No man no problem. Weld it up. This may be the first time in history when the woman sent the man to the store while she welded on the hotrod. I love America. Thank you for your time
I started watching your channel back when you started the Roxy engine build, It doesn't feel like it's been that long ago but almost 10 yrs. We need a 10yrs anniversary episode with the star being Roxy.Just a thought.
A fantastic video and you guys are doing a beautiful job. I could not add 1 thing more. On a different note, it surprises me that Aaron can tolerate that garage door. With 106 degree temp., you are trying to cool the whole state of Texas!
I was a TIG welder for 30 years before switching to the healthcare field. I absolutely loved TIG welding and aluminum was my favorite! I loved it so much I worked for a race car shop in my off days welding up roll cages, 4 links, etc etc etc. I sure do miss it a ton! If you ever need a pro for any welding projects I’d be happy to help out just to get my hands dirty again 😊😊😊
Hey guys, I love the show! I've been watching you two for years. I've been an automotive technician for 30 years, and like you guys, I'm always learning. I would like to make a recommendation to Emily about welding. It is great to see you wearing the welding jacket and leather gloves, but I would highly recommend that you should have removed the flannel shirt you had tied around her waist while welding up the 4 link bars. I've seen flannel shirts catch fire with welding and grinding sparks. Just want to see you stay safe while doing what you love!
@flyingsparksgarage I installed that exact rear end kit and brakes last year and you appear to have the same problem I had. The studs have a shoulder preventing the rotor from fully seating against the axle hubs. The center currie logo hub of the axle should stick out from the rotor about an 1/8”. Your’s are flush indicating the rotors are held out on the stud shoulders from the hub. I had to drill the rotors to fit the shoulders so the rotor would go flush against the axle like it should and not be held out by the stud shoulders. Give that a look guys. Otherwise build is coming along. Looks killer!
I need to go order me some more decals and the "Please Drive Me" lanyard. I had them in my truck, the decals, ready to put on after a trip through the car wash, then a windows clean. Before I could get that done my truck was stolen. Thankfully it was recovered in 3 days. But they had taken everything out of the truck. Really glad to have my truck back, especially so quickly. Now I get to replace the lost stuff.
Keep up the good work and progress on the build. Remember that it is YOUR dreams that matter on this build. Make it meet your desires, not everyone else's ideals.
Ive watched some old time videos on the pinion angle. If the angle is pointed upward too much, compared to the up and down travel of the rear axle, It will cause a vibration ! So it does make sense ! I really like your 57 project ! Some day I hope that I will have the same project. Looking great !
This is my age coming out, but my childhood in the 70's dictate that one of two wheels should be the ONLY wheel on an old Hot Rod. Either the American Racing polished aluminum Dish Mag, or the tried and true - NUMBER ONE WHEEL for old Hot Rods, the one and only Cragar 5-Spoke Mag.
@@scottzehrung4829 right? Cragar still makes 5-spoke wheels both the old school traditional AND modern versions of it. My neighbor has an old Plymouth Satellite with Series 614C S/S Cragar's on 20". It looks pretty cool.
yup, yall is infectious and your content is entertaining as well as educational. Next check, gonna get me some Flying sparks apparel for my birthday. Peace, yall
You may have addressed this before, but you're painting the underside of the car as well, right ? I really like watching what you're doing on this build, it's going to be such a fun ride, I'm jealous.
Great work guys, make sure you watch DD Spped shop video about bleeding those rear calipers, I used the same kit and couldn’t get them bled correctly either
You have switched upper and lower shock bolts. And I think the calipers is going on the rear side. Look at handbrake leaver arm and the tab hole for the cable.
I agree with Aaron on the wheels. Wide Rally. That is a stock wheel style that I have loved since, well as long as I can remember. With the updated styles of Rally wheels you have some options. Stock sized slots. A bit bigger slots. Even really large slots. The slots that are slightly larger than stock might fit good with the body style.
Love the transformation y'all. Emily mentioned maybe rally wheels. Most of the easily obtainable ones are 5 on 4.75. The 5 on 4.5 is a typical Ford and Mopar size but there are certainly a ton of wheels for those too. Can't wait for the next installment on this car.
Hey y’all looking good, when tightening up the bolts use the car frame to help tighten, keeps fingers from getting pinched. GM lug pattern mid 4.75 full 5-5 , ford uses 4.5 more. Caddy calipers are used for most new 4 wheel disc now. Get to have parking brake .
