On the one hand - I'm really glad we have the vlog brothers and all associated projects.
      on the other
There aren't enough techno marvels possible to deliver us the promised land so long as the economic and political systems they're introduced into still incentivize and reward bad behavior - TB didn't explode in Lesotho for no reason.
      TB isn't a disease, it's a symptom.

My dad just got tested positive for TB. Thankfully, we're immigrants in a first world country and have access to quality healthcare and medicine. I didn't panic at the news because even though I don't know everything there is to know about TB, I've been watching vlogbrothers for a while and thanks to your unending efforts to bring awareness and change to TB's needless death rate, I've gleaned enough information about this disease to know that my dad will be ok. My first thoughts weren't "oh no this is terrible!" but rather "oh yeah, this is the curable disease John Green is obsessed with!" I'm glad I can say "curable" with confidence given how lucky we are to have diagnostics and medicine available. Thank you John and Hank for your philanthropy and DFTBA!

Gun violence in schools specifically is unique to the US. Here in Australia, my kids' rural secondary school only had one fence - the big one at the back of the footy oval to stop the ball going on the road. The kids competed for who could kick a ball over that fence, of course.
The rest of the campus had no fences, and the security cameras only operated outside school hours - they were a security service to protect the buildings from vandalism, not to monitor anything the kids did during school time.
Most of the civilised world also seems to pay school teachers more than the US does.

This video made me cry. I'm so filled with hope, knowing that there are still good people who are fighting their hardest to make the world a better place. I'm in college studying ecology so that I can make a difference in the world too. Thank you for being such a great inspiration and reminding us all to never lose hope in the world.

I was mindlessly scrolling looking for emotional closure on my day, and then, I found it. “The world will change,” with this nuanced type of hope. I should have known it would be here. Thanks. ❤

My grandfather, fresh out of medical school in the middle of WWII, was drafted. (Or maybe he volunteered - versions of the family lore don't all agree.) The army knew he was a doctor and asked if he had a specialty. He didn't, but he knew there was research being done in Colorado and thought that was a good place to go, so he said, "Thoracic diseases." They assigned him to the TB research lab in Valley Forge, PA.
When he retired from the position he spent most of his postwar life at (as a professor of medicine), he wrote a history of TB up to that point. It's hard to find, because it was meant for a lay audience but way too niche for a big publisher, but you can get a copy through ILL - "Captain of Death: the Story of Tuberculosis" by Thomas M. Daniel.
He's not nearly so sharp as he once was. But I'm sure he would still understand and be proud to hear how much has changed in "the story of tuberculosis" since then. Thank you, Nerdfighteria, for taking up the torch. The next chapter will be brighter still.
