My first comment on YT in a long time: this is the kind of content I want to see more of. A misunderstood tennis genius and an abrasive journalist talk it out, get to know eachother and seemingly make a social media feud into a friendship. I've always said this about Kyrgios, he's got feelings and shows them on the court. There's nothing wrong with it. He's the kind of guy you argue with on the court but can take a beer with after the match is over. I'm the same way, like many other sports enthusiasts, a game is a game, when it's over we're all friends.

Kyrgios is interesting because he personifies something that a lot of spectators feel is lacking in today's sport - maverick talent and personality. You won't always get commitment but you'll almost certainly be entertained... so Kyrgios ultimately is value for money.

Great interview. Always a fan of Kyrgios, so seeing this side of him is no surprise. Shame we don't get to hear more about all the great things he does for others outside the tennis world.
Thank you Piers for showing the "whole" side of Nick. As a fellow Australian, I often find myself defending Nick against a world that is very much set against him. He has always been a rough cut diamond, so much ability perhaps so little patience. I hope your interview will help to see the true Nick, the one where we understand his faults and applaud his achievements (past, present and hopefully future).

When not playing just for himself, he gives 1000%. This was the most telling moment of what his real character was like.

I’m from Canberra. I can attest to the fact that he is a normal guy who spends a lot of time doing things for others. He is who he is and that is what has made him what he is today. One of the most naturally talented tennis players on Earth that just hasn’t been able to be at 100% very many times.

I’m in Australia and have always liked Nick. I’ve been exasperated and disappointed in him at times but have still continued to support him. I’m so glad he’s found such happiness now. Hopefully it won’t be long before we see him back on court. Great interview 👍👏❤️

As an Australian growing up watching Kyrios, I've always stuck up for him saying he is a good person with a lot of attitude.
I truly hope to see this fella win a grand slam one day. Supremely talented, has all the physical and skillset qualities needed - just needs to lock that mind in for a few weeks to get it over the line!! Legend of the game regardless, so entertaining

Yeah that was Dawn Fraser who told Nick to go back to where he came from and she said it publicly and openly to the press... She’s such a dinosaur but slipped up because that’s the talk that goes on in private away from the spotlights. I dated an elite Aussie athlete 20 years ago and was horrified at how white and racist Tennis and other sport was in Australia. I feel for Nick as he was scapegoated by Australian tennis as though he didn’t deserve to be there. I wonder how much this contributed to his mental health. Being bullied in the workplace can be lethal.
He's been bullied all over the world. Him and his partner were told at gunpoint to get off a practice court in Atlanta when he was there to help the kids whose friends had just been shot at the Atlanta High School. He was fined $25,000 for spitting towards a fan who had called him a f...g hunchbacked monkey.

There's a part of every person that's ever been in the spotlight, which we don't see. We're sometimes quick to judge them harshly and yet, don't know the struggles they may have. This interview was great at highlighting that and gaining a better insight into who Nick Kyrgios really is.
