    That hop is simulating a runner sliding into you. My high school baseball team does that as well. First time i tried it my freshman year it felt wierd cuz nobody was sliding into you but it simulates the runner so in the game you won't be taken out.

    So just to set the record straight on the typical thing so common when a baseball instructional video goes up, anywhere, but YT is worst, but since i live in the DFW market and scout for another club in MLB, the guys that so many commented on not doing it the way "we did in HS" lol, i bet your Iowa baseball team is the shit, i get it, but 3 of these guys went on to play in MLB and the short 2nd baseman is Rougned Odor, starting 2nd baseman for Rangers now in 2017. The lanky SS is Jurikson Profar, on the MLB club now as well, and Mike Olt, played 3b for MLB club and traded i think. Point is several of them went on to MLB and they were doing the same thing you would see at most or all of the clubs team work in Spring Training. This is what professional baseball looks like, it is more artistic and free form, instinctual than you're going to see at a HS or even most college programs.

    Makes me miss practice when I played in Florida, I had a blast doing these drills all day in HS. Being a good fielder is all about repetition, once you stop thinking about what your doing is when you're doing it right.

  • @TacoStacks
    @TacoStacks 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    These are fundamental, if you play on a pro ball field with bad hops being 1-2 inch differences that happen once every 20 throws. This is a shit show if you do it on mostly any field in America. Especially inner city where the ball won't bounce, go 2 feet the other way, or skip. It becomes more of a hockey drill where all you try to do is make sure the ball doesn't go 10 feet behind ya.

    • @chrisberg1735
      @chrisberg1735 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Dude, you shouldn't be coaching with that attitude. They were not practicing ground balls, they were practicing the footwork, handwork, etc. It's the fundamentals.

    Ashlie if this is routine that your coaches do only the first day, then you should get new coaches. These are drills that major league infielders do on a daily basis. These are the fundamentals that make you a better infielder. Repetition of good mechanics, daily. Practice, practice practice.

    • @SlupergamingTechGaming
      @SlupergamingTechGaming 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** These are actually routine drills depending on what level you play, you're prior statements lead me to assume that you don't play travel or rep ball. Thos grounders were coming in slow. I play rep ball (canada term) and i know i would be off the team if i were not capable of executing those plays. double plays and grounders and quick hands are essential.

    • @sabriasasalinas
      @sabriasasalinas 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Slupergaming yeah but you do them daily at a slower rate to instill good mechanics... Like hitting off a tee the ball isn't moving so it gives you reflection on your hitting.

    Very little good technique demonstrated in this video. Must have been before Ron Washington, he enforces good fundamentals, not this type of peacock technique. Any infielder that trains to play one-handed will likely be joining Ian Desmond in the outfield if they are good enough to hang around.

      For his bat, to play outfield or first base?......Hanley Ramirez is another example of a player that can no longer hold down a middle infield position, but has a good enough bat to find a glorified DH position. And quite honestly, in the today's market, that is just above minimum wage for a veteran player.
