This is an AUTHENTIC AMG car, which is a rare animal. They are very fast from the factory, but a pulley swap out and some ECU software tweaks and these machines are monsters. Yes, Haley looks and sounds great as always.
Yes sir, I have a 2008 and I did exactly that. An ECU tune plus small pulley really unlock the potential of these beasts. Other mods such as headers, can also be done but with cooling. ECU and small pulley or OK without cooling.
@@RayNLAcertainly your comment is more true today than it was when this SL55 AMG was built. In fact the brand new SL is being marketed ONLY as an AMG product. But back in the era of the R230, many non-Amg SL500 cars were sold (in USA at least) with the entirely decorative Sport Package option, which prominently featured AMG wheels. This led to many of the cars being erroneously referred to as SL500 AMG Sport vehicles. And since authentic AMG emblems have always been available on Ebay, many posers have stuck one on the trunk of their SL500 or other SL model, furthering the misconception. This SL55 AMG is a comparatively rare machine with a very powerful hand built AMG engine, and substantially upgraded brakes, suspension, transmission, and so on. And with a drastically higher original sticker price of course. Most people don't understand all this, hence my comment.
Absolutely beautiful car; that being said, it is still a 15 year old vehicle with no warranty. If the vehicle were to start developing powertrain, transmission, electrical or other operational issues, it would be an understatement to say I would be in a serious financial crisis!
I own 6 of these cars. I love owning and working on them. I am not a car dealer... nor a professional mechanic. Just a guy with a passion for older cars. With that said... they all have issues. To think they don't is extremely naïve. From personal experience... cars with low mileage tend to have MORE issues than ones driven. These are extremely complex cars. Ya just gotta love the car! Several have come from the Naples area... shipped them North to Indiana.
I don't know about a crisis ... but they will take some serious play money HAHA Outside of run of the mill E class cars, I had an '93 E500 ... I loved the car and kept it for almost 10 years, but it was like getting a big raise when I didn't have to maintain it any longer HAHA $2000 for a brake job (every 20k miles or so), $600 oil changes that included numerous mandatory service items ... the service guys knew my name and sent birthday and Christmas cards! HAHA And got back $55k of my initial $95k investment. Had I kept it until now, I hear they go for $100k for good examples! The only car I miss as much (or maybe even more) was my '70 Monte Carlo SS454 - my first brand new car. It was lime green with a dark green interior and vinyl top, turbo hydromatic (contrary to popular belief, the 4 speed was not available - otherwise I would have had it) power windows and air, and if I remember correctly, even had disc brakes up front. Not a big deal as far as today's standards, but I could easily get to 60 in under 7 seconds HAHA On a cool day, it could do the quarter under 15 seconds HAHA And gas was no problem - at about 30 cents a gallon HAHA

@@victorblock3421 Yup, I know! People that say they had no "significant" service issues did not do all the "required" service ... Better than the new SL55? You better believe it. The glass roof roadster experience delivered is delivered so exquisitely in the late gen SL55 no cloth roof car can replicate it. Top up or top down. It's as quiet and controlled at 100, as other cars are at 50. It's even lighter and more compact than the new SL yet more complete with a spare tire kit and fog lights which the new car doesn't have. Even the audio system can be updated with a smartphone USB/BT adapter . So awesome, SL55's like this are appreciating in value considering this R230 generation is probably peak SL.
An '88 Benz 560 SEL sedan, a '13 Jaguar XK coupe and now, an '07 Benz SL 55 AMG drop top! These are some fine looking, respect commanding rides you've shown this week and for that, Haley, my hat goes off to you!
I used to have one of these cars. They are great until you have to have them worked on. Also, the ABC system (Active Body Control) is known to give out. Had to have mine replaced and pump alone was $2200.
well if you look at german sites theres a couple that still costs 60-70k wth low milage and there is one black for 116k with only 100mph on the clock ...2007 i think
With cars like this you need to give the Excelerator a couple gentle pumps before you pull off and just before you pull up. The exhaust note of this car is what totally seduces a potential buyer.

Yes, I and many others think the 2007-08 R230 SL's are the best. Prior years' models lacked several minor but nice improvements. For 2009 a more substantial facelift was introduced, with a much more contemporary headlight design not to everybody's taste.
Classy review... I'm looking at one in Canada.. but if I had a sales associate like Hailey?.. I would definitely take that one, it's spectacular in white.

I’m not sure about this year but i have an earlier model and the trunk has no soft close feature. I’m fairly certain the same applies here. Instead, that button on the trunk sill moves the roof out of the way so luggage can still be removed with the top down