Just a little tip... you could put the ground clamp on the vice somewhere so you don't have to keep taking it off and on the rods all the time.... the vice and the rods will be in contact with each other well enough to complete the circuit.
lol on the callipers being opposite im a mechanic for fed ex ground i have several ford f-59 chassis the from the factory have 2 right side calipers on the rear axle
I always thought 2 deg down is looking from the front of the car. So engine crank centreline is 2 deg down at the rear...same as diff, so the front is up 2 deg. giving it 2 deg. down in the rear.
Greatly enjoying the progress videos and the deeper dive into installation. Like I've written before, this reminds me of your early content. Great looking results!! Thanks for taking us along ~ Chuck . P.S. Rally wheels sound perfect for this!
You both have a lot of people everywhere who like y'all. Every project you work on, has a lot of us interested. That's the idea for you to always have building them. I'm 30+ years into mechanics. I don't know all I have to because the cars keep evolving. What people used to call a headache, is why they last really long times. Barring accidents and blatant negligence, there's a whole lot of mileage everybody can get. Teaching your wife is smart on your part. Most women see a problem and they usually end up ignored. Emily has a working knowledge of what goes on with any vehicle. She may not realize it, but I'd bet money she can diagnose a problem. She's worked on enough vehicles, she's comfortable enough now to weld and finish fab work. Lord knows you've got a lot of that happening with this car. It's refreshing to see a woman be comfortable and curious, at the same time. I didn't want to sound condiscending or negative. Thirty years give me a little leaway in saying this. God bless you and all of your family. Working with the kid, she's learning helpful skills she'll be able to use when she leaves home. I do wish y'all all the best.
Hello Emily....not trying to be "snarky", but be careful with your installation. Follow instructions carefully (review several times). Engineering is not about how something "looks." It is about design and function, so when they say to install washers on brake bracket bolts under the nuts, it's for a reason... not because "they look better under the head." In this case, there's no issue with two washers on your bracket bolts. But...now your side is different than Aaron's and that will always be there. Just advice that's all... keep up the fabulous work! You are very talented and I would love to have you wrench in my shop anytime! Looking forward to the finished product!
Love your channel! At 28:02 you asked where you should take Garfield the work truck. It's a looooong drive from Texas, but Garfield's the Cat's creator Jim Davis is from Indiana, so there are many Garfield character statues located in east-central Indiana near Muncie and throughout Grant County. Look up Garfield Trail Indiana in a search engine for more details. Grant County is also the birthplace of actor James Dean. I tried posting a direct link to the Garfield Trail in a comment when this video was first posted, but the comment never appeared.
I used what appears to be the same brake set up that you are using. My installation did not go as smooth. The first side I done ,the axle flange was 6-1/4 OD. The rotor was 6-1/8 ID. So it come back apart. When I checked the other side the Curry axel flange was 6-1/2” OD. When Emily was struggling with the rotor, the first thing I thought was the axel flange is to large. It all worked as it should for you. Keep up the good work
Nice work on the welding and painting! I was expecting a compliment from Aaron… Also, new format of uploading projects in motion works great! In fact, I think it’s probably better because you’re probably less inclined to edit out portions to make it fit, giving us a more realistic DIY experience.
Wheel advice to keep in mind. A friend has similar brake set up on his 69 charger and using 15” wheels. His wheels have a step up inside on the outer part of the rim. If that makes since? The wheel I.D. At this step is 13” I.D. The wheel hit the caliper. I modified the caliper bracket to get enough clearance to use his wheels. It’s close and not much clearance between wheel and caliper. So when choosing wheels and size keep this in mind. As stated in earlier post ,I have the same brake caliper or similar set up on my 46 Chevy truck. I have 18” rims and no clearance problems.
Please don't take this as a negative comment but I've never seen a 9" conversion with the Calipers on the front side of the rotors. Not knowing what kit you're installing it appears the direction of the pull for your e-brake is facing the wrong direction. It looks like your cable would have to activate from the rear of the frame. Please verify before you get too far along. If you're correct I apologize. I recently did a conversion to a 9" rear on a 1965 Buick Skylark and the calipers with e-brake were on the rear of the housing. Love your video's but hope you are correct.
I enjoy all of your content, but currently, the '57 is my favorite project. I really wanted to see you build up a whole car. I’d definitely buy one of those shirts!
If I had Garfield, I'd hit every show, cruise-in ....in Georgia. I learn a lot watching you two.
The welds look fine and the thing you can look at is you two did the work and you should be proud of that
New parts on a freshly painted chassis is so satisfying!
The shot of the axle flange with the black wheel studs looked pretty cool.

It absolutely is wrong the way they have it .
