    Very nice bit of kit! I have been thinking about upgrading my jointer to one with spiral cutter - such a better finish than the straight knives!

      The Old Plank Woodworks thank you. We couldn’t be happier with this machine. Seriously makes me smile every time I use it. No joke! And yes if your upgrading, definitely consider a spiral cutter head 👍🏻

    Apart from a few different knobs and most notably the fence setup that is different, this machine looks very very similar to if not the same machine as the older Hammer A3 models up until 2009.

    Awesome machine. Have you needed to turn or replace any cutters yet?

    Just about to fire mine up for the first time !
    Was wondering how much adjustment was required on yours ?
    So far as I have checked, everything seems square and no adjustment required, hopefully this means no lengthy adjustment or calibration.

      David Beacom we only needed minor adjustment during the set up process but all is easy to do and check by following the instructions provided. I hope you are enjoying the machine!

    Hi I’m just in the process of setting up a workshop and I’ve spoken to a few colleagues that said to stay away from this machine and go with a Sedgwick Tesla cutter are you still satisfied with this machine now you’ve had it for quite awhile

    • @stevetruby8865
      @stevetruby8865 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's not really a fair comparison when you bear in mind the Sedgwick is at least twice the price of this machine, yes of course they're even better but i've researched a lot recently and as an entry level planer thicknesser I believe this is a good choice at a good price.

      Very pleased with this machine and use it consistently. Excellent quality for the price and I’d definitely recommend it.

    hey there, just thinking about buying one. updated thoughts after a year?

  • @markfday
    @markfday 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Purchased this machine last summer, can’t say enough good things about it. The digital height gauge Axminster provided didn’t fit the spindle so had to be machine out to size and required me to drill a small hole in the casting to accept the roll pin on the back of the gauge, I assume you had to go through this process as well Jamie to make the height gauge fit?

      Mark Day glad to hear you share our thoughts! We didn’t have that problem no, so maybe it had been sorted somewhere between us gutting the machines.

    Great review thanks. Contemplating one of these and just can't decide if the larger 129 is worth it over the 107. Doesn't seem to have that much bigger capacity but is quite a chunk more expensive. Did you consider the smaller one?

    • @ateliercabinetmakers8661
      @ateliercabinetmakers8661  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fergus Macdonald I didn’t consider the 107 version as the bigger the better for us! We often thickness boards and max the width out so would recommend the larger version if you have the space. Hope this helps!

      Yeah makes sense if you always need the extra capacity. I just can't quite decide if I do or not! Thanks.

    Hi, I’ve just purchased the AT107PT are there any tips on setting up? Cheers Steve

      Phenrica Wood Stuff the machines are supplied with excellent instruction manuals with colour photos and great explanations from Axminster. I suggest reading through once before and then following again whilst setting up the machine. I hope you enjoy using your new machine as much as we do!

    Hi there quick question about the machine how long you have the machine running with out stopping I bought the Axminister AT107pt version and after running 3-4 boards through thicknesser it stops I have to wait till it’s cooldawn and start again I contacted Axminister the send a Enginer he said the belt was lose he tightened but I am having the same problem do you have same issue,cheers

    • @ateliercabinetmakers8661
      @ateliercabinetmakers8661  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adnan Lami that is an interesting problem, I’ve not experienced anything like this with ours. We can use it for a long time feeding lots of wide oak boards through the thicknesser and it never complains. Make sure you have sufficient dust extraction fitted as this will draw air through the machine and keep clear of chippings. Sorry I can’t be of more help

    Have you ever had any snipe from this machine?

    • @ateliercabinetmakers8661
      @ateliercabinetmakers8661  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin Angus we have experienced a small amount of snipe when thicknessing, but this is when thicknessing long heavy boards. We always allow extra length where possible in case of this. The surfacing tables can be easily adjusted to ensue no snipe when surface planing.

      Did have any problems with adjusting the input and output tables when you got? Thanks for replying to my last question.

    • @ateliercabinetmakers8661
      @ateliercabinetmakers8661  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Colin Angus no we haven’t had any problems with table adjustment. It’s very simple to do and well explained in the instruction manual. The thicknessing table has a small out feed support which again is easily adjusted. Jamie

    Thanks I've got the planer now, the cutter block is excellent but the rest of the machine isn't

    • @ateliercabinetmakers8661
      @ateliercabinetmakers8661  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      paul113757 what do you dislike about the rest of the machine? We’ve been using ours for 6 months now and have had no problems. Very happy with the overall build, quality and function of the planer/thicknesser.

    • @paul113757
      @paul113757 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, first of all the tables were out of alignment, not much of a problem I thought I will set them up. As I loosened the locking nut on the hinge side the table had already started to move nearly 3mm and I hadn't touched the actual adjuster. As you can imagine without a solid platform to work from this took hours to get right. The fence has a bulge about 40mm from the bottom and it runs the full length of the fence. If I want to square edge 50mm x 50mm I need to set the bottom 50mm of the fence square and this leaves a 1.5mm gap between the square and the top of the fence. After doing all this yesterday I tried the thicknesser and it worked ok but left bad snipe on both ends of a 600mm piece of 50x50. Is your fence flat? and do you know how to stop the snipe from the thicknesser? I spoke to Paul at Axminster about how to a adjust the beds etc and I will call him tomorrow about the thicknesser.

      paul113757. Surely with the manufacturers warranty, you could have the machine replaced if there are defects?

    Hello, is it made in UK or China ?

    • @whirled_peas
      @whirled_peas 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look on Alibaba and search "planer thicknesser" or "table saw" - it's all made in China these days. Axminster are essentially china's sales department, same with every other retailer in the UK. You have to spend serious money to have it made in the UK or Europe.
