Timperley is a village in the north of England. You’ll find blue plaques all over places like Manchester and London. They commemorate important people and events. But most people couldn’t tell you how to find this blue plaque or even what it’s for. It’s surprising because Timperley only has one blue plaque, and it just might be the most important blue plaque in the country. Today, we’re going to try to find it. But we’re going to take the scenic route. Next stop the Peak District.

    What a brilliant vid/documentary.
Though I'm Manchester born and bred, and whilst I knew historically of this event, with some shame, I didn't know anymore, until now.
More than familiar with Timperley, I'm in Flixton, so not knowing this was shocking, more familiar with its other at one time famous resident, now immortalised in bronze.
The story involving Ewan McColl, has upped the ante, as also Benny's time in Cheetham Hill, I went to school with a Lisa Rothman in Cheetham Hill, early 70's, I wonder?
I will certainly be having a look at the blue plaque now!

Thanks. Only one corner of Timperley triangle I haven’t been to yet. You’ll have to take me sometime.

In his later years Benny was still campaigning,. He was at the forefront of ensuring a footbridge was provided when the level crossings in Altrincham were closed upon the opening of the 'fly-over'.

Brilliant. I heard something about it but couldn’t find any details. I would have included it. Thanks for adding it.

I was at a CND conference in the late 80s. Benny gave me a ticking off because I supported Non Violent Direct Action & he didn't!
Back home, I had a moan to my mother about some 'old man from Timperley called Benny'.
    Mother explained who he was!
(I grew up in Sale, went to St Hugh's in Timperley)

Interesting. I wonder what he considered the mass trespass. Sounds like non violent direct action.
