomite which took the entire front end clean off. The Dolomite was a bit dented, but otherwise drivable. My friend's robin was in three major pieces - two halves of the body and the engine was completely separated. Amazing such an unsafe car was ever type approved.
It's pretty lightweight. That's its main redeeming feature.
Elliott Savva check out the MCC LDTs, there’s a chap there will show you what a Reliant can do. Les
The Reliant Robin is my favorite car of all time, but sadly the closest one for sale near me is a few thousand miles away
Hang on, are you an American?
My first thought was to put training wheels on the car in the front to keep it from rolling. and when they started reducing weight i thought about using some of the waste material to add some weight wjere it adds to a lower center of gravity and then get to race it. they could be done in 3 hours instead of eight.
Same here. But they put high friction skidplates. Stabilizer wheels on all four couriers of the car are better and safer.
Fifth Gear channel - 500k subs, Top Gear - 5 million subs
+GallinoMan Gallino the fine brothers - 13 million subs. The number of subscribers doesn't makes a channel great. Although I do prefer Top Gear over this.
The black one looks like a shrunken Suzuki samurai on 3 wheels and the red one looks like something straight out of a pile of post-apocalypse wreckage on a motorway.
You hqve to take the weight off the one front wheel/ tire! Make the back heavier than the front and you're fine
This is absolutely great!
Its like you guys are trying to replace Top Gear.
+Chris Andes Clueless are we? This is what Top Gear was before it went down the comedy route, if anything this came first. Tiff wanted to continue this format, Jeremy wanted to do comedy so Tiff left and formed Fifth Gear, that was about 20 years ago...
+Rob Fraser What is the bigger show? Enough said really.
+nemesisslr well fifth gear is, top gear is gone
Rob Fraser I wasn't going to respond but just figured out of the blue... if Tiff didn't go the comedy rout.. explain the seriousness of this video?
+Rob Fraser at least you're admitting this is not comedy. It's attempted comedy.
The progenitor to Mud, Sweat, and Gears
Forza Horizon 4 Physics be like...
May everyone reading this find the Lord and feel his blessing he gave us all on the cross🙏🙏🙏
You have the point and the Lords honour 🙏
I can feel the hearts of all the Robin enthusiasts breaking from here haha.
how can anyone be enthusiastic about these widow maker's they are way more dangerous than an bike an So much slower worst vehicle ever invented. now an old mini that's a marvel of engineering and very awesome indeed
YT: How many ads do you want in your video?
Fifth Gear: Yes
This is freaking hysterical!
When hes welding the roll cage in that isnt copper wire its mild steel with thin copper coating to protect the wire from oxidising before use.
urbansnipe not mild steel either it’s a welding alloy
@@spannaspinna mild steel is an alloy
What Reliant should have done was to dump the 3 wheeler (because of the limited market) and build a 4 wheel quadricycle (under 400kg and with a maximum power of 15 BHP). France and Italy are building these and they are selling well.
If Reliant could undercut the competition, they would be laughing.
One of the first challenge vids of the Knock off top gear. But it is good as Top gear
Triggered by “a NASCAR” because NASCAR isn’t a word. A NASCAR car
noo!! i feelsoo dirty!! im a top gear fan why am i watching this!?!
+xX_flying_mad_potato_ Xx Because they were all together before they became two shows?
Jonny's face, hair, voice, face hair, talent, face, voice, jeans, shoes and general existence make me want to go and shit in his letterbox.
like Lotus says: Power makes you faster on the straights but reducing weight will make you faster all over
Fifth gear is a pretty good show, and i love it specially because of Tiff's presence, but it'll never ever ever match Top Gear UK
Had arc eye once after welding a friends mini, got home about 5 miles and just threw myself on the sofa - could not make it upstairs!
The road was wet when he did it but dry when the other guy did it
"trust me, i am an engineer"
This is like top gear but the presenters don't hate each other.
how do you even get a reliant robin? i can't find any actual running ones for sale
WTF was that "handshake" at the beginning? LOL
Next Week on _Fifth Gear:_ *A VISIT TO THE **_ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON._*
😝😝😝😝
That looks like great fun!
''speed, power'' Oh hello there Jeremy.
Tellietubbies Mad Max the new block buster😊
The pigeon from BeamNG!
Super reliant robin Red in black nice colours
the reliants are different. the left one is saloon. the right one is estate
Chassis and mechanicals identical, just the rear of the body layout different.
+Ian Watson yes, i know it
Why has no-one commented on how strong that fibreglass is ... if that had been a small car ... in steel .....
Start at 14:55
If a Reliant Robin got rolled on this show like in Top Gear Series 15: Episode 1, they would put stablises on them so that they can put them lighter on force. Jeremy Clarkson would be proud with that idea. #TopGearForzaHorizon4
Topgear's was modified to roll over.
9:00 momento "oh dear"
When Johnny Smith had hair!
Ive had arch eye and actually got really really bad arch burn to my arms and neck and face because i didnt cover up like i was supposed to.
My brother-in-law (when he was 19) drove one of these down the motorway one Winter. A gust of wind blew him over. Luckily some lorry drivers put a cordon round him. Why were these awful cars driven? In my brother-in-law's defence, he was lent it by his Dad.When new, they were not even that cheap..... now I remember, they didn't need a driving licence.
David Hayes They did. You still needed a bike licence for it.
you should do a Reliant Robin drift contest
this is real sport ( not a ball in sight )
Well this kinda proves that Top gear did not specially rig their robins in order to make them roll over. The manufacturer already took care of that.
jsomiller44 Top Gear did modify it...
Damn genius
How the fuck they came up with 3 wheels cars
Like motorcycle but with one wheels
Damn genius
Monocycles are a thing.
Is there any 3 wheel Reliant's that have never rolled over?
Only the ones that never left the factory
It wouldn't be so bad if instead of a single front wheel there were 2 wheels at the front and 1 on the back.
yeah I've been thinking about yours. yeah go get yours, I can't wait to see yours- sounds Dirty
I liked this episode better when Jeremy did it on Top Gear.
Tom is kinda like Jeremy and Jonny is like James :P
Replace presenters with guys from car wow
hahah, young johnny cracks me up! xD
thats the first time iv ever heared that
That predator helmet though
You would not enter a Cart Horse in the Grand National, or get Desert Orchid to pull a plough, so why try and race a Reliant Robin. Horses for courses as they say.
i wanna do a bird in the red one i do get it rockin man
Fifths more localised than top
Should be on the TV more.
One thing I never understood, why would you put 3 wheels on a car.
What’s the music at 0:12 ?
I remember listening to it when i was a kid, but the fact that it has no english lyrics, i cant find find what its called
Do you mean Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes?
I would put a nother tier in the front for 4 wheels
This is a rollcage advertisement.
Is fifth gear the new top gear
15:56 the engine died on him on the reliant buggy?
I only remember these cars as the ones that Mr. Bean would always cause accidents around. That is the same car right?
Yes
+CigarBGuitarefx The Mr Bean car was a reliant but a much earlier Regal. There was the Regal from the sixties followed by the Robin from the seventies which eventually became the Rialto till its death. The Four wheeled versions were the Rebel till the seventies and then the Kitten.
Reliant Robin, more like Rolling Robin
Still better then prius
Which year was that made
The car or the video?
70,s
Sometime in the 1970's
