I didn't clarify a VERY important point in the video. In the video I say from STORIES archetypes emerged, this is partially true but more correctly it should read the archetypes exist in stories because they exist in our minds FIRST, then they end up in stories subconciously. I seem to have implied in the video at a certian point that they CAME from stories. This is not where they originated! Apologies.

Archetypes bring dissolutionment to some and enlightenment to others. If you are a bible fanatic you will not like archetypes, because it SHEADS LIGHT on brainwashing and BRINGS TO LIGHT a lack of education.

I am reading C Jung’s book Memories, Dreams, Reflections and looked up archetypes, as I don’t recall a sufficient explanation from English class in the past, which your video easily clarified for me. It’s such a great book and I respect what Jung did to achieve his goal - at what appears to be great personal cost. I am only half way in and know that I will read more Jung. Thx for his references, he deserves recognition.

That's the reason I made the video in the first place. It took me so long to figure out what an archetype was at the very base and where all these different meanings came from that by the time I understood it I was like, hey I could explain that really easily for other people so they don't have to do what I just did.

I agree with your statement about the definition not being insightful. When comparing an archetype to a prototype, at which point I looked up the example of an archetype, I became extremely confused; however, your video has helped me in understanding what the definitive answer is for an archetype, also aiding in my process of comparing the two. Thank you very much for the video!

I think this is a great video for a quick and basic introduction to archetypes. I would go further to say that it is not just a human behavioral pattern, it goes deeper than that. Perhaps, you could say that archetypes spring from something deeper, such as emanations of the creative force, itself. Seeing as how humans are animals with millions of years of evolution. Animals have sprung up from nature and are not separate from the earth. Therefore, these archetypes are patterns of life and of creation and exist from the beginning of existence. Modern scientific thinking has a bad habit of compartmentalizing any given phenomenon as if it were really possible to isolate things in such a way.

My back head are pretty big, people noticed it. And that not for nothing, I have an insomnia, my mind keep (so very)active receiving a lot of knowledge and information my physical brain never hear/see it from anyone before. So before it drives me crazy I smoked weed once to get asleep.
I once have a theory about it, but it's more mystical. The reason why we can gain that knowledge from subconscious is because the reincarnation system. I think that our soul can be found on some area of the brain and is actually an energy and memory that carrying an important information and knowledge that will later be passed on to the next body, I know it sounds like a neuron but neuron can be created and destroyed!(REMEMBER! Energy can't be created nor destroyed, but only change from one form into another form. On the religion side: a soul's, no matter where it goes heaven or hell, it will be for eternal - that means our souls ALSO can't be destroyed like an energy, perhaps only GOD can really CREATE it. not US).
What do you guys think about it?

The Genesis myth has the wise old wizard who is beyond time and space as we know it. The Anima and the animus or male and female and the adversary. So does the legend of Camelot (with Merlin living beyond human age ), Lord of the rings, Star Wars and Harry Potter. Though Lord of the Rings didn't have the guy, girl thing.

@ True Senor. If you don't take it literally and look at it mythicaly , the story becomes powerful again.

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@seamus9305 I agree although I think that the Archetype has just as much power for the people that think it is literal. That's what I really love about Archetypes. The Greeks were convinced that if they scaled Olympus they would find the gods there, it didn't mean their stories lost power. Infact I would argue the reasons these stories survived at all is because people across the globe took their stories literally and the archetypes and messages were all the more powerful as a result.

I was trying to find the clash royale definition of archetype

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Its kind of the same thing but simplified. When you're talking about video game archetypes you're usually talking about the category a certain build fits into. In card games like Magic the Gathering for example there are control decks, aggressive decks, tempo decks etc. You can replace decks with Archetype. The STYLE of the build you are using in any given game is also called the Archetype. There is a direct relation to the definition in this video but it is a greatly similified definition. TL;DR It means the same thing as this video but simplified. A pattern or type of thing.

The Wise Old Man archetype doesn't need a Jungian explanation. When people lived a long life, making it past the dangers of their youngers days, they gained wisdom. This is just human experience. So old people in ANY culture could often be seen as wise, usually because they WERE wiser than the younger generations of their own people. And so people around them would come to them for mentorship and wisdom. This is not really difficult to comprehend, is it?

Jung explained that all archetypes at their cores were human bevhaviours expressed through story. You've just described a universal human behaviour or experience, the wisdom of elders. This is not really difficult to comprehend, is it?

@ No, but perhaps my comment was. I just meant that there is no Jungian explanation necessary for the collective cultural idea that there are old wise people, so having old wise men (and women) archetypes isn't necessarily due to some collective unconscious, but due to a tangible, universal human experience, not something inside our heads inherited from past generations. It's visible in the here and now, as it was then. Some other archetypes, perhaps yes, a collective unconscious explanation would be necessary. But not the wise old man. :) Gracias for the reply, as well.

@@Myrdden71 I agree with you, I'm just saying that in some ways what your saying IS the collective unconcious. I know the wise old man is has a very obvious reason for existing as you point out but Jung believed that it was these types of universal human experiecnes that formed the collective unconcious in the first place.
