  • See if Audi's blend of sport and luxury goes down smooth in the S6. MotorWeek's John Davis has the Road Test review of the 2013 Audi S6.

    Audi tends to underrate their cars. Audi says the S4 does 0-60 in 4.7, but it's actually closer to 4.2. S6/S7 are supposed to be 4.5, but are actually closer to 4. Lastly, the S8 is supposed to be 4, but can get as low as 3.5 0-60. It really depends on tires and the conditions, but Audis are usually faster than the company says.

    0-60 in 3.8? Thats wicked quick acceleration. Horsepower has to be underrated.

    John Davis has spoken like this since the beginning. It's a bit of an acquired taste I do admit. For those of us that have seen car shows come and go, it's a bit refreshing to hear someone so familiar. He's just REALLY enthusiastic even in non-Motorweek interviews.

    Shouldn't the S6 be compared to the BMW 550i instead of the M5? I thought an RS6 would be the M5 competitor. It seems like they don't really have something that matches up directly.

    My '13 S6 just rolled 124K miles. Factory rated it at 420 but they have been dynoed at 480 stock. Mine has been bumped to 550. Add Ferro carbon brake pads and a few suspension and drivetrain bushing upgrades and it's a dream. My lifetime mileage average is about 19.8 but I do not drive it "average". People talk about reliability and it's had its share of shop time, but to be honest it repairs on items other cars don't have. It well worth it. It's the best car I've ever been in let alone owned. Still turn my head to look back in awe when I park it and walk away.
    Side note 3.5/11.8 with tune.

    • @dutchschaefer5787
      @dutchschaefer5787 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve owned my ‘14 for 4 years now. It’s stage 1 with RS6 airbox and milltek cat back, just on 500hp. I’ve just passed 100k myself and I’m getting just under 19mpg lifetime. It’s my wife’s daily driver, I think she must be doing a fair bit of spirited driving 😂. I had mine dropped 15mm and have 12mm spacers all round.
      I totally get why you love the car, it’s fantastic, this is the longest I’ve kept a car. The only car I loved more was a ‘06 RS4 avant I had about 8 years ago.
      I’m now on the look out for a C7.5 RS6.

    • @datsuntoyy
      @datsuntoyy ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did the airbox make much difference in the noise level? I'd like more sound, wife won't let me spring for exhaust. I'd really like down pipes but I hear it's risky with emissions.

    • @dutchschaefer5787
      @dutchschaefer5787 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@datsuntoyy with the airbox I’ve also used a pipercross filter, there is a small amount of noticeable extra noise. It sounds a bit more throaty and you can hear the turbos and when you let off the throttle. I put the standard airbox back on a few weeks ago when the car went in for the recall on the oil strainer just so it looked completely stock. My wife said it sounded different and said she noticed it seem slightly less responsive. I’ll take her word as she’s in it everyday.
      The inlet hoses on the RS6/7 airbox are larger than the S6/7 so I had to use a small off cut off silicone pipe on the turbo inlet pipes. Then the hoses fit well over them.
      I’ve never heard anyone in the UK have problems passing emissions tests.

    • @datsuntoyy
      @datsuntoyy ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dutchschaefer5787 I had mine in two weeks ago for the turbo strainers. They "updated" the software and erased my stage 1 APR and my track timer activation.
      My wife hates my car. Too fast and too high tech for her. she has a base model A4 "09 vintage and it's fine for her. Infact in the 9 1/2 years I've had it she's never felt launch control. She'd crap herself. lol
      Emissions here can be hit or miss with down pipes. It's just a very expensive gamble for 30 or so hp.

    • @dutchschaefer5787
      @dutchschaefer5787 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@datsuntoyy that’s a nightmare erasing your APR map. Will you have to pay to have it reinstalled?
      I’m quite lucky really my wife likes fast Audis so she’s keen to get an RS6. The only car she complained about was an RS3 we had. She said it was too small to get stuff in. But it was very quick, that had an APR stage 1 and milltek decat.

    I can vouch for the electronic problems, my keyless entry stop working. Usually I can just touch the handle and the doors unlock. Dealer said it needs a new sensor.
    I also heard Audi understates their HP numbers but I see that as a good thing and still manage to have MPG correctly listed is impressive.
    When it comes to cars with a lot of HP, AWD is the way to go.

  • @ErwinSchrodinger64
    @ErwinSchrodinger64 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Other magazines have stated the same as well. I was somewhat skeptical but then after some research this AWD that Audi employs doesn't waste power. In addition, Audi's numbers like many top tier automakers are highly conservative. Case in point, the Audi S8: supposedly the S8 only has 520 hp at the crank. However, when it was dyno tested it had close to 580 hp at the crank.

    "420HP, 406 FT LBS" and "12.2 @ 112 MPH" don't match up. Audi gave them a boosted version of their car to test. Would have loved to see this test car dyno'ed it would have been closer to 500hp & 480FT LBS. I would like to see Joe Blow pull off those times without any tune or mods.

    • @jwj500
      @jwj500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Audi did not give them a "boosted version." However, Audi rates their engines similar to how BMW does, in the worst conditions, (altitude, heat, etc) that this is the least amount of HP this engine will make. So, if you did put on a dyno, you will see Audi engines making more HP then they claim, (if you are not on top of a mountain in 100 degree heat and 99% humidity).
      Oh, if you do a simple software upgrade, they really become beasts...
