Hey Chris, thank you so much for your very thoughtful and generous video. I love Marc's work as well. I think Michael is visiting us next week. I really appreciate your including me. My very best wishes, Ian.
Ian, Michael and Chris you all are my everyday TH-cam watchlist. I’m learning something every time I watch you all. Thank you so much you all for these contributions. I didn’t have a chance to learn academically but I value yours more than conventional studies.
@@clownpocket I have been a professional artist for years now and run my own online school myself and i got my start watching his videos as well in the very beginning that first 2 years. It got me use to seeing shapes of value and color.

Paint Coach you are a rare phenomenon in our world. You recommend books and videos that really help us get better and not because you are getting commissions from them. I just bought some of the books you recommend, and they are fantastic. Thank you for being a great teacher and an example to all of us.
Thank you for recommending these other artists. Shows you aim to help your audience become better artists. Your unselfish approach is much appreciated.
Florent Farges is one of my favorites. He is a scientist when it comes to perception, color etc. AND he is very creative and a philosopher, too. He is quite cerebral. I quite like my paint coach, too. I've learned a lot from you. Thank you for teaching us.
I subscribed to quite a numbers of oil painting TH-cam channels, Vladimir Volegov, Florent Farges, Matthew Tarini Art, Alpay Efe, César Córdova, Samuel Earp, Andrew Tischler, Daria Callie, Michael James Smith, Malcolm Dewey, Bojidar Art, Beau B. Frank, Lena Danya, etc.
I borrowed Ian's book a long while back, but had no idea he had a channel, I will go check it out. Chris, I really love your teaching style, and really getting to the nuts and bolts of things. I've painted a long time off and on (mostly off) and have now started to follow your advice, I really like getting back into painting. Other teachers I like are Dianne Mize and Richard Robinson. Dianne is a retired art teacher and has wonderful small videos. Robinson mostly sells his videos now, but has good information on TH-cam about using different effects in your landscapes
Long time fan of Ian Roberts, his books before TH-cam. He sends out a newsletter to subscribers every Tuesday with a link to a new video. I look forward to that each week. One I'd add to this list is Gerda Lipsky. She's German and it is in German with English subtitles. Interesting techniques that have shifted something in my brain that has completely transformed my work. Checking out this list.
Already followed Chamberlein and Roberts. I also like Samuel Earp (he does a good job with narration), Yupari artist (that's the way it comes up on youtube) and Painting by Samir (he shows his painting and pallete as he works). Great job pointing out other artists!
Thanks for this video. By far James Gurney and Ian Roberts are the best! Love their books and videos, great information and inspiration in each video. You are an awesome coach and we all appreciate the time and effort producing the videos. Blessings and take care.
Chris you're amazing, and I am not not talking just about your magnanimity in bigging up other artists. Have learned a lot from your video tutorials too, so thank you for being here!
Hey Chris Mark Carder of Draw Mix Paint is exceptional and for purely visual watching Dusan from Perth WA is very helpful. David Dunlop is a game changer in all aspects.
Michael Chamberlain and Ian Roberts - yes! Chamberlain for his brush work and Roberts for how he simplifies a painting down to shapes and light/shadow.
Stuart Davies - he does tonalist landscape oil paintings. He has a really loose style and his process is fun to watch. His vids take a painting from start to finish, and he's very encouraging of new painters to just get in there and start mucking about.
I work in an artist materials shop, and I often recommend James Gurney and Lena Rivo to beginners/artists who want to learn more about gouache and/or plein air painting 🤩
@@ubimelibiapes333 yes they are FANTASTIC artists. So knowledgeable on so many aspects. Even oils. Gurneys watercolor techniques blow my mind and transfer alot into oil, or acrylic really.

