    A great listen: Scott Brick narrating "The Firm." Frank Muller is simply amazing. And Patrick Fraley, one hell of a nice guy and great teacher.

    Davina Porter is absolutely stellar with the Outlander series and nails every character. She makes you feel that you are living alongside the characters and they are an extension of your family. She is a gift to the listener. The same is true for David Chandler immersing you in the life of Cork O’Connor in the series by William Kent Krueger. Someone else took over for a couple of books in the series and I ended up reading those books instead. I was a little late to the audiobook world and learned early on that the narrator made all of the difference between me listening or reading a book. It’s amazing what these people do to make the stories come alive and keep you engaged. Hats off to all those talented people. I really appreciate you.

    Very interesting and informative! Audiobook narration is something I've been personally interested in, so this is a great assortment to get a sense of the variety of ability, style, etc.

    Very interesting. I know within a few seconds whether or not I can listen to a narrator. All of these narrators are very talented so it would be a pleasure. I sometimes struggle with a male narration that I feel is more suited to a female or the reverse. Thanks for this peek at a fascinating profession.

    Two that I love, Luke Daniels and January LaVoy. Luke does the Iron Druid series and January does a lot of Nora Roberts' novels.

    I like female voices more so than Male. Unless it's a story from Homer, or something like Dracula I prefer to listen to female voices because they're softer and pleasant in my opinion. Especially since I listen to a lot of historical books and less story books.

    Thank you for doing this video on these female narrators. I'm looking for a female now. And, I would like to perhaps use you on a doc. in the near future. I have worked with Peter Thomas for 20 years.

      JoshTheBoss With some practice, you can do it. Honestly, nobody is born with the talent. A lot of the people in our business have acting training. I don't, but I get work. It's really just about practicing. Read a book aloud and with emotion. You'll probably surprise yourself.

    I realise that you are promoting your business but the only decent narrator in your samples is Raven Kane. The others are too 'American'. A more neutral accent tending towards the British accent is the most absorbing for the listener.

    • @pvtrichter88
      @pvtrichter88 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bundy that's usually referred to as a mid-atlantic accent !! but each interpreter will use his/ her own style !! To add a particular spice to the story!!

    • @ymousanon4615
      @ymousanon4615 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Bundy correct, this video, its like spam. I am an American male but I prefer british accents. And my nationalities Italian, Polish and Russian shows you im not biased. Also a prefer female readers to males. I love Librivox and Internet Archive which are non profits. Its free and my hats off to all the volunteer readers narrate for the love of it, gratis, for free. I can't believe these jerks who write a review really disrespectful of readers. I always reply then why don' you go buy it or ok why don't you read a few chapters and we can hear your splendid, utterly magnificent voice. Librivox is too democratic though, there's a group of American males who seem to hog a lot of the reading. I also like readers who have a foreign accent.....I am so thankful for Librivox and Internet Archive(which has all sorts of media in the public domain) because like many of us these days there is no way we can afford to buy audiobooks either cd or mp3 downloads. Sandra G is one of my favorite readers and she is blind. god bless her.

      What an absurd thing to say. The voice SHOULD depend on the material being read. If its a British novel, then of course.

    • @dicehands
      @dicehands 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Really bad take here. The "ONLY" decent narrator? Narrator voices are subjective. To say that others are "too american" is really ignorant.

  • @ItsJakeTheBrake
    @ItsJakeTheBrake 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    So just americans? Roy Dotrice is better than all of them put together...actually, he does more voices than all of these people put together...

  • @RhinoRider2006

    Scott Brick, over rated. Several authors I do not listen to any longer ( since they picked up Scott). Now Kyle Mills has picked him up for the Mitch Rapp books. I stopped listening several times. could not get into the book. If he does not bring George Guidell back, that will be another author I drop. I really like the Rapp character but Scott really cannot do the different personalities in the story.

  • @chickenschnitzel
    @chickenschnitzel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What kind of horse's *ss condemns American accents out of hand? If a book is American, it's impossible to justify a British narrator. Shakespeare's spoken English was a lot closer to today's American than it was to today's British, so let's put a lid on that snobbish nonsense once and for all. If you can't take the American accent, don't listen to American books. Sound and sense are one.
    For the professional actors and narrators, audiobooks are a lot of work for not a lot of money.
    I dislike having the marketplace flooded with clumsy Librivox-style product. Trained, experienced pro's dare the high-wire act of feeding their families from performance. They should not be crowded out of the marketplace by well-meaning amateurs who risk nothing but their spare time.

    • @EpicReign
      @EpicReign 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      dickrodstein It is definitely a lot of work for not enough money. A lot of us just love doing what we do though. Glad you appreciate it.
      Librivox is ok. Everything they do is Public Domain work, and it takes extra work to do those, unless you go through Librivox. It requires you taking the story and changing something in it, then publishing it on Amazon, before you can narrate it for Audible. Librivox is the short cut. Although, there are some people that mean well and are just...
