Thanks to this video, I was able to flash my Mamba F405 MK2 for the first time (before even installing it on a frame). Your video probably saved me several hours of frustration and failure. Went from 3.5.7 to 4.2.10, but since I've never used Betaflight before, the difference between those version is not that big of a deal. My last FC was a HobbyKing KK2.0, so even Betaflight 3.5.7 would have been a HUGE upgrade.
I had written out a big 'help' comment about Dshot beeper not working on my toothpick build, then I updated ESCs from 16.6 to 16.7 and it works! Good job I went through a whole checklist of making sure everything was up to date before asking a stupid question :)
Even though I have a few of my kwads flashed to 4.1 with rpm filters enabled I still learned something today. The osd fonts, thanks for that bit. Certainly helped me out. 👍💖🤓
Just finished a new toothpick/twig build at the weekend and added BF4.1 to it. Other than changing Dynamic notch filter to high (1103 motors, small micro) and FF transition to 0.15 all PIDs and filters were left default. Fly's great, now I have the task of updating the rest of my quad's from 3.3 to 4.1. Thanks for these video's JB if it wasn't for them I'd still be on 3.3 👴

Noobie: Afraid of messing up the BF config Avg Pilot: flashes without full chip erase and finishes config. Master: flashes quad with full chip erase, sets everything up in less than 5 mins, puts props on the right way, and manages to get a pack before dinner.

it was my cable that didnt work with my latest fc, i tried every usb i had but one, one short one and boom it works....try diff cables if it doesnt go into dfu as well
YES! You did mention "Make sure your props are off". Anytime you're working on the bench, take them off!!!! Props are off, Receiver working, I need to verify motors are correct, modes tab needs re-programmed with the switches on my radio. Yes, go fly your quad!
I bears mentioning that I recently discovered that as long as I had my R-XSR Rx connected to my CL Racing F4 board, it would not go into DFU mode. Even the Immersion RC Driver Fixer was no help because I was going down the wrong troubleshooting path. This was bit inconvenient because flashing after a quad is assembled should be something we should be able to do. I don't think entering 'bl' in CLI worked either. I don't remember trying it. However, I had to rip apart my frame to get to the Rx to disconnect the plug (I don't have tiny fingers either) and after that, flashing went off with no problems. I learned about this on a 2-year old RC Groups thread. Something about the Rx stil getting power passed through when connected to USB. I don't think anyone on YT mentions it.

i am just getting into this hobby and if it wasnt for you i would be absolutely lost i just purchased a hx100se and flashed it from 3.5.1 to 4.1 because i would barely tap the wall and then it would just fly into the ceiling the second i armed it and would have to change the prop even though it looked fine to my amazement my flight times went from 2.5 to 3.5 minutes just with re flashing it amazing
Had issue getting into BL mode on Mac. Inputting BL in CLi would act like it was going into bootloader, and trying to flash from the firmware flasher with the reboot into bootloader. Neither option would work for me. I got "unable to open serial port" or some nonsense. But the holding the button on the FC while plugging in did the trick. Was able to flash BF after that. Just thought I would share.

how do you transfer firmware from one board to another one? Both being the same board and same manufacturer? Having issues with the upgrade in firmware in one of my boards and want to restore it. It was done before I watched this video. Live in learn. Thank you Mr. Bardwell..... You rock!
Hi , I followed this and worked up until I copied the clip dump back in then after I hit save I can no longer connect , very lost now as to what to do . Any help would be appreciated.
I had a similar problem, when I set my fc to bootloader mode, betaflight was not able to find it anymore. However it was shown as DFU in my Devicemanager. My problem was, that I used the browser Version of Betaflight. When I used the downloadable version, betaflight found the fc in bootloader mode and I was able to flash.
Hi, thanks for doing this tutorial but I do have a question. I believe I am using the same FC and ESC as your Nazgul5 (Succex-e F4 stack) but when I clicked on the drop down for target, there is no BETAFLIGHTF4, but instead there is BETAFLIGHTF4 (FPVM) & BETAFLIGHTF4 (Legacy). While in betaflight I messed up my settings maybe port settings, I forget what I did. Now my drone wont connect anymore. It says connected successfully immediately followed by successfully disconnected. My other drone connect fine. Now my drone only make 1 beep when I turn it on and all solid lights
I ran into it. I have a DYS F4 Pro V2, and in the profile log that I saved it says DYS4, in betaflight the only options are DYST and Legacy. I went with DYST. Hope it works :)
First thanks for the great video's, second I have a tinyhawk freestyle and recently upgrade to betaflight 4.1 and now my quad doesn't fly at all.. it literally just flips over as soon as i apply throttle... not sure what I did wrong and I have yet to really search online for some answers. Josh I’m using a ufivy draco hd , I’m using 4.0.2 configurator there’s a 4.0.3 but it won’t let me download to chrome , says “crx_required_proof_missing” but when I plug my uvify into laptop the uvify configurator says “ this firmware version is not supported. hello Joshua, i enjoyed watching this. I have a question. If the retailer provided me with a file, in this case the file is called "betaflight_4.3.1_CRAZYBEEF4SX1280_ICM42688P_ELRS_V3.hex" and also with a cli dump file, in this case called "Mobula8 ELRS 3.0 dump all for42688.txt". Do I then match the target as close to as possible with the first file name and do I then instead of saving and re loading the diff all just upload from the .txt file into the CLI?