I’m familiar with a few mentioned in video and in comments- applauding Chris asking for and allowing recommendations for other teachers- also applauding the responses aren’t snarky or snippy.
Hi Chris, thank you for sharing. Here are a few interesting artists : 1) Andrew Tischler (does amazing large realistic paintings) 2) Richard Musgrave Evans (does wonderful Plein Air palette knife paintings, sometimes has his big canvas installed on the side of his van) and 3) Stefan Baumann (also does beautiful Plein Air paintings in the National Parks). By the way, love your online course, you’re a great teacher and I’m enjoying the process. .
Love Michael Chamberlain and Ian Roberts! They really help teach good information that is basic and is valuable. Thank you for all your help and lessons also! I like also Sandi Hester and Turner Vinson.
Dianne Mize from In the Studio Art Instruction. Her quick tips are a huge help. Two of her quick tips that helped me a lot and got me out of a huge block are gradation and value relationships. The quick tips are simple so they keep me from comparing it to my work and feeling defeated lol.
I've learned a lot from Malcolm Dewey. Short lessons with demonstrations. I also like Michael Knight and Jon Bradham for plein air, which I hope to do eventually. EDIT: That's Michael KING. Sorry 😳
The only Michael Knight I found (besides the TV character in “Knight Rider” ) seems to be a Michael Jackson tribute artist singer. Can you offer a different channel name for him?
Wholeheartedly agree on Ian Roberts. I’ve learned a lot watching his weekly videos. I’ve also started watching Przewodek Fine Art recently. She’s an amazing artist who paints in a loose style and has an interesting process for her instructional videos. Like Roberts and you, she puts a lot of emphasis on big shapes, edges and color harmony. Keep up the great work!
2nd comment. How could I have forgotten Christian Jequel ! A pastel knife master at creating depth. A wood table serves as his palette where unused leftover paint is left to dry and serves later to create texture in his paintings - each placement by color spectrum and when he does another painting he simply applies fresh new paint on The table and when he needs more texture he scrapes the dry paint layers and applies it on his painting to create texture. Simply amazing !
On a more modest scale, using the dried single edge razor blade scrapings from a tempered glass palette (sorted by colors) kept in closable containers is a rewarding and frugal habit.
Richard Musgrave Evans, an Aussie painter, I watch his videos to relax before painting. He primarily uses large pallette knives, and completes enormous plein air paintings quickly by driving out the need for obsessive detail
You might like the channel Paint with Dustan. Another Ozie artist, I think out of Brisbane, he paints predominantly with pallet knives….he’s very good…. there’s no vocal it’s just music Super relaxing but also intriguing because you don’t really know until the very end when he’s actually painting.
For people with an interest in portrait painting, I believe Ben Lustenhouwer is a great artist and teacher. Thanks for the info. I will definitely check these channels out.
Michael James Smith is a 4th generation landscape painter in England. He has a method for producing incredibly realistic landscape paintings. For watercolor, James Gurney is my favorite.
Thanks so much for this video! I've avoided oils since trying them once at school - I stuck with watercolour and acrylics instead. Now I'm learning & can't get enough of your channel - great to have more artists to feed my new passion!
Thank you. It says a lot about you and your confidence to share other channels. I always learn from you and enjoy your style. I also enjoy and learn from Samuel Earp.

Agree with Ian Roberts, he is the best teacher on youtube imo. Stuart Davies is great, very well explained, laid back, unassuming and funny; love his channel. Yupari is also good particularly for beginners, lately he did very good portraits. Vladimir Volegov is one of the best painters on TH-cam but doesn’t do tutorials. Mesmerising to watch him paint though.
Thanks everyone who commented more artists on TH-cam. I'm truly grateful to paint coach and you all. So many inspiring teachers ♥️😍to follow and learn from
Thanks very much, I have been watching your videos for some time, last couple years. two of 3 of your picks I have watched several times. Marc is a new painter for me and is very interesting! I have also learned from Mark Carder, Draw Mix Paint and James Gurney. I recommend them both. I appreciate your channel because I struggle to get my ass in gear to paint more in between work. Thank you for unselfishly letting us know about other TH-camrs.
Thank you for YOUR videos, Chris. You offer a lot of valuable information and I appreciate it tremendously. There are two other painters who I follow besides Andrew Tischler and Carla Grace, amongst quite a few others, and that is Eric Yi Lin (he is watercolour artist though) and Johannes Vloothuis who paints both oil and watercolour. I also found that some of the painters I follow's work itself isn't really what I would consider good, necessarily (I'm honestly not being rude or negative, I promise) but the information they offer is outstanding. Since we all have our own way of doing things (not our style but our actions), sometimes taking the lesson and applying can be invaluable. You are correct that Andrew Tischler isn't for beginners, and Carla Grace probably isn't either but, as you watch their videos, they drop pearls of information which I have found valuable.
Nice video, I always enjoy and learn from you. Someone for you to check out is Turner Vinson. This guy paints with a boldness and directness that is awesome to watch. He made me pick up painting again after 20 years of not doing so!
James Gurney. Cesar Santos. Chamberlain is infantile compared to even these two. Gregory Manchess has like three videos that beat Chamberlains whole catalog.

Amazing, I was thinking, “I’m going to recommend Chelsea Lang…” then of course she was next on your list. I agree she is really fascinating to watch and generous with her explanations and art advice. Have to agree with others who have recommended Andrew Tischler, he is a great artist and teacher as well.

Lena Rivo works in gouache as well. Easy watching. Uses a "spreading oil drop" process in gouache or acrylic though, because it dries fast and it gives clean fresh results. Worth following. Has some helpful PDFs.

