The move sets are based on HEMA Historical European Maritial Arts. Which were recorded in fencing treatises and manuals. It is a martial art you can practice. There is lots of content on TH-cam. What that means in terms of the HEMA mode is that you are using training swords and still hitting eachother but without the murder and or ambulance ride. Swordfighting but without the risk of death, so you still need to land a good hit to earn the point.

Black Fencer and Red Dragon are the companies that make the gear for HEMA (Historical Europen Martial Arts). this game is a way to "practice Hema" in a safe distance kinda way. Its a really fun activity where you fight another person with a blunt metal sword, usually both fencers use the same type of sword (two handed, one handed, rapier, sabre, etc)

I've been enjoying the Hellish Quart videos from Toonz & Delirious b/c I grew up with the collaboration of Toonz & Delirious & this game is both amazing & intense. Also, the beginning of this video was so far the best start to a video from this series haha.
Just so you know HEMA mean “Historical European martial arts” and people practice with similar gear and blunt steel swords to practice techniques from history.

I love all the different styles of fencing in this, including wooden sparing swords and HEMA blunt swords is truly incredible. Whoever made this clearly knew there stuff when it came to fencing and sword play. Really fun stuff.

For those who don't know, Historical European martial arts (Hema) are martial arts of European origin, particularly using arts formerly practised, but having since died out or evolved into very different forms.

Balck fencer etc are all HEMA companies. All of that gear is real. It is gear for sparring to get hit with steel or synthetic swords as shown steel is(blunt of course the synthetics blades are made of nylon, hence they still hurt a bit to be hit by), and still be safe.
Ok toonz with the Ichigo drip makes him look like a badass.
I love the realism of this game! Most sword fights are this short and when people get stabbed their muscles retract rather than continuing the fight.

HEMA is historical european martial arts. there is a rule in hema known as insufficient contact meaning if it wouldn't have made a wound with a sharp sword it doesn't count as a hit. in fencing any little touch or poke counts as a hit.
Wish they would remake time killers. Only ever played it in arcades in the 90s. Every time I see a fighting game like this I think of it.