Josh Betaflight works good on my computer on com3 port but when I type bl on Cli it will not go into dfu mode.. I run the impulse driver fixer but it says cannot connect to com3.. Or not impulserc not allowed to access com3??
hello Joshua, i have a question when testing my motors in motors tab..Its the Stingy build with all new parts, so when i connect battery to quad and spin up motors one motor hsa 16% error and another has 0.20 % error. Would this be a sign of a bad esc? i was having trouble flashing the 4 in 1 but finally got it to flash by swapping signal wires...thank you
Something surely isn't right and you should not fly with error% over 1%. Check the signal wire to the bad ESC first. Swap the signal wire with another ESC and see if the "bad" condition moves.
Problem: since I did the firmware upgrade on the fc my receiver has stopped communicating with fc. It connects fine with transmitter. But has now lost connection with f405 & rxsr but less than a month old. Any suggestions?
Thought for a new vid... How to get our personal VTX tables into the Taranis to use with Lua Scripts? I have powers (mw) showing in Lua screen that aren't available with my VTX, so how do I know I'm truly getting the power I set via LUA? Thanks for all you do Joshua!
Yes, just updated Lua scripts to 1.4.1 and Taranis X7 to 2.3.1. When I run Lua I get the default settings for Tramp which is 5 power levels whereas I only have 3 (0, 25, 600) and is configured that way in BF 4.1.0. I can adjust power, band and channel via the Lua scripts however, power levels aren't accurate as set in BF.
Hi Josh fantastic video however i have just flashed a Matek F405 with betaflight 4.1 using target MatekF405 as on the leaflet enclosed with it and version info such as in CLI on video however roll left is now pitch forwards and the animation on beta flight now seem 90 degrees out. Obviously i can change this in configuration but is this a common issue? Why does it happen (Is it me? something i did wrong?) Thanks.

Can I restore a cli dump from BF 3.5.7 onto a newer version of betaflight? I don't know how to pid tune, so I'm hoping the factory pids from the old version will work...
Is bootloader mode on com1 port? Because my flight controllers can only connect on com3.. I have tried holding the boot button but it will not connect??
Hi joshua, I would like to know if resource remapping has changed in 4.1. The reason why I am asking is because I tried to change my camera control to a motor pin and it wouldn't let me move my camera control. I have the matek f722 flight controller. In 4.0 I was able to remap it. And 4.1 it won't let me. I was able to free up the motor resource. But I cannot reassign the camera control to that resource. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried to Flash my Inductrix Pro BLH8616. Thankfully i used the cli command diff all; i found that my target was NAZE which i could not find. and as a Mac user, i was unable to get my board into dfu using the bl command. reason, because naze last support is 3.2 looks like im not going to update or fly it. it'll stay on the wall. appreciate this video.

i have a problem with betaflight configurator. i install 10.7.0 when i came out and had no problems but now when i click on firmware flasher it just comes up with WAITING DATA i have tried clicking on firmware update and the same thing.my quad goes into dfu mode but still goes to white screen with waiting data. i know you can click on FIRMWARE FLASHER with out quad connected and still get flight controllers firmware page displayed. i tried configurators from 10.4.0and it worked ok but anything after that i have the problems. i tried inav and it works. i have reinstalled configurator and drivers. turned off anti virus and firewall. tried another internet connection. but still no change. is github having problems with their configurators.