Hey Chris, great video, great job presenting and, as always, thank you for sharing. I do the same thing because I also love to watch other painters do their thing (especially ones that have years of knowledge and freely share it). I absolutely love Ian Roberts too because he approaches art philosophically as well as aesthetically--very classical in nature indeed. Another artist on TH-cam who is amazing that I strongly suggest you look into is Anna Rose Bain; she leaves me speechless. Again, thank you Chris!
Yes Ian Roberts wonderful instructor, along his lines of teaching is also Draw mix paint. On a different style also Alpay Efe, Danielle Trudeau, and of course your work. 👌
Great video.. if only that was the norm to recommend other teachers as well.. I commend you for that! As a... let's say mediocre painter, I learned a lot of much needed courage to be more loose, from Stuart Davies' approach =)
I watch Michael Chamberlain, Ian Roberts, Karen Margulis and Marla Bagetti who are all, to my mind, excellent artists and very generous with their time and knowledge. I’ve learnt so much from all of them. We don’t seem to have many artists of that quality sharing their work in the UK that I’ve heard of. Such a pity.
I also love Andrew Tischler but I’m new to your channel and loving it as well. I’ve also purchased your course as I’m new to oils. 🙂 Two others I like are Casser Santos and Wim Bals- both so talented!
Hi, Chris! I really think it is cool that you give shout outs to other Artists that teach on TH-cam! One of the absolute best is Renso Art. Renso Castaneda lives in Lima, Peru...he is an alla prima master.
Great info thanks Chris. I like Haidee Jo Summers. I am trying to improve my painting and Haidee is great to follow (generally more in her books than on youtube). Her pictures are very alive.
Hi Thanks for the video Chris enjoying you talks . I am in New Zealand and I highly recommend Andrew Tischler who is also here in New Zealand . He is very good from a technical point of view makes lot of his own gear and also a real expert on color issues a dedicated artist and his videos are really help full .
Painters I follow, in no particular order. Paint Coach - Fantastic content and an excellent loose style. Andrew Tischler - Excellent realism and a tight polished look. James Gurney - Nice plein air using acrylics and guache Gagnon Studio - Does excellent clouds Chuck Black Art - Wonderful landscapes Alpay Efe - Wonderful portraits with inspiring color use Michael James Smith - Excellent realism Mural Joe - Excellent observations of nature UVN Art - Not really tutorials but it's nice watching paintings come together Richard Musgrave-Evans - Those palate knives! Freeman White - Plein air Ian Roberts - Already mentioned
Thanks, Chris. I already subscribe to the first 3 you mention - and think your comments regarding them are spot on. I'll have to have a look at Chelsea Lang. Another painter worth looking at on TH-cam is Kyle Martin. He's a Wisconsin artist with an interesting sense of value and color.

I work in an artist materials shop, and I often recommend James Gurney and Lena Rivo to beginners/artists who want to learn more about gouache and/or plein air painting 🤩
I have picked up such good tips from you - thank you !
Loved this video, thanks for sharing your inspirations!
Great video again! Looking forward to checking some of these out too
Yes Ian Roberts wonderful instructor, along his lines of teaching is also Draw mix paint. On a different style also Alpay Efe, Danielle Trudeau, and of course your work. 👌
Lindsey Kustusch and her partner are amazing and Kyle Ma, all three so young and so talented and so inspirational!
Great video.. if only that was the norm to recommend other teachers as well.. I commend you for that!
As a... let's say mediocre painter, I learned a lot of much needed courage to be more loose, from Stuart Davies' approach =)
Also Jessica Henry -- -great instruction also
I watch Michael Chamberlain, Ian Roberts, Karen Margulis and Marla Bagetti who are all, to my mind, excellent artists and very generous with their time and knowledge.

Tischlers landscape and seascape videos are great
I love your videos Chris 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜!! I also watch Michael Chamberlin, Richard musgrave Evans and Jessica Henry. Thanks for all your hard work!
Hi Thanks for the video Chris enjoying you talks . I am in New Zealand and I highly recommend Andrew Tischler who is also here in New Zealand . He is very good from a technical point of view makes lot of his own gear and also a real expert on color issues a dedicated artist and his videos are really help full .
and Ian Roberts and his 2 books are really outstanding. When will you publish a book
Thank you this was useful.
Painters I follow, in no particular order.
Paint Coach - Fantastic content and an excellent loose style.
Andrew Tischler - Excellent realism and a tight polished look.
James Gurney - Nice plein air using acrylics and guache
Gagnon Studio - Does excellent clouds
Chuck Black Art - Wonderful landscapes
Alpay Efe - Wonderful portraits with inspiring color use
Michael James Smith - Excellent realism
Mural Joe - Excellent observations of nature
UVN Art - Not really tutorials but it's nice watching paintings come together
Richard Musgrave-Evans - Those palate knives!
Freeman White - Plein air
Ian Roberts - Already mentioned
Thanks, Chris. I already subscribe to the first 3 you mention - and think your comments regarding them are spot on. I'll have to have a look at Chelsea Lang. Another painter worth looking at on TH-cam is Kyle Martin. He's a Wisconsin artist with an interesting sense of value and color.
Thanks for sharing man. Very helpful
Michael Smith is a fantastic realistic painter.
