Hey, great video, ive got everything in place, wires are there, need to pop in the vag code.... my only issue is the spare wheel cavity in my 2015 sportback is too small to hold the speaker, looks like I'd need a 220mm plastic screw to clamp it in place, or i would need to go without the tyre... any advice on this? Cheers
Really helpful video, one thing I’m struggling with is wiring the sub to the quad lock. I’m doing it to a Leon mk3 the 2 ports for the sub already have wires going in. Is there a way of connecting it without tapping into those so the changes are easy to reverse?
hi saw your post and it looks quite straightforward. will do this to my upcoming A3. in the video you mentioned that u needed to do the car coding is this to remove faults or programming the mmi? secondly what is the part number for the extended screw you mentioned?
YES you need someone with VCP not VCDS to do the parameters on the MMI. VAG CAR CODING are who does my coding if i can't do it on VCDS. I didn't get screw in the end as i didn't feel the need for it.
Hy , i have a3 8v sportback 2015, connector is there for subwoofer …but sparewheel missing and subwoofer to..if i buy the subwoofer will work ? Or need to do like in video without wiring, thx
Thanks mate, I follow your video and everything is done. If you do not want to make new wires, you can also buy ready wires harness like i did for 35 pounds for subwoofer and central speaker
Hi, thx for the video, it helped me a lot! Do you happen to know if my MMI, the 8V0 035 864 B (CQ-XA13F1AE) can drive sub and center speaker? Connector pins are there on the quadlock, I installed everything but my Audi garage is having trouble coding the headunit...
Hey i did everything the way you did it and it worked. But i have many warnings lights on airbag, traction control, power steering, tire pressure sensor on how can i fix this
Hi. Great video! Will it work on all MMI's? I'm getting my A3 8v (saloon) delivered next week (2nd hand) and want to perform this update. So no need for an amp, or only with certain MMI's? Tnx in advance!
Hi, really good video, bought all the kit but bought the wrong connectors for the MMI. All the speakers are installed I just haven't connected it up to the MMI. Took the loom off the MMI put it all back and now comes up with a system fault whenever I start the car, allows me to start and drive and everything. Don't suppose you or anyone else had this problem? Cheers
Update: The warning light is for when the airbag was disconnected through the glove box, this is going to be sorted when I go to VAG car coding which will clear the warning light. The connectors which connect the speaker wire to the MMI unit are a rip off. If you go on RS.Online the stock number is 7181070 and you get a pack of 10 for £4, just connect these straight to your speaker wire or get some smaller wire and join them together, took me 5 minutes to do all four for the centre speaker and subwoofer. Really good tutorial though, wouldn't have done it if I hadn't found this video!
Hi Tim, I got a subwoofer same as this but it doesn't fit "inside" the sparewheel, it sits more on top. The part number 8V0035382D which I believe is correct for 8v subwoofer , wonder if there are smaller spare wheels in some a3s?
Hi, awesome video! Just wanted to know what gauge wire you used as your extension cable? Do you know how thick the yellow wires and the wires that connect to the back of the quadlock are?
Don't know the thickness but i assume they need to be super thin to mix in with the wires that are there... best bet is to go with the official audi wires... i used standard halfords speaker wire to extend so don't know the thickness mate.. Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe! TW
Hi mate, What do you mean? Cant really show now that it has been installed...maybe could have done one before... If you haven't done it, id highly recommend it! Massive difference! Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe! TW
Hello again Tim, please bring some light on this install, does the factory audio system have subwoofer pre’out build in or amplified sub out that is not active? Unfortunately I can’t find anyone who can bring some light on the issue in my area, I mean, I know that lots of my car option are there but their inactive, but to install an amp with deactivated ports sounds odd!!!....So like I said, can you please bring some light on this matter? Thanks a lot mate, great diy video’s.
Hi Daniel, Hopefully I can be of some help... From what I learnt and saw during my install, the ports on the MMI are not active. The base MMI unit is what I had and I connected the sub to it as seen (I did bodge it up a bit) and it didn't work, as soon as the ports were activated, the bass came in straight away...there are 3 systems... standard (which its what I had), ASS = Audi Sound System which has the sub and centre install and Bang and Olufsen which has everything...
Ok, so from what I understand, you connected the pins to sub’out on the plug, activate it with vcds, and no additional amp was required, correct me if I’m wrong, so how do you control the sub level, after activating the sub/center channel, the MMI unit shows sub’ volume menu?By the way, I have the exact MMI unit as you do. And another question if you have any clue, I want to replace all the speakers in the car, the stock speakers are very low quality, but now I stumbled on another issue, I don’t know if you notice, as you crank up the volume the bass goes down, and because the MMI doesn’t have pre’amp outputs I have to connect the amp to the speaker wires, but from what I’ve read on the web, the bass roll down will affect the amp also, do you have any idea if there’s a way to bypass the bass roll down with VCDS? Thank you for answering.
Also to draw a line, basically all 3 versions that comes on the audi have the same hardware, the only differences being active or inactive ports and some software tweaks?
activated with vag can pro.. VCDS alone cannot do it...I didn't code it too...that was done by Alix at VagCarCoding...The auto volume is built into MMI and if I recall all versions do it...cannot be coded out...I heard only way is to buy an amp and crank up all speakers so when it does turn down, it is still loud...dont know much about car audio so best bet from there would be car audio specialist...sorry I can't be of more help matey.. Subscribe and like please! TW
