When I was a kid, I had a clear picture in my head of a cutscene that would play at the end of the game: the train tracks break off at a cliff, the character jumps, grabs a special rope, and rolls down to his house, and the police officer, who is too heavy for the rope, stops and yells angrily after the character.
I have no idea where I got that idea, but I believed in it with all my heart.

As someone with a little bit of development experience I would think that the reason why your points no longer register after that certain point is probably an overflow issue. Most variables have a set length that they can be depending on the language it's coded in, once the game tries to print the number with 1 more digit than it can handle it doesn't know what to do, and breaks.
I hear a lot of metroid speed runners use overflow glitches by spamming certain commands in certain areas that already have really long lines of code.
I don't know enough about the subject to be certain but at first listen that would be my thought!
Nope, it's just that 2147483648/2147483647 is the max number an unsigned 32 bit integer can register, after that when it tries to write a number it adds a digit to the one part which is responsible for positive/negative numbers since all the other ones are taken up, which obviously causes the number to... well... reverse.

This video made me realise how scary the subway surfers world is when you really think about it, the cop literally chases you to the ends of the Earth, moving trains will either hit stationary trains that you’ve already passed or just stop existing once they pass you, trains are stopped in the middle of nowhere, the subway never ends and neither the kid or the cop ever sleep, drink or eat for thousands of years. They forget who they were before, there whole lives just becoming running and running and running, the kid can’t even remember why the cop is chasing him, and the cop can’t even remember why he is chasing him or what his life even was before this because its been so long. It’s terrifying when you think about it.

Man, Tetris does have an end, and it’s amazing. As you reach a certain amount of points which I dom’t clearly remember, there will be one of the following endings:
The first one shows something like the Kremlin and a bunch of videogame characters such as Link, Kid Icarus and a few from Mario games. After showing all the points and stats, pieces of the building will basically start taking off like little rockets till it’s all gone.
The second one shows the same building that basically takes off as a whole rocket, and yeah that’s basically it.
The last ending just shows the Kremlin again, but this time there’s an actual rocket takin’ off.
I believe in the very first version there was yet another ending showing just some Russian guys dancing.
I might have fucked up the order of the endings a little.

I remember my mom playing this game once. She was very good at it. I don't know how long she lasted in one game but I think it was either 5 or 10 minutes or more. She was doing amazing, and then out of nowhere the map seemed to stop generating. There was a huge black tunnel up ahead. It looked completely black, nothing that was visible inside. She was ABOUT to make inside the dark tunnel but a train got her and she lost. Never again have I seen the dark tunnel since :/
