OMG! I never knew how to play this game back in school. I always used to just click and pray. 🤣 So glad that I chose to Google how to play it and found your video. Subscribing now!
Thank you so much, my whole life i kept comming across this game, and when i was a kid i tryed it many times but never understood it, amd it drove me crazy, because even though i didnt speak english, i would plqy many other games without understanding the directions, just by trial and error, but this one i just could never figure out, i just now came actoss an ad about it and i remembered, and here i am trying to finally finally figure it out, even though i probablly will not play it, but i can rest in peace now 😂😂😂😂 thanks for taking the time to explain it!
I think Windows 3.1 was the first time I've seen Minesweeper in any version. Although, Windows 3.0 might have had a Minesweeper game as part of a small games package. That was the custom install, although you would get everything if you did a full install.
A number tells you how many mines that surround that number; for example, if you get the number 1, then there will be one mine somewhere around that number, and if you get the number 8, then that number will be completely surrounded by mines. You can use this information to figure out which squares that you can click on. Say for example that you have the number 1 on a square, and that square is surrounded by one unopened square, as well as seven empty squares; since you have the number 1 on the square, you know that there must be a mine somewhere around that square, and since seven of those squares are already revealed to be empty (in other words, they have neither numbers nor mines), then there must be a mine in the square that you haven't opened yet, so you need to avoid that square. You can identify the mines that you know contain mines by right-clicking on them; this will place flags on those squares, so that you know that you need to avoid them. Note that you might sometimes need to guess which squares that you can open, although you should be able to identify the squares that contain mines most of the time.
I remember having this explained to me and i still couldnt get my head around it im not sure what they must have told me that was so confusing because this made sense ahahha
A little fun fact: It actually came with instruction. Minesweeper has a small tab that says help (I think. It could be about. Idk), that tell you how to play. I know this because I remember reading instruction on it.
As a minesweeper pro player, I think this should be corrected 0:08 “left click randomly” No, left click at corners. They have the highest chance of being blank and open up big space
as triples games said, that strategy is optional, however, i feel like they should have mentioned that sometimes there are patterns that are harder than just checking a number, and sometimes you are forced to guess
if you flag a mine incorrectly, and you touch on a number, that is supposed to free all the squares that are not flagged, if the adjacent flags are the same amount as the number you click on, and you flagged the mines incorrectly (i.e. you flagged a square that doesnt have a mine), then it will free squares that have a mine instead, making you lose the game. to avoid this, pay more atention when you flag mines, or don't chord (aka click on a number) if you're not sure.
If there is a number, there is a mine. The question is where is the mine. If the number is 1 and there is only 1 space left around it, that is a guarantee mine.

i know the game well, and ya that is the very basics of the game, but there is so many tricks to finding bombs that can be taught to make the game easier and i'm just not seeing them yet lmao
sometimes I hate this game, Sure you need some smart thinking on where the mines are but I hate the fact it is and RNG game, especially when theres a 2x2 at a corner and 2 mines left, that pisses me off always,
The numbers tell you how many mines that surround those numbers; for example, the number "1" means that there is exactly one mine somewhere around that number (above, below, left, right, upper-left, upper-right, lower-left, or lower-right), and so on. This means that if you get the number "8" (very rare), then that tile is completely surrounded by mines. You can also see opened grey tiles in a lot of places in this video, and those tiles have no mines at all around them, so they technically represent the number "0". Another example would be if you have the number "2", and you already have two mines around that number; this means that all other tiles are safe to open, since you already have the two mines revealed.
@@Peter_1986 this still makes 0 sense like what if there’s 4 boxes and a number two how am i meant to know which boxes in the radius of 2 have 2 mines in
@@aimdox Sometimes you will not have enough information for one particular square, and in those situations you will have to look around on other parts of the field, and try to deduce which squares that should have mines in them. You might sometimes have to use slightly more complex tricks, such as for example asking yourself what would happen IF a square had a mine in it; this could sometimes give you situations where you notice that a square that can only have one mine around it is forced by your assumption to have two mines around it, and this then means that your assumption was incorrect, and similar types of situations like that. This is similar to "proof by contradiction" in math. Note that it is _only_ the squares _closest_ to a number that are relevant for that number, in other words that squares immediately to the left, right, above, below and to the closest diagonals, which "touch" the number, so to speak.
I always just clicked on everything not knowing what to do. I had a friend in high school who played this like a pro. She was great at it.

Are you saying that after this video, you actually knew how to play? Because it only made me more confused. 🥲

i won once by randomly clicking
Same , i thought the number has no function and just click it randomly...😅
POV: You just randomly clicked on squares, making up your own strategy for a game you don't know how to play.
Hahaha
That's literally the civilization franchise
I remember playing this on my grandmas computer. Didn’t know what I was doing until my cousin showed me what to do. Good childhood memorie
Wow after 10+ years i know how to play minesweeper!
Thanks for teaching me how to play. It’s very fun and exciting because you can’t make 1 mistake.
clear & concise, explains (almost) everything you need, doesn't waste time
no nf tho, or 3bv, or 3bv/s
9/10 overall

I feel so proud knowing I know how one game works than most people here

bruh I got so hyped up when winning my first game of minesweeper on easy mode lol
I never understood this game until now. I thought the numbers were the "possibilities" of running into a mine on the left right top or bottom of it
I learned how to play this myself in high school because I got bored in English class. Great way to pass time whilst engaging your brain!

I didn't even know you can flag the squares 😂

You forgot about the question marks! I used to play minesweeper all the time when I was younger and had a computer.
How do you put a question mark on there? I also used to play this a lot, but didn't know what I was supposed to do to win.
I just figured out how to play this game this morning all by myself 😂

I had no idea you could click on numbers next to flagged mines to open the rest of their neighboring tiles. Good to know!

0:08 “left click randomly”
No, left click at corners. They have the highest chance of being blank and open up big space
That would fall into strategy, not a rule. But good to know
as triples games said, that strategy is optional, however, i feel like they should have mentioned that sometimes there are patterns that are harder than just checking a number, and sometimes you are forced to guess
These all windows 7 games are freaking gem.
Why do the mines sometimes explode if i touch a number?
Do you wacht untill the end
if you flag a mine incorrectly, and you touch on a number, that is supposed to free all the squares that are not flagged, if the adjacent flags are the same amount as the number you click on, and you flagged the mines incorrectly (i.e. you flagged a square that doesnt have a mine), then it will free squares that have a mine instead, making you lose the game. to avoid this, pay more atention when you flag mines, or don't chord (aka click on a number) if you're not sure.

how is it possible that i lose the game because there is a 1 and there is two bombs adjacent to it
