Saw that you were going to put up this video - on a Facebook post. Since I have the parts, I was looking for inspiration. Perfect! Just what I needed. Thanks.
Well done. Be interesting to see if you could add electronics to it ... maybe a tiny video display inside them? Love rather obscure props that don't get a lot of screen time.
@@trooperbulldog44 You can manage the same effect without any additional board using (drumroll)... blinking leds. You can even find them on Amazon in packs of 50, already wired and ready to install. Sure you can't program the blinking but sometimes simpler is better ! 😊
You are seriously skilled. I love watching you at work. It is so much fun to see your projects come to life. Thank you for letting us peek over the master's shoulder as he works.
Always love seeing your work both here and on insta! Also, love the production quality of your videos and the straight to the point nature of the techniques used. Great work.
They came out fantastic, Derek!!! Love the quilted base plate on the case...Quick question, what are the black hot glue sticks you are using? Are they for fabrics or all purposes?
Thanks Aedo! The black glue sticks are Surebonder's new Cosplay Stik. They're sort of a multi-use glue that's worked pretty well for me since they sent me some to test out.
Turned out great! This is another one of those Star Wars props I like and have on my list to make someday. Yours turned out really nice and the chipping looks great. The case was a good touch!
This came out great and the weathering is fantastic. Thougths on switches ... I have seen some recomment the switch on the positive and some on the negative wires. I see you did the positive ... curious if you have found that to work better for you?
Low voltage doesn't pose any threat for serious injury so either would be fine. However, failing to break the live connection in higher voltage means that the light or appliance still has mains voltage when it is switched off, potentially a life threatening situation.
It's just what I had in the glue gun, so there's nothing special about the color. It's the Surebonder Cosplay Stik hot glue, which they sent me, and it's been my goto ever since. The plastidip "leather" turned out ok. No one's going to confuse it for real leather, but it's definitely rugged enough without completely hiding the quilting in the fabric.
hey! im a new sub and I love ur channel! it would be cool if you made a "camtono" aka the ice cream maker cuz im making one with a paint bucket and it is really fun.
I would have added a Raspberry Pie and two small video monitors for the eye holes, so that it looks like you are actually viewing through the monocular.
Cartoonish?? Not at all! After service on Hoth, those electrobinoculars were mishandled by several Ewoks on the third moon of Endor! The whole set came out wonderfully. The quilted fabric to leather transformation in particular was great.
Awesome Derek!!! Love all of it man!
You certainly have a good eye for chipping effect & scratches. The finished look is perfect in my opinion!
Thanks, Norm!
Glad the reference picture was useful! This is an excellent build!
NICE!
The case is a great touch...esp. those lighted panels...
Must look great with the lenses now
💯💯💯
Dude both props turned out great! Inspired me to pick up my supplies and make something!
Glad to hear it!

Glad I could help!

Yes, I would be interested to know more about the electronics. How do you get one red led to blink in the chain of leds you made?

@@the_arcanum Cheers! Thanks for the info!
Magnificent! How great is your result! I love both the model and the weathering effect! Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks so much! 😊

Awesome build
That is the most hardcore hot clue gun I’ve ever seen!(also great work!)
I know, right?! LOL

Stunning job. I need those on my shelf!
Go for it!
Great build. These turned out awesome!
Glad you like them!
You do really good work my man!!!
Thank you!
Great video. You doing amazing work. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻🔥🔥
Thank you!

Nice, both look amazing.

Great stuff. Really inspiring. Thanks!
Very, very good! Thanks very much.
That looks so great! I want one now
You should make one!
@@VanOaksProps I don't have a good source to 3d pouring right now.
I might try to scratch build, but that is a lot more difficult

I'm not a big electronics guy, but I'd assume it would be the same. You're just putting something in the way of completing the circuit.
Low voltage doesn't pose any threat for serious injury so either would be fine. However, failing to break the live connection in higher voltage means that the light or appliance still has mains voltage when it is switched off, potentially a life threatening situation.
When I read your video title, I thought you were going to make one that actually works :)
I wish! I'm not quite that clever.
My weathering step is to let my 2 and 4 year old play with the prop for an evening....instant wear and tear.
Hahahaha! I bet!
Duplicolor makes an adhesion promoter that has yet to fail me. you can find it in most auto parts stores or Amazon has it too now
I'll have to check that out! Thanks for the suggestion.
Did you paint the laser cut plexi details without removing the paper?
Nope. The grey & red acrylic squares were those colors. I didn't paint them at all. All the other laser cut parts were MDF.
@@VanOaksProps ahhh. Sorry. I didn't understand they were thin MDF! Gotcha.
Is there any special property about the black hot glue, or simply that it is black.
Plus, dude, how did the plastidip on cloth do simulating leather??

What printer did you print this on ?
I didn't. I purchased a printed kit from another maker.
I would have added a Raspberry Pie and two small video monitors for the eye holes, so that it looks like you are actually viewing through the monocular.
Great idea
Needs some lettering and graphics. Or so it seems.
Great suggestion. I thought about it, but the video was already feeling a bit long so I passed on it. But maybe in the future I'll update it.

Hahaha! Exactly! Thank you, even with the weathering I'm still very happy with how they turned out.
Lost me at 3D printing 🙄
Don't get hung up on the technology. There's many ways to build these and then you can use the finishing tips to complete your build.
