Reviews of clothing, boots, and accessories for men, along with style advice and life philosophy. I've been working with my hands for my entire life as a mechanic, tow truck driver, and eventually a licensed electrician. Being a blue collar guy, I look for certain elements in a product: is it durable? Is it high-quality? Will it perform well over its service life? Whether boots, pants, jackets, or tools I believe it's best to buy once and cry once by getting the best you can afford. With so many options these days, choosing the best product can become a difficult decision, but that's where I come in. Helping you stay stylish, rugged, and handsome.
I don't care where it's made as long as it's made well, and allows you to buy less and buy better.

Wow, love those boots! I’m an old Army tanker and wear my tanker boots all the time for jobs around the house. They’re designed for safety around heavy machinery, like tanks, and to be comfortable when you’re on your feet a lot, but not hiking, like operating and maintaining on a tank. Those Nicks are sweet! Could see splurge in future…

Ordered these when this video went out and they just arrived today.
Maybe it's because I have some thick feet, but I don't see the open lacing gap by the toe, they just snug up to the top of my foot.
These are my first pair of Nicks, and now I understand why they're recommended so much.
Great review, and a great pair of boots.

I ask because I'm fixing to order a pair to use primarily as motorcycle boots and am concerned about marking up the left toe with the black from the shifter peg. I like the look of the brown and if they clean up pretty easily, I'll stick with them. If not, I'll end up with the black. Thanks, Royce

I wore them for years after I got out until the boots began to fail. Now that I see these, guess what I am going to get next? Probably a pair in black and brown. Thanks for doing the review on these. As a Soldier that was a. Artillerymen we weren’t allowed to wear tanker boots .
But hey , I’ve been out for 30 years and pushing 59 years old this year.
So , I wanna order a pair but I’ll have to see if they have em in either 13.5 Wide or 14 wide .
One of many reasons is that I served 10 years in the Army only to be told several years ago by the VA that I’m flat footed and I have plantar fasciitis and bunions and drop foot in my right foot . Feels like my socks are slipping cause my foot isn’t working as it should plus the extreme pain through the early part of the morning lasting till I stop wearing my 5.11 boots with custom orthotics from the VA ,along with wearing a game changer KT tape for the many ailments of my feet .
    Great reviews

I love my builder pros so much. I've really only had two issues with them. First being the break in, words can't articulate how horrible it was. And the second being the laces. They take ages to get on. Nevertheless, I still wear them casually because of how ungodly comfortable they have become. Leather soles with massive arches over padded foam sneakers any day of week!
I've been really wanting a pair of those tankers whenever I can justify purchasing them and muster up the courage to go through a second break in.
I'd be nice if they can fix the open lacing part near the toe to make it look nicer. Maybe two straps with a button stud instead of another buckle?

I have a question about how you have these boots spec'd out aside from what you provided in the video. Anyway you can drop down a list on how yours were exactly ordered for a reference?
Like for example the arch you have in your boots would that be considered moderate? This will be my first time buying high end work boots. And the way yours are spec'd out are to my liking lol.
But some things i don't quite understand. I don't like high arches for me the flatter the better. In their pictures the HNW happens to be the same arch yours have but once you select your arch its not there so i'm assuming its moderate?.
Also is your entire boot roughout and can you provide the color yours are exactly in?
What does it mean for the edge color?
I would like for mine to be the same color and leather type as yours. I'm just not familiar on how to go about it.
Last question, have you ever had to run in these? Not that these are meant for running. I work transporting and leveling mobile homes. At times if there is a situation that needs to be handled swiftly i would have to run lol so i'm curious.

I got a really high arch but ive always worn orthotic inserts. Never tried a high arch or logger style boots cause im 6'8" and i dont need any help with height. Would love to try Nicks but im no where near a store to tey on and get advice. Im in the commercial trades and id love some rough out builder pros but im unsure about the process and how well I could actually be fit remotely. My dogs been barking for years though and a proper fitting pair of good boots made for me is like a dream.

So far my Nick’s boots have been the best boots at any cost. About to order another pair. Probably don’t have a need for the Tanker’s, however I do see the benefits of no laces. Thanks for the review.

if I bought a 10" boots I agree I can definitely see how you would have to factor in an extra 30min to barely squeeze in the time it takes to lace em up those extra 2 seconds add up! 🤭Just messing around, does seem like a silly gripe my non speed laced full called boots they were infuriating. I love the builder pro I need some motivation to spend that much at once where $ is always tight, I get sick of wearing crap boots that fall apart or wear out where I'm on my feet on concrete all day shooting sparks on them and threads burn out ruining em. especially where budget decent boots aren't very budget anymore. When I could snatch up a pair of ok Carolina loggers for $125 sure but I'm not spending $200+ for an ok boot. One thing I liked about the Carolina was they had a rivet at the bottom of the upper half so when the threads burn out I could at least still somewhat tighten the laces some untill I could replace them. I had a pair of Chippewa boots they were over $200 and those threads burned out fast making so when I tighten the laces the 2 flaps pull together not hooked to anything accomplishing nothing but a floppy loose boot. I am a cheap skate my boots heels wore crooked off to one side it was bothering my foot so I took them off and flattened em back out on the band saw at work while standing in my socks... I got razzed so bad for being so cheap lol. I think my work my start partially subsidize the cost of boots like 150 or something if they do I think I'll just put like $50 a week aside until I can get some nicks I'm sick of putting money ahead of comfort especially where I get plantar fasciitis which is excruciating to hobble around for 10 hours a day it wears on your mood well being it's not worth saving a couple bucks.

I really like the design of those straps - do you think everyday, long walking boots would work with them or they would not be secure enough?

    • @Texas240
      @Texas240 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

For slip on or non lace models, like this tanker, the Nick's Boots website has you check a box saying you understand that the boot will have "heel slip" and an info icon that further explains that your foot is going to move around and it's not ideal for hiking, long walks, etc.
I've had cowboy boots that were fine but they've usually have a narrower fit and feel almost like a tall moccasin.
I had a pair of Dr. Martens slip on work boots that were comfortable when standing still and had a great grippy anti-everything sole but were the most unbearable footwear I've ever walked in with a penchant for gnawing on my heel, ankle, and achilles even after wearing them off and on for 5 years before finally giving up on them.
These tankers having some adjustment to tightness instead of none are probably better to walk in but I wouldn't plan on long walks with them. If you're standing a lot with lots of short bits of walking as opposed to hiking, it's probably fine. Some tankers in these comments have said about as much.
I'm considering a pair myself because my job is mostly sitting, with occasionally having to walk a bit. My previous experience with the slip on type work boots from Dr Martens has me leary, though.
For comparison, my current daily boot is the Belleville One Xero, which wears like a basketball high top, is lightweight and comfortable to walk in. I usually lace them, but they're comfortable to walk in with laces loose and untied. Although, I tend to land my foot more on the out side and don't like the "washed out" feeling of the boot not holding my foot at all. But, I can just pull them on and go do something if I don't feel like cinching them up.
However, these boots have cordura at the achilles and ankle, so having it loose doesn't result in blisters or chaffing that leather probably would.
The downside to these, and what has me looking at alternatives is that they aren't resoleable and on my 3rd pair in 4 years (due to super grippy outsole) I could've bought a pair of something like Nick's and am tired of throwing away a perfectly good and perfectly broken in upper.
Anyway, long rambling answer, but thought I'd pass on the notice I saw on their website and my recent boot experience for perspective.
