  • If you want to clean the front bit of your Kenwood KMix Mixer or take it apart, the manual isn't much help. Hope this helps you! The bit we're dealing with is called the Planet Hub Assembly, by the way...
Note, when you get this part off, you may notice that the drive shaft has a broken o-ring, which I believe is an oil seal. You can buy new ones from the interweb here:

Also note, there is a steel pin that goes through the shaft, and may slide out place. It needs to be centralized to line up with the planetary gear when you reassemble.

Thanks for that. Any idea how to disassemble the head tilt mechanism? My head is stuck in the down position and the head release lever won't budge it. Cheers.

Your hand release lever is probably broken on the inside like mine is.. To release the tilt mechanism, you need to remove the top cover of the machine and release the mechanism using a screwdriver or long nose plier. It's on the inside on the right..
The hand release levers are usually available for sale as spare parts....
The difficult thing to do is once you've purchased the spare part to replace it, you have to remove the tilt mechanism because the back plate cover that holds the hand release lever won't let you simply swap them out.
I'm still struggling with this last part with mine too as the screw that I think holds the bottom and top of the machine together strips when I attempt to loosen it.

Small PSA on the hex key not fitting - it might be imperial or some such.

How did yours unscrew so easily? Mine isn't budging at all and I've used an electric and manual allen key. Need to lubricate the gears as it's making noise.

Just stick a butter knife in the rim and wiggle it

Did you manage to open it? Did lubricating the gears make a difference? What lubricant did you use?

@@edwardsiu4266 It did make a difference in my case. Noises vanished. I used lithium grease. Just take care to avoid applying it on the plastic parts inside.
