A brilliant video, seriously. I really appreciate how Mark Summers presents reality, not sugar coating anything, but also acknowledging that this can make some people uncomfortable, that it's not what they expect to hear when visiting Jamestown. Well, history is sometimes be tough - but that just makes it all the more important to learn it and learn from it.

Awesome presentation! This is what should be taught in our schools. Especially the brotherhood and sisterhood that once existed between the races.

Came looking for a quick Jamestown video for my homeschooled 5th grader, stayed spellbound listening. What a fantastic guide!

Thank you for uploading this. I haven't finished it yet, but this is phenomenal. I can't wait to visit and experience this tour myself. This history is a huge part of why I, a Black American, came to Virginia.

You can call ahead and find out what days Mark Summers is working (the historian seen in this video). He is pretty awesome and does several other tours as well.

Who is this guide-person?? I don't think I breathed for the entire video and all I could do is just cover my face and look through my fingers, occasionally uttering, "Oh, noooo..." Does Mark Summers author any history books? He is absolutely phenomenal. Thank you so much for posting this. My mind has exploded. He is an exceptional teacher. Holy cow.

I was thinking the same thing on the books. He needs to write a book if he hasn’t already. He is awesome. He Does several different tours besides this one as well.

What a wonder series. I appreciate both videos. I hope he will dig into more history of this town and the people brought to our shores. I would love if he did a third part including John Gowen, Margaret Cornish Sweat, and Robert Sheppard. I look forward to seeing this in person

A key missing ingredient in this speech… the Angolans he speaks of are geographically from modern day Louisiana. The same Angola that is one of the largest penitentiaries in the world. That’s where the term “sold down the river” comes from. The Mississippi River is the original Nile. I’ve lived and worked on the mouth of the Mississippi River for many years while serving in the Navy. The same system is being used today, with different entities benefiting.
