That torque is gonna make Jack shuffle down the track nice!! Good work you guys, and all that were involved in this build. Cant wait to see test and tune!!!
This is great. Now please, please, please do a dyno of it in the truck. Really wanna see the actual drivetrain loss. Not too many people have engine hp numbers and at the tire hp numbers. Awesome results I'm sure papatron is stoked. Congrats great job.
I'm not sure if we'll put it on a chassis dyno. For the most part we put the engine on the dyno to make sure it was good, it wasn't gonna come apart, it was tuned as close as we could get it, etc. BUT! I agree it would be cool to see exactly how much drivetrain loss there is. I won't say it'll never happen though lol
I had a 468 10.5 .1 049 cut for bigger valves blenden behind them unshroded in a 3445 pd bu it run 6.89 to 6.99 1/8 mile by the time chart 480 hp in street trim i put a 125 shot on it it run 6.50 by tim chart it made 619 hp and it left doing the g body shuffle ford 9 inch 35 spline moser rear with 4.56 gear with a small soild in it max lift 589 106 lobe center line cause of the heads at 6 on shift at 6800 shift it run 6.89 in 8 it was fun but sold it to do a 10.5 vega if i ever find one for the street there only one thang better than a fat head it a big butt girl that giggles
If that crank isn't a forged unit. I'm waiting on it to scatter with a 250 shot or whatever you're running. Oem Bbc cranks are too soft for much over 550 safe from my personal experience. But I hope for the best of it.
if you going to do any suspension work and if you still got stock leaf springs in the back get Caltracs it will make that truck hook good and some adjustable shocks you don't need a expensive 4 link set up or that just caltracs with good shocks and in the front some good adjustable shocks you may need more work in the front to get the front end travel up but should work good with some tuning. My good friend races no prep and that is what he runs and that thing hooks and books. Are you running slicks or radials?
Pulled my 454 out of a 87' RV with 20k miles for $900. I already had headers, intake, carb, distributor but left everything else stock and use it in my 82' c30 as a tow pig 10,000lbs 55mph uphill no problem. Nice to see what bottom end can do!
I am going to say 448hp at 4200rpm and 516tq at 3900rpm I was off but awesome when ever a build beats your expectations it's a good day! GOOD JOB GUYS NOW LETS HEAR THIS BIG BLOCK IN JACK BLACK OPEN HEADERS ON SPRAY!!!!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
we are keeping the rpm down because of the factory crank but were going to go full send on the direct port fogger system ! she runs good love your content !
I'd like to see some runs at the track and the time slips with the Engine as you tested it on the Dyno. Sounds Good. My guess, rough estimate was 580 horses with the parts you said you used. So you got pretty darn close👍
No, these mods kill bottom end- but that just costs MPG as you run a stall converter to keep the engine reving where it needs to be to make torque. But Cruising with, say, 480 foot pounds at below 2k vs a tad over 500 at 3500k= gas pig. Definitely a build you do if the track is your end goal or putting it in a light pony car.
Curious how much porting and duration you have. Or how friendly that dyno is. Because the oval ports dont flow enough cfm to support those hp numbers. Torque is on par....but you dont have more hp then Torque in under 6000rpm.
Yeah, I agree. Those heads will make a peak somewhere in the 520-530ish range, but dynos always lie, because they are looking at "corrected" numbers, and those are usually 30-45hp above what you're actually getting, unless you are actually at sea level, in 68 degree weather, with 0 percent humidity! lol My 427 bbc with stock 781 heads (same as 049 heads) shows 554hp peak @ 6000 rpm, that's corrected numbers (68 degrees/0% hum./0ft sea level), but uncorrected numbers (92 degrees/60% hum./1089ft sea level) shows 504hp peak @ 6000 rpm. Big difference. I'm saying that's about what this engine is making in "real" hp numbers.
Crazy thing is I just watched the video after the 560 comment. I just watched a few minuets at first then stopped. thought it would be a couple of days till it would be on dyno. Good build.
No, you're actually very close. Dynos lie. People need to start looking at uncorrected numbers, and stop daydreaming on "corrected" numbers. Unless you live at or very near sea level, in 68 degree weather with 0% humidity, then the dyno is lying to you.
I figured 500/500 give 10 on either but that was impressive Also I believe that intake was a great choice they really bring nice power all the way around and it’s showing Being you got eagle rods and forged pistons even with that stock crank I would easily spin it at 72-7500 on motor But on nos probably no more then 6800 before shift Would really like to see him take it to the power starts to fall off but stop at 7500 if it didn’t just so you know it in and out But anyway great video Jack Black is by far my favorite glad to see you and your pops are doing good can’t wait to see Jack black scream down the track👍
Yeah, I was really wanting to run it out and see where the power fell off. But, Richard didn't seem super keen on it so I didn't push the matter. I figure we can run it out a few 100rpm each time and see how it feels. I'd bet it's real close to 600 at true peak hp but 🤷♂️
Brooooo I’m so excited! As much as I love LS stuff & SBC stuff, big cubic inch big block Chevys will always have a special place in my heart. Best of luck Papatron!
why were you worried about revving it more and possibly hurting motor when you are going to at some time run it with nitrous and possibly make 700hp,if it had not have peaked yet i would have revved it more to see how much it would make you just are leaving hp on the table on revving it to 6000
Because its a cast crank, not the factory steel forged one. And rpm is typically what kills them, at least according to everyone who has had one come apart. The old wives tale is you don't want to take them above 6500. The nitrous we can feather in with a progressive so it's gentle on parts
That torque is gonna make Jack shuffle down the track nice!! Good work you guys, and all that were involved in this build. Cant wait to see test and tune!!!
Nothing like a old school race Shop! JB is going to get moving with all them horsetourqes 👊

