My dad (a Marine and a farmer) is 82. Last week he had a heart valve replaced. Guess what, we brought him home the next day and felt good enough to go out for supper. He's felt better after the surgery than he has felt before the surgery for months. Us crazy, stubborn Danes are tough to put down.
Tim your Dad reminds me of my dad my is 81 and in good health he is retired but if he had it his way he would still be working He traveled a lot in his job and was gone a lot of nights when I was growing up and I mean a lot Mom finally put her foot down LOL and said it was time for him to be home with her and rest. Don't get me wrong he is on the go every day running errands playing golf seeing friends and so forth he doesn't know how to slow down and take it easy glad to see your dad doing so well I really like Randall and Tom they seem like great guys. Tim thank you so much for sharing this and the other videos with us I find it amazing the technology in farming nowadays This video was both educational and entertaining. Hope you have a great weekend. God Bless you and your family!!!
I previewed this after Christy finished editing. Felt like I had just sat down to watch when 30 minutes flew by. We were quite pleased with how it turned out.
Thanks Tim. I love these down on the farm vids. The technology used on the farm is fascinating. Your father looks like he doing great! But then, doing what he loves to do definitely has to help. He looked like he was thoroughly enjoying himself. And it looked like you were too.
thanks for the video. Really enjoy being inside the tractor and actually learning just how much goes into planting. Thanks. Love to see more of this type of videos.
great video tim. I'm starting to like the farm videos more then your regular ones, both good, but I'm finding your brother and nephew are pretty funny, and it's a fun way to learn a little about the farm life. keep up the great work.
Another great video showing the family farming operation! I learn something new every time. With the crazy prices people are getting for barn wood these days, you should tear that barn down and haul the wood back home and sell it on Craigslist. You might be able to cover some of your cost on a new tractor.
I think going back towards the big farming is fun to watch Your dad and uncle are very unique because of the age and seeing farming change I’m a 4 generation farmer so I find it cool
Another good video reminds me when we lived in indiana watching them plant corn and soybeans love the video's tim thanks for the time to show us these good video's
I really do enjoy these videos. It is amazing the complexity involved in planting with these “modern” planters. I’m still amazed you sit there in the tractor and “watch” as you go from end to end. Good to see your father doing well. Thanks again for taking us along.
One of your better videos. nice to see all the stuff that goes on. We had a 150 acre farm but all our seeding back then was gravity feed with a wheel counter.
Good video, Tim. I thought maybe Johnnie had eaten some vitamins and got all grown up! It's amazing the technology that goes into farming and the knowledge farmers must have to do what they do. Keep up the good work!
Been working on planter for years. I want to take those coulters off and throw them in the junk pile. Get row cleaners with clean sweep and make sure the opening disks are in spec and it’ll plant. May need to add weight to the fold stack though. DeltaForce would help too.
Like most everything, it would take a while to learn what's needed but it would take me a long time to do so. I love them big tractors and equipment. Better yet, how to operate them. Thanks for the ride.
Tim working in the field is the best medicine for your Dad doing something he loves I believe sitting a guy like him down would kill him so let him go.
