    Awesome informative inspirational video! I love to grow gourds and do crafts with them! I made a canteen from a birdhouse gourd that looked like a snowman made from a big snowball topped by a smaller snowball. I cut a hole about an inch in diameter in the top & used a wire coat hanger to clean out the membrane & seeds (it took forever!) Washed it out well several times,, let it dry, scraped it some more then warmed it up in my oven before pouring about a third of a cup of hot melted paraffin in it & swishing it around to coat & seal its insides. I did this two or three times. Then, with my Dremel, I carved some Native American designs & symbols on it followed by a stain I made from boiling a few black walnuts still in their green hulls. I use a cork to keep it from sloshing out. The water from it still tastes a little off but all in all I'm pretty happy with it. I can't wait to try some of the Gourd Lady's ideas! Thank you so much!!

    We visited Gourdlandia this past year during our trip to the Finger Lakes. It was fabulous, she was delightful, and Atlas Obscura happened to be there that day. It will be a treasured memory!

    When I saw the first Gourd Lady video it inspired me to set up a trellis and grow some gourds. I had already planted by bed out this year, but I'm going to build out some space for next year!

    I’m going to go to her website ASAP! I have seen gourd art before but *never* at her level! I’d love to get a couple of floor lamps (I can’t believe I’m saying that)! She really opened my eyes and mind to loving all things gourds!

      I used a little Dremel tool, and make sure to wear a mask and eye protection. The dust goes everywhere, and of course projectiles from the gourd or tool. 👍👍

    I think you should get in touch with Mike Rowe of, "Somebody's Gotta Do it." Mike used to do "The Dirty Job show." It would make an interesting program with Mike and his film crew attempting to do gourd art. There is actually a festival of gourd art near Casa Grande, AZ called "Running of the Gourds" in the early spring months. I have heard that many people from all over come to this Running of the Gourds. I believe it is through the Wuertz farm near by outside of Casa Grande.

    She was awesome. Love that she is giving away free seeds...are gourds something that can be planted on a windowsill in NYC?

    • @LibraLady-hg4pd
      @LibraLady-hg4pd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gourds grow on long long long vines. You could start them on ur windowsill but they would probably take over ur entire kitchen, maybe ur entire apt!! Perhaps u could train the vine to grow around n around n around ur window? Be fun to try!

    What is the history of the use and utilization, art of gourds?

    • @gourdlandia
      @gourdlandia 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh there's a LOT of history! Going back at least 25,000 years, pre-dating pottery. Come to Gourdlandia, I'll tell you as much as I know!