Hi JB, I had a good flying 3" quad(F428 HGLRC stack) before BF 4.1. When I flashed it and I went LOS on BF defaults and my quad shot to the moon. Don't know if this happens every time I arm. Have any suggestions on PID's to fix this?
OK, I updated my iFlight Nazgul5 from 4.0.4 to 4.11. I did a manual setup insetesd of using the "safe" diff all method. All seemed to go well and everything is working as expected with one exception. After going above 50% on the throttle it goes to 100% and stays there until I disarm. Also the motors are getting way hot way fast. What have I done wrong? Any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance for any info.
Hi Joshua, I just upgrate betaflight firmware on my geprc cinequeen 4k (target not legendary) to 4.1.1 with the help of your videos. After binding my quad's frsky r-xsr receiver to jumper t16 pro I realized that the receiver tab on betaflight configurator 10.6.0 is not responding. All the lights on receiver and the telemetry on the jumper t16 indicate binding was perfect. Also, port settings are as described in the receiver"s manual. What do you think about the problem.. Target issue? or the receiver is not compatible with the betaflight 4.1.1 ?

I don't get the part where you put in the cleaned out cli dump of an earlier video of yours. I thought a config is tailored to a specific quad and likings of the pilot. Why does sharing this work? Am I supposed to edit the parameters?

It did but then I followed the vid and upgraded the new version 4.1 and something happened./ Now I cannot get any connection between my board and betaflight. i have another mob 7 and that baord is fine and connects and goes into DFU. 3.3 and 3.2 we're good firmwares... I ran them for almost a year before going to 4.0 👍

When i did this i lost all my stick inputs. i have the green bind light but quad isnt responding to anything. Please help if anyone have a solution .

Chyna Mane yup! First time I was trying to connect, I had to go through 5 cables until I found one that worked!!
2yr after buying my quad 6 usb`s later i realised it was a power only usb
Never flashed a stack in my life but I full chip erased without saving and this helped me fix everything
Betaflight 4.1 was great for my quad, very stable and precise, but I noticed a slightly larger battery consumption ... Many thanks Joshua!!!

Check your cable newbs! Seriously listen to this man he has done this a few million times, and at least 5 videos for different versions

I have a problem so I was flashing my drone on accident and I was reading what it will do to my drone so i unplugged it now it dosnt recognize PLEASE HELP WHAT DO I DO?
I need help. Betaflight doesn't have omnibus but they have omnibusf4 and some other ones. And when I try to use the f4 one it's gives an error
After the driver fixer I go and click on the bootloader but mine says "Failed to close serial port" and no DFU.

hello Joshua, i enjoyed watching this. I have a question. If the retailer provided me with a file, in this case the file is called "betaflight_4.3.1_CRAZYBEEF4SX1280_ICM42688P_ELRS_V3.hex" and also with a cli dump file, in this case called "Mobula8 ELRS 3.0 dump all for42688.txt". Do I then match the target as close to as possible with the first file name and do I then instead of saving and re loading the diff all just upload from the .txt file into the CLI?

Josh Betaflight works good on my computer on com3 port but when I type bl on Cli it will not go into dfu mode.. I run the impulse driver fixer but it says cannot connect to com3.. Or not impulserc not allowed to access com3??
hello Joshua, i have a question when testing my motors in motors tab..Its the Stingy build with all new parts, so when i connect battery to quad and spin up motors one motor hsa 16% error and another has 0.20 % error. Would this be a sign of a bad esc? i was having trouble flashing the 4 in 1 but finally got it to flash by swapping signal wires...thank you
Something surely isn't right and you should not fly with error% over 1%. Check the signal wire to the bad ESC first. Swap the signal wire with another ESC and see if the "bad" condition moves.

I’m sorry I tested again and error moved to different motor after swapping signal. Bad esc correct?
Problem: since I did the firmware upgrade on the fc my receiver has stopped communicating with fc. It connects fine with transmitter. But has now lost connection with f405 & rxsr but less than a month old.
Any suggestions?

I think that the latest Betaflight lua script should read the power levels from vtxtable. Are you using lua script version 1.4 or newer?
Yes, just updated Lua scripts to 1.4.1 and Taranis X7 to 2.3.1. When I run Lua I get the default settings for Tramp which is 5 power levels whereas I only have 3 (0, 25, 600) and is configured that way in BF 4.1.0. I can adjust power, band and channel via the Lua scripts however, power levels aren't accurate as set in BF.

