  • Medicare has its own process and numbers assigned to providers who want to accept Medicare assignments. The most important difference is the issuance of a PTAN once a provider is accepted by Medicare to participate. Providers can have more than one PTAN associated with them. Watch the video to learn more about Medicare PTAN, including where a provider can go online to access this information.
    ABOUT MY CHANNEL:
Hi! I’m Jennifer. After working in the medical field, in many different capacities over the last 15 years, I have learned a lot about where medical practice owners go wrong in running their businesses. I created this channel to try and assist medical practice owners from making the same mistakes as their colleagues. I want to see the private practice world of medicine grow and thrive. In my opinion, medicine has become too institutionalized, creating a lot of unnecessary obstacles and demands.

Thank you for watching and for the question. You should have received it in the mail by now. They will send a letter with it. I would call to follow up to ensure there isn’t something else they are waiting for before sending.

Thank you for the video. I just found it. If a new practice (non-profit) is just getting started and hasn't yet employed providers, can they get the process rolling on getting a PTAN associated with their group NPI when they don't have individual NPIs yet?

Yes as long as the medical director and owner information is available, you should be able to initiate the group enrollment. Thank you for watching and good luck!!

Hello jenifer , if provider is having new primary practice office, how to change the demographic information in all payers in Massachusetts state and the existing location to secondary location

    • @navigatingthebusinessofmed8251

This can be quite time consuming as there is not an easy way to do this. Your insurance contracts will have instructions on how to update this type of information and all can be different. You will want to reference these and also contact your Provider Relations Representative at a payer, if you have one. You can also check the payer websites under “For Providers” for other resources. Thank you for watching and the question!

Hi Jennifer, how many numbers, letters, or combination of the two are PTANs? I read they are typically 6 digits.

That is correct. They are generally 6-digits and are only numbers, no letters. I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and for the question!

I'm seeing two letters and then 6 numbers.

Hello Jennifer if I am an Independent Phlebotomist that travels to facilities and homes, do I need a PTAN to reimbursement of travel?
    Thank you

Or how would I bill for services

    • @navigatingthebusinessofmed8251

I don't believe you can independently bill Medicare or insurance for your services and would probably need to contract with a doctor's office or something along those lines to get paid by them. The only code billed for "venipuncture" is 36415, which is a very low reimbursement (a few dollars), if paid at all. Same with other "specimen handling" or collection fees. I apologize that I am not well-versed in this situation as most phlebotomists are employees of the clinics I have worked with, not independent contractors. Here is a link by a MAC that may help you further on the travel question too: www.wpsgha.com/wps/portal/mac/site/claims/guides-and-resources/travel-allowance-for-phlebotomy-and-specimen-collection/!ut/p/z1/jVHBToQwEP0WDxxLu0vcEG9oVLKBaExWsRdTukNhUzqkLRD9eqt7MlFkbjN5b-a9N5TTinIjpk4J36EROvSvfPf2mOe7fJOy4mFbMpaVd8_JbVpcp08b-rIASNh9QvkaPvujMraOvwDgy-v3_x0ICWxteVMqygfhW9KZBmmlxu4IjghzJBYcjlaCo5W3YgJNhNY4CyOBNGjJ0Gqo0WP__g13A8iuB0Mkag3yK-dggi_IOMe4wojSWJ9_lpk6SYNiCw1YsPFow7j1fnBXEYvYPM-xQlQaYol9xH6jtOg8rX4i6dAfDtVHkbPTpZ6K7OITOfld5A!!/dz/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/#

Would a provider need 2 PTAN # if they are working for 2 separate employers?

    • @navigatingthebusinessofmed8251
      @navigatingthebusinessofmed8251  ปีที่แล้ว

It depends if they are 2 different entities/businesses. If they are 2 different, unrelated businesses/practices, then yes they would need a PTAN for each business they are operating and registered at Medicare. Each business would have to be registered with Medicare too.
