Melfi already knows that Tony's in the Mafia, she knew right from the first episode, and she almost certainly knew about him before she first met him. In the pilot episode, Tony tells her that he doesn't get a lot of satisfaction from his work because of the RICO statutes. Later, after Tony tells Melfi about RICO, Melfi asks him, "Do you have any qualms about how you actually make a living?" The RICO statutes refers to the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, a federal law passed in 1970 with the intention of aiding law enforcement in going after and breaking the backs and influence of members of organised crime, especially that of the Italian American Mafia. Before 1970, it used to be incredibly difficult to go after high ranking mafiosi in a crime family i.e. the caporegimes, the consiglieri, the underbosses and, the biggest prizes of all, the bosses. Usually, law enforcement could only really target the low-status mafiosi in a crime family i.e. the soldiers and associates. In America, you cannot be prosecuted for simply being a mobster; that constitutes a “status crime”, and the Eighth Amendment protects against it. Furthermore, the more powerful a crime boss is, the less likely they are to be the one actually getting their hands dirty. To get around this problem, lawmakers developed the RICO Act. With its broad statues, RICO allows prosecutors to charge members of a long-running enterprise for their patterns of behaviour and connections to the organisation, and to subject them to extended criminal penalties and civil causes of action. Thanks to this, over the decades since 1970, we have a seen a slew of Mafia caporegimes, consiglieri, underbosses and bosses, the entire leaderships of Mafia crime families in some cases, being sent to prison for lengthy prison sentences.
If you haven't seen Six Feet Under, I think you'd enjoy it. Fantastically entertaining storytelling of family dynamics. And one of the best finales ever. I'd put it in my top 4 series.
I used to love Six Feet Under when I was younger. But when I got older and watched the series a couple more times, I realized what a mess it is and how sensational it was. It has a good cast and some decent stretches. But there’s quite a few TV dramas I’d place ahead of it. However, yes, it does have a standout finale.
Still setting the stage of the series theme... kindred family vs mob family & Tony struggling to manage them both separately. All of his denial that he’s a crappy dad keeps him from seeing his dad sucked too. Then add his mom is a nightmare psycho to boot!! 😮
Some fine writing and parallelism in this ep regarding Tony's memory of learning about his dad being mobbed up: Johnny Boy brings home ice cream after making bail, as a kind of reassurance to little Tony and Janice that everything is going to be okay. Then, at the end, a sweet moment between him and AJ. He's been wrestling with what's going to happen if his son ever finds out what he does for a living. AJ, in his own way, starts to explore all of this with his own rule breaking. And what does Tony do after seeing AJ discouraged by the consequences of rule breaking? He gets out the ice cream, just like his fawtha, Johnny Boy. He was a saint, Moses. 🤟
The show does explore nature vs nurture quite a lot when it comes to Tony. How much did his upbringing (or lack thereof) contribute to the person he is today? Does he have a conscience, a sense of morality, or is he just a straight sociopath? Tony's a puzzle for the audience to work out.
Athony jr. will remember in a good way how he and his dad had the ice cream sundaes 🍨. it will be a good memory of his dad, unlike the bad .memories Tony had about his dad. So yes i do give Tony a pass for eating an unhealthy meal after working out.

Melfi and Carmela both can get the cannoli
Get ready for Janice. She's a piece of work. Lorraine Bracco started her career as a fashion model in Paris.
Its called a shit sandwich. Good news bad news then cautious optimism

I'm pretty sure White Rabbit was in The Game. Not sure if it was in the trailer.
