You can absolutely get coal like that! Much of the coal mined here in Ohio was surface (or near surface) level deposits. It would have been mined similar to this, or most often using a Dragline like Big Muskie or El Capitan. AEP used to have a massive operation near McConnelsville that was reclaimed into the AEP Re-Creation lands once they'd mined out the deposits. It was an area around 60k acres. The spot at your parents is likely an exposed surface seem of coal. Lots of that around where I grew up. If you notice yellow foam on the surface of nearby streams it's a pretty good bet that it is coal. The sulfur leeches out and causes the foam (along with problems lol). But yeah, dig it up wash it, and use it for blacksmithing :)
I’m live here in Missouri. I’m close to a town called bavier mo. There used to be an old coal mine there, my grandfather worked there! The mine has been shut down for a long time since epa back in the day noticed high amounts of suffer in the coal.
Company I work for mines coal that way. Actually that bench is exactly like the open pit coal mine. They load into truck at the pit it hauls it over to a conveyor which transports it to the plant.
I love this game. I am an IRL heavy equipment operator and this game simulates the machines and digging the most accurate out of any other game I've played except for simulators that cost tens of thousands of dollars! I agree with you about the debt charges being way too frequent, maybe if they adjusted it to take every 5-10 mins it wpuld be more enjoyable and not feel so rushed.
Hooray for a new season - been anticipating this one. Thanks for the video! That cha-ching sound every minute had me stressing at first. Got my loan payed off asap because of it though so I suppose it served its purpose? I only did the loader on loan, mined a bunch of that huge coal seam to pay it off, then got my rock truck. In retrospect I should have gotten the truck with credit too but it worked out in the end. Looking forward to more!
you may want to set up a loading area for your dumper. pulling the dumper into a small area that's lowered by a block or two will help speed up loading and reduce build up of spillage if you put blocks under the truck.
I'm late to the video but, can you dig into the seam you are working so that you can get the truck in there and then can you get the loader up on the plateau? That would make loading the truck easier? Did you play gold rush? I don't recall seeing any videos from you on that. Boy, I would play this if they could port over to ps4. Looks like fun!
Yes, you could dig in a place for the truck if you wanted. I did play Gold Rush a long time ago and streamed it on Twitch so unfortunately it's lost to time.
Yep and maybe some day we'll get equipment to do strip mining. There are some facing excavators in this patch but they're locked behind progression so it will be a while before I can use them. Thanks for watching!

I love how they called it the iron bank.

I believe there will be more options in a future update for how you want to progress or take on debt. Thanks for watching!
@@KerboOnYT I think i did see some teaser pic about changing the way we start the game with loans and stuff, yeah!
Looking forward to the new season!

It's crazy how fast the money goes away. I also got out of debt as quickly as I could so I can work with no pressure. Thanks for watching!
Well I'm catching up on the series. Just binged watched the first season while playing cities skylines till 2 am! Love it so far

I did just that as the debt was reduced and money wasn't evaporating so quickly. Be sure to check out episode 2 on Thursday!
@@KerboOnYT looking forward to it. i'm about to continue on with my own.
Niiiiiice
I know its an old video but I'd have dug a small trench for the dump truck to ride into to better load it.
best map to start on, wish they would add more info to the tutorial
The company I work for has provided engineers/conductors/trainmen to load coal at the Wyoming mines, there are spots where the seams are exposed.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing
in germany there is a huge lignite (brown coal) mine. dont know if that was an exposed seam though

Ah, that's why I don't recall, I don't seem to watch twice, cause my smart TV doesn't have a twitch app. Please keep this series going!
@@RVJimD Much more to come! Thanks for watching
How do you get the black pick axe and other tools on the side of your hot bar
That's how the UI looked 6 months ago. There have been a lot of updates since then and things work differently
Rock and Stone... errr wait...
It's called strip mining. But love the videos keep em coming