Thanks for the update friend. I will be watching for the test and tune.
big block sure sounds solid i had 550 hp in my mind
thats what i said
Alot depends on dyno set up, rpm per sec sweep can change numbers a lot, stock crank can handle 7000 rpm easy with good bolts
I just got my 454 back together, there is definitely no replacement for displacement jackblack should move pretty dang good down the track now!
Good ol American iron making Eagle's fly screaming freedom 👊🤙🤘

Damn, that thing sounds super smooth. Totally beyond stoked for you. Papatron guna go shake some fools down with his BWC..........😬 oops, I mean BBC.
That thing is gonna be solid low 12 on motor now, perfect street truck
Old Dick McEldowny he’s one of a kind man, right around the corner from my house! Hopefully I’ll see you guys out to Onondaga Dragway this year 🤞
He's a cool guy, very knowledgeable
I need that intake setup for my 33
I would say that's one nice little motor except its massive 😂 Cant wait to see JB making some passes with this thing!
Check pistol to valves, did shorten rods.
Did you rebalance the new crankshaft
Love it truck is gonna be moving. Does it have a solid roller cam I can’t for the life of me remember
Are y'all going to turbo it at some.pointnor just nitrous you could probably do 2 of the cheap gt45
Above 500! Thats bad a$$! Cant wait to see it at the track
Man Jack is gonna be a terror on the track!!! Might want to think about changing the rear gearing or it might grenade it on the track

I just got one out of a camper same year... Want to put it my blazer square only 70k it said on dash
Nice I've been curious about this, thanks for insight
That hi ram will make power up to 8 grand but having a bottom end to take that is a whole different game, awesome video man👍

Aren’t motorhome 454’s 2 bolt main motors? Can a person make these modes without losing the bottom end?
No, these mods kill bottom end- but that just costs MPG as you run a stall converter to keep the engine reving where it needs to be to make torque. But Cruising with, say, 480 foot pounds at below 2k vs a tad over 500 at 3500k= gas pig. Definitely a build you do if the track is your end goal or putting it in a light pony car.

It makes more hp than torque from 5300 on up. The heads have some gasket matching along with the intake, but thats it
Yeah, I agree. Those heads will make a peak somewhere in the 520-530ish range, but dynos always lie, because they are looking at "corrected" numbers, and those are usually 30-45hp above what you're actually getting, unless you are actually at sea level, in 68 degree weather, with 0 percent humidity! lol

Badass old man with his engine dyno dual exhaust garage

Now that is going to be bad ass
only revving it to 5000rpm , my stock bottom end 30 over 454 still bulls like hell out to 6500
I am excited for jack black :)
What timing was in it
35 degrees
Hell yea! JB is gonna boogie
Wow destroyed my 512 guess. Great 👍
congrats on the dyno results. Great affordable combo. What is the approx. compression?

@@SniderTron3000 Darn, was hoping I could copy build for my street motor.

should make at least 560.. everything working well 590 to 610

Jesus have you ever even worked on a car 🤣🤣🤷♂️!! Anyone knows any big block can make over 500hp super easily with factory iron heads on it!
300 horse from a big block is very very pathetic haha!! What planet are you on 🤣🤣
Somewhere around 525 ftlbs torque and 482 horsepower..,

But nothing more..
No placement for displacement 💪🏻
replacement
very impressive for 049 heads
Dyno lie, more like 500ish hp.
049s are the best factory cast iron BBC heads ever made- they can support well over 600 HP but need a crank to back that up.
Putting miles on her lol we’re did you drive her to 🤣🤣
with that big ass blower before the video started I was guessing around 600 i was pretty close

Five or six hundred

525 hp 550 lbs of torque
