I Bought my Smith Corona M1903A3 last year for $479 at a gun shop. I restored it to near original condition Original barrel dated 2/43. Wonder if mine would be graded service grade since it has a mirror bore?
@@JonBoyMilitaria Downside is the original owner took off the park which obliterated some of the barrel stamps only the SC upper part of the bomb and the 2 3 remain.
Brother! You are not missing a screw on your M1903A3. The rear screw that holds your lower and receiver is on the bottom behind the trigger. All M1903s to include the earlier ones were bored through the receiver to easily cut the bolt screw thread. I own a Rock Island Arsenal M1903 made in 1918 with a Springfield Armory 1942 barrel refurbished for early WWII.
Beautiful rifles! If I'm correct, the SA cartouche on the first Garand buttstock means that it was rebuilt (mainly consisted of replacing damaged or outdated parts rather than "rebuilding" the rifles) by Springfield after the war. This was most likely when it received the postwar rear sights and the 1945 barrel. My Garand has a 3/45 receiver which wouldve originally had lock bar sights, but has the postwar ones. This was the most common change that was made to these rifles after the war since it meant replacing the then obsolete sights with the newer updated variant. I think it's so cool to see those rebuild cartouches on these rifles. Really tells a significant part of the rifles service. I was so excited for this vid and you definitely didn't let me down. I should really get an 03 or another Garand, or two, or three. Haha
oh and your not missing a receiver screw on the 03a3 the two screws come in from the bottom. the bolt disassembly is a little tricky. not needed at this time
Bolt disassembly on the O3 and O3A3's is exactly the same as the KAR98K you just don't need to disassemble the rest of the bolt. Probably should invest in replacement firing pins since you know Murphy happens and those are made for quick firing pin replacement.
The stock on the first M1 Garand is a Danish Return. The serial number on the butt stock is a typical for the Danish Returns as is the circle cutout on the pistol grip. The Danish Hjemmevaernet (Home Guard) had discs installed in the bottom of the grip to identify the unit to which it was assigned.