Hi Josh fantastic video however i have just flashed a Matek F405 with betaflight 4.1 using target MatekF405 as on the leaflet enclosed with it and version info such as in CLI on video however roll left is now pitch forwards and the animation on beta flight now seem 90 degrees out. Obviously i can change this in configuration but is this a common issue? Why does it happen (Is it me? something i did wrong?) Thanks.

Hi joshua, I would like to know if resource remapping has changed in 4.1. The reason why I am asking is because I tried to change my camera control to a motor pin and it wouldn't let me move my camera control. I have the matek f722 flight controller. In 4.0 I was able to remap it. And 4.1 it won't let me. I was able to free up the motor resource. But I cannot reassign the camera control to that resource. Any help would be greatly appreciated. hi i flashed the firmware to my GOKUF722 Flight controller on my Mr Croc setup and now I the dji air unit doesn't get power. Any idea why that is? I'm afraid I have messed up the quad
It's hard to imagine how flashing firmware could cause the air unit not to power up. Typically they are powered directly from the regulator.
I tried to Flash my Inductrix Pro BLH8616. Thankfully i used the cli command diff all; i found that my target was NAZE which i could not find. and as a Mac user, i was unable to get my board into dfu using the bl command. reason, because naze last support is 3.2 looks like im not going to update or fly it. it'll stay on the wall. appreciate this video.
My firmware update (using a smartphone) failed for an unknown reason and now Betaflight isn't seeing my JHEF7DUAL board. I'm stuck on "Searching for flight controller" 3:59 :/
Basically, you probably need to fix it by re-flashing it in DFU mode on a PC. If there is a way to restore it via the flasher app, I don't know.

i have a problem with betaflight configurator. i install 10.7.0 when i came out and had no problems but now when i click on firmware flasher it just comes up with WAITING DATA i have tried clicking on firmware update and the same thing.my quad goes into dfu mode but still goes to white screen with waiting data. i know you can click on FIRMWARE FLASHER with out quad connected and still get flight controllers firmware page displayed. i tried configurators from 10.4.0and it worked ok but anything after that i have the problems. i tried inav and it works. i have reinstalled configurator and drivers. turned off anti virus and firewall. tried another internet connection. but still no change. is github having problems with their configurators.

Hi JB, I had a good flying 3" quad(F428 HGLRC stack) before BF 4.1. When I flashed it and I went LOS on BF defaults and my quad shot to the moon. Don't know if this happens every time I arm. Have any suggestions on PID's to fix this?
OK, I updated my iFlight Nazgul5 from 4.0.4 to 4.11. I did a manual setup insetesd of using the "safe" diff all method. All seemed to go well and everything is working as expected with one exception. After going above 50% on the throttle it goes to 100% and stays there until I disarm. Also the motors are getting way hot way fast. What have I done wrong? Any ideas on a fix? Thanks in advance for any info.

Hi Joshua, I just upgrate betaflight firmware on my geprc cinequeen 4k (target not legendary) to 4.1.1 with the help of your videos. After binding my quad's frsky r-xsr receiver to jumper t16 pro I realized that the receiver tab on betaflight configurator 10.6.0 is not responding. All the lights on receiver and the telemetry on the jumper t16 indicate binding was perfect. Also, port settings are as described in the receiver"s manual. What do you think about the problem.. Target issue? or the receiver is not compatible with the betaflight 4.1.1 ?
Hello JB and thanks for the step by step video. I have a cidora and i've done everything you say to update to 4.1. I flashed the firmware and now as i'm connecting it says next to "Update firmware" No dataflash chip found and as i'm checking the 3d model doesn't move at all.
No dataflash chip can be ignored. Many FC don't have one. It has nothing to do with flashing. It has to do with blackbox logging.

I'm on a Mac and I don't see DFU or whatever... it just disconnects and all the lights on the FC go red
I don't get the part where you put in the cleaned out cli dump of an earlier video of yours. I thought a config is tailored to a specific quad and likings of the pilot. Why does sharing this work? Am I supposed to edit the parameters?
There are a few parameters that you must edit, which I have noted in comments in the config dump.

Support for F3 targets was dropped in 4.0 I believe. Definitely not 4.1.

No. The OSD is not used in that FC.

Hi there, I cannot get my new crazy bee f4DX board to get into DFU mode. The board won't even see the software. It did but then I followed the vid and upgraded the new version 4.1 and something happened./ Now I cannot get any connection between my board and betaflight. i have another mob 7 and that baord is fine and connects and goes into DFU.