Enjoyed the video Tim. That sure brings back the memories seeing y'all plant. Our equipment wasn't that big of modern. Glad your Dad is doing well. That is a nice or should I say was a nice old barn on your farm. Did it have the hay trolley in it when you bought it? Y'all take care and God bless.
Nice other stuff (smile). Man, that's a lot of corn to be planted. So Tim, are you going to contact Dupont for making a name change without notifying you (smile)? Wow, didn't know dad had heart attack. so good to have him out there. Man, I hope to be going as strong as your dad if I ever make it to 85. Wow $250/bag of corn. Thanks Tim. Like 398
Great video Tim my bud just got done with corn and I think he said he did around 35000.00 this year I think the price of seed corn keeps going up !! Hope you have a great weekend and they are safe in the fields ! God bless ! Kioti Curt 😀👍🚜
I am finding that the older I'm getting the more I'm realizing that getting a tractor with a cab is going to be the better for winter and help slow the progression of arthritis and not get the face wash of snow on the face and not get sunburnt in the summer and have to drink 2 gallons of water after mowing the lawn
We talked about those in the prior video ‘spring fever’. Markers...to indicate where to drive for the next pass. Not used much anymore since GPS handles the driving.
I'm afraid all that new technology makes me remember what Scotty on Star Trek said; "the more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".
Looked like the back right dual was low on the r tractor or do y’all run the wheels that way. I just finished planting our cotton tonight but got a custom job for a farmer which I’ll be planting soon but no timeframe yet. I normally don’t work sundays except when I’m trying to get something done before weather or during harvest if I’m helping one of the crews
Corn has not been saved/replanted since the 40’s. Farmers have planted “Hybrid” seed since then. This is part of the reason the anti-GMO crowd is so full of it. We have been “crossing “ seed corn for many generations. Look up hybrid seed corn for more info.
Tractor Time with Tim Makes sense, my mom grew up on a farm . She's in her early 70's. We always talked about her farming experience. Saving for my hobby farm. Lots of inspiration watching all the farming channels. Thank you. God bless.
Farmers dont talk about how many acres they farm and ranchers dont talk about how many cows they have. Much like most people dont ask others how much money they make. This is meant to be educational nothing else.
Each landowner rents their property to the farm. It is a ‘crop share’ arrangement. The division of expenses and income is proprietary info. However, it is dictated by tradition, and the competitive pressure in the area. Make sense?
They try to do no-till on most of it. They do some tillage. We have some video of the large moldboard plow from spring 2018. ...but they used it only to fill in ditches. They use the large disk quite often.
@@TractorTimewithTim I just saw the disk in another video, thanks for this info! The reason for this question is: I just started playing your family farm in Farming Simulator 19.:D
If you've never seen his channel, check out the "Millenial Farmer" TH-cam channel and some of his videos of planting corn (also a big Deere guy). One of the latest I've watched he was using an 8RX and having to go through a lot of these issues with settings and software for field management.
Really a smooth video after the kinks were worked out. I'm guessing they dis some stents or angioplasty to your Dad? Surely he didn't get his chest cracked, the tractor ride would cause horrible pain and maybe dislodge the bone growing process. Prayers for your Dad.
They didn’t do anything for dad. Said that his kidneys couldn’t handle it. Not a very positive prognosis. However, we are thrilled to see him out working.

