    I have those boots! Got them on sale over Christmas. I prefer a narrower toe for looks, but the wide square is comfy. They are my best dress boots when I have to walk a lot. I think mine have lemonwood.

    Just bought my second pair of R Watson boots. I could not be happier. I have the beige sueded pythons and some grey full quill ostrich boots. May go back to my local dealer and get some natural lizards they had soon. Thea boots are very comfortable and yet feel very sturdy. I’ve had boots from just about all the major brands and the R Watsons are becoming my favorite.

    Like the boot. Would be nice to see it in a narrower toe like snip or 7 toe.

    Once you went to POV that color change was very significant. Definitely needs a narrower toe, but that holds true for any exotic boot in my opinion.

    I like these boots a lot! I prefer them in snip toe but the hide and pattern look fantastic! 🦎

    Texas bootmaker here. Cowboy boots were never intended to be walked in, much less worked in on foot. Also, the wetness of northern Rockies from rain and snow will destroy boots faster than any other issue. Wood pegs are meant to be worn in boots used in the American Southwest and Mexico where there is occasional rain. My suggestion is to use brass nails in Montana.

      I wonder what cowboys and folks in general used to wear back in the day. I realize that most of these boots we love are dress boots. Way too fancy for work and would get destroyed real quick. What is the footwear of choice in rough climates like northwest, Midwest, and how does that differ from what people choose to wear down in the southwest?

      That is why I add a sole saver. Or buy with a rubber sole.

      I just built boots with a Montana boot maker. They don't use brass nails at all and would never consider it

      @@JeremiahCraig so they use lemon pegs in any type of sole?

    • @danziegner
      @danziegner 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JeremiahCraig I only use lemonwood pegs in my boots. But, brass nails are used in the best custom bespoke shoes and almost all boot repair shops. There are valid reasons why R Watson is using nails in their boots, and so does every other boot manufacturer sold at Carter’s.
      Tecovas changed the boot market. They found a sales niche of the $300-$500 boot. All other boot manufacturers are competing in that market now, as the higher end retail boots sales have completely disappeared. Even Lucchese, who I worked for back in San Antonio when making only high end boots, competes in that market. They all use nails.
      Glad that you are delving more into custom.

    Jeremiah, if you get the chance, I’d like to see you in a pair of Ariat Downtown Western boots. I’m thinking about getting a pair, but they’re only 10 inches high, and I’d like to see what they look like in jeans. Thx.

    I’ve had more lemonwood pegs break and fall out than I’ve had brass nails back out. As long as you aren’t constantly getting your leather-soled exotic boots soaked all the time (you shouldn’t) you will be fine. You’ll probably need a resole by the time you have any issues with reasonable use anyway.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's because you need two rows of lemon wood pegs to actually do it correctly

    That’s what I’m struggling with buying online. Different brands require different sizing, and then the toe shape appears to drastically alter size and fitment.
    I need some exotics in black with cutter toe but can’t decide between the Varanus salvator or water monitor (lizard) or black alligator or cayman.

    Love the skin, hate the toe. I mean, it looks like a spatula. Congrats, you have spatula for feet.
    The wide square toe trend can't end soon enough.
