- Not everything goes according to plan... A real treasure chest containing 1-2 million dollars worth of jewels and gold was hidden somewhere within the rocky mountains. The Forrest Fenn treasure hunt was one of the biggest, if not, the biggest treasure hunts of the 21st century.
So many individuals took part in trying to decipher a poem left by eccentric millionaire art dealer, Forrest Fenn, that claimed it would lead you directly to a treasure chest.
Follow me down the rabbit hole as we experience some of the highs and lows of a remarkable hunt that took place over the last 10 years.

I feel bad for Forrest. He wanted people to have some fun and it all went wrong. He was stalked, threatened and someone almost kidnapped his grandchild. Everyone seemed to hate him at the end. Even when he died, they kept criticizing him. I’m glad we know his story. R.I.P Forrest Fenn.
Forest was an entrepreneur, he wasnt born yesterday, and I am sure he anticipated that some crazy and downright evil things would happen in a chase like this. So I think it went about as one could expect. It is simply wrong to say "all went wrong" - thousands of people had a blast even though they never found it. Forrest seemed to have fun too, at least the first part of the decade. But it is also true that Fenn said he regretted it in the end. Most likely he felt that way because his family, that did not share the treasure hunting hobby but who were of course also affected by the stalkers and lawsuits, were too sick of it. Thats why he canceled it. Thats why the chest is now back in "a vault in Santa Fe", in the words of writer Jack Stuef.

2020 was a shit year, but remember: Halfway through, Forrest Fenn's treasure was found, and just before the year ended, Satoshi was found too.
The zodiac killer code was solved as well last year.
It's almost as though people had a bounty of free time to solve these things

I’m honestly so happy that Forrest got to see his treasure found before he passed. That must have been such a cool moment for him.
Yeah, you dont see anything odd with that? Treasure is found after exactly 10 years, then just a month later Fenn dies in his home with a signed "do not resuscitate" order.

@@mcbamm5683 If a person is contemplating suicide due to illness, he is unlikely to have a time frame flexible enough to allow him to wait for a finder. Fenn once said it may well be take thousands of years before anyone would find it.
I think I could watch him talk about balloons and be perfectly content with it
But it HAS to have the intro song. That song is like a siren’s call, once you hear it you’re immediately attracted to it.

Buzzfeed Unsolved had an episode where they tried looking for this treasure. Amusingly, the *first* place they *ruled out* as unlikely to have the treasure was, in fact, the actual hiding place.

Masterful work my friend. What a touching human story. Such a shame that some people decided to corrupt and ruin something intended to be a beautiful, fun, and wholesome experience. Jack seems like a solid guy and I’m glad he found it.

Is there anything specific you are thinking of when you determine that Jack Stuef is a solid guy? Was it perhaps the fact that he went on Russian TV to bully Sarah Palins children for being handicapped? Because that is pretty much the only thing we really know about Jack.

It’s honestly horrible would go far as to kidnap someone for just a small treasure. Treasure hunts are not about the reward, but rather the experience you got from it. And I’m really glad the majority of the community came and congratulated Jack. Hopefully he and his family are alright

I always try to watch these on my TV, and let me tell you, its worth it.

My dad was super into the idea of his treasure when I was younger, he's really into stories about stuff like this and would tell me about Forrest's treasure all the time. He was so happy when the treasure was found because it meant one of his favorite stories finally had an end.
I just found out who Forest was about 3-4 hours ago and then this video was posted.....just after I decided it was too much reading to learn about the treasure hunt. And then bam. A literal answer to my prayers. A gift from the universe.

It was a real good hunt ! As someone who followed the chase for years (sadly only getting to go searching once.) It was a real feeling of relief when the chest was finally found!

Thanks to this guy, my family went to Yellowstone. A month too late to go looking, but I'm still grateful that we went to see that gorgeous place. I hope we are able to go back.

Yellowstone Park is a national nature park. If you want to learn more about it I would say to look up their website and read from there.
Even if he doesn't say exactly where it was, would be nice if he explained how the poem was solved.

I was hoping he'd say the reason he didn't want the location and puzzle answers to be revealed was because he left something in the place of the treasure for the next person to find.
Honestly I woulda preferred that. Few things rankle like an unsolved puzzle. See the saga of "billion to one". That one was solved and revealed, though.

My dad actually took me and my brother to Yellowstone National Park to try to find it. Fun vacation and disappointing search.

I spent an ungodly amount of time researching locations and decoding his book (bought a physical copy) to go looking for it myself, took a break from it for a few months and next thing I knew someone had found it. 😂
Edit: Can't believe I was right about where it most likely was. Only way to know for sure was to learn about Fenn's earlier life by reading his memoir. It was fun while it lasted. :)
I know you want to keep the area a secret I assume. I'm from Wyoming and have a clue about where it could have been and it would just be cool to see if I'm even close. I haven't read his book but just from growing up here and the poem I have an idea just never thought that it was found in my backyard so to speak:)

About 2 years ago, me and my dad went to Colorado with one of his friends to where he thought the treasure was. Even though I thought he was crazy the entire time, it's one of the best memories I have with him.

Thank you for posting this, as I personally would have never heard about it otherwise. It sounds like it was a fun treasure hunt while it lasted and congratulations to the man who actually found the treasure.
Despite all of the nonsense and horrible people involved in this story, I’m glad that Forrest lived to know that his treasure had been found and was in the possession of someone who played the game fair and square, who respected the place that was so special to him, and who valued privacy and safety over fame. Rest In Peace, sir, and good game.

Every time my man makes a video I get so excited for that intro and what its in store
I just want to highlight and express appreciation for your final thoughts here. Too often today the anger and negativity that overshadows our conversations, comes from a relative minority of those involved. Most people don't harbor such ill will for others like that. My hope for all of us is that we do not judge the many for the actions (or words) of the few. Also that we do not form hard and unchangeable opinions of someone based on someone else's depictions of them.