Totally Fascinating! Just remember.....Life is too short.....to plant "ugly corn"!
My dad (a Marine and a farmer) is 82. Last week he had a heart valve replaced. Guess what, we brought him home the next day and felt good enough to go out for supper. He's felt better after the surgery than he has felt before the surgery for months. Us crazy, stubborn Danes are tough to put down.

as for digging a trench for a water line we used a single ripper tooth off an old cat bulldozer attached to our 49 farmall-worked pretty well

Yes. As far as I know, the hay trolley is still there.
Hey tom I work at pionner and yes the purple seed is a refuge seed and it's so they are identifiable
I would love to meet with u guys to tell u more

What are the arm disc things at 4:45? Those discs that are digging in the ground. What’s the purpose of them
We talked about those in the prior video ‘spring fever’. Markers...to indicate where to drive for the next pass. Not used much anymore since GPS handles the driving.

Yes, they run the radials very low PSI. Gives better ground contact to reduce slippage
How many acres do your family work? So gone are the days of claening corn for next year? Love the farming videos.
Corn has not been saved/replanted since the 40’s. Farmers have planted “Hybrid” seed since then. This is part of the reason the anti-GMO crowd is so full of it. We have been “crossing “ seed corn for many generations.

What was in the bottle, that he put on the seed? Nice set up!
Discussed when added on the second planter
So much more to farming than poke a hole in the ground a d drop a seed.🤠
What camera are you using for your videos? The quality of the video is excellent. Your channel is very educational for those of us who aren't farmers.
Thanks Thomas. Just a GoPro 4. Appreciate the compliment.
I grew up in a rural area but only planted corn in our garden. Amazed at the amount of technology involved in modern farming. Your welcome!
I think that the Finance Committee should authorize a drone for aerial photography.
Nice video, how big is the farm in acres
You can’t cut the beeping off it’s for when you press the auto steer button and etc.
Most of those beeps are from the tractors own greenstar i think. All to do with the gps.
Yep all the beeps are alerts for when ur coming close to another GPS line
How many acres is your family farming? Seems like a big operation
Farmers dont talk about how many acres they farm and ranchers dont talk about how many cows they have. Much like most people dont ask others how much money they make. This is meant to be educational nothing else.
Do you buy the seed and sell the crop yourself or does your family do everything and you get a cut of the profit. How do you do it?
Each landowner rents their property to the farm. It is a ‘crop share’ arrangement. The division of expenses and income is proprietary info. However, it is dictated by tradition, and the competitive pressure in the area.
Make sense?
Tractor Time with Tim hey on your old barn.... I have a question... Can I email you guys
Thanks for this video!:) One question: is your family farm completely no-till? Never saw any big tillage equipment in your videos?
They try to do no-till on most of it. They do some tillage.
We have some video of the large moldboard plow from spring 2018. ...but they used it only to fill in ditches.
They use the large disk quite often.
@@TractorTimewithTim I just saw the disk in another video, thanks for this info! The reason for this question is: I just started playing your family farm in Farming Simulator 19.:D

What are those outside long arms that I seen y'all put out for, thanks
Markers, so you can know where to drive for the next pass. Now with GPS steering, we only use them on end rows, and special occasions.
I would love to meet with u guys and tell u more
Get one a couple of the big tractors put chains on the barn and pull it down would make a good video
I'm not a farmer but, if that JD monator has no volume knob. The one on the radio works🤔 right? 😉
He eventually found the volume control. ...but we could Not find a way to have some alerts louder than others

Good video very automated and complicated all at the same time...
Lots of moving parts.
have you decided on a bigger tractor yet
Not yet. Update coming Sunday.
When I was a boy wr had a 2 row planter amd a team of horses.
You are no spring chicken, Ken!
your dad sure is tough after heart attack and still farming pretty good for 85 years old and still farming wich pretty good
This is a little late ... But to turn the beeping sound of . Go to settings>display>sounds if I remember correctly I was doing night shifts and those beeps were getting really annoying.
What was that in the black plastic bottle that Tom was putting in on top of the corn seed in the 1'st planter?
The same ‘talc’ discussed with the second planter
good video time
Guessing this is a JD planter, my uncle Earny uses a custom made one that folds on top of each other.
Of course it's a good ride its a john deere LOL, But great video of what farmers do to grow food for the world
...of course the "good ride" being discussed is back at the actual row unit where the seed is being dropped. ...but I think you knew that :-)
Do more corn hauling and bean too elevator
A rough estimate, what’s it cost to run a big nice farm like this?
Sorry. Proprietary
are you guys considered hobby farmers?
Barn,? that's termites holding hands. 😁
Ha!
Is Randall your brother?
Nephew. Tom’s son. Welcome to our farm videos :-)
At 25:21, I was hoping to see the barn collapse to the ground :)
Maybe in a later video!
lol that's not fair-we had to plant our corn seed by hand(4 rows. @ 400 feet long each) -our garden was 300' x 400' approx. 2.5 acres
Local fire department could (maybe)use the barn for a training burn
Hey! Stop making fun of my barn!!!! :-)

So DuPont spun off the company to shelter themselves from lawsuits?
$6,500 to fill the planter dang!!!! I’ve always loved huge equipment, just not the prices.
Chase never hear anything about how much they make! Always going broke lol
I spend 70,000 on a piece of equipment there better be somebody out there to get the ends and out on it done
