- Lyrics:
[Verse 1]
Somewhere in Germany, but I can't place it
Man, I hate this part of Texas
Close my eyes, fantasize
Three clicks and I'm home
When I get back I'll lay around
And I'll get up and lay back down
Romanticize a quiet life
There's no place like my room
[Chorus]
But you had to go
I know, I know, I know
Like a wave that crashed and melted on the shore
Not even the burnouts are out here anymore
And you had to go
I know, I know, I know
[Verse 2]
Out in the park, we watch the sunset
Talking on a rusty swing set
After a while you went quiet
And I got mean
Always pushing you away from me
But you come back with gravity
And when I call, you come home
A bird in your teeth
[Chorus]
So I gotta go
I know, I know, I know
When the sirens sound, you'll hide under the floor
But I'm not gonna go down with my hometown in a tornado
I'm gonna chase it
I know, I know, I know
I gotta go now
I know, I know, I know
[Verse 3]
Driving out into the sun
Let the ultraviolet cover me up
Went looking for a creation myth
Ended up with a pair of cracked lips
Windows down, scream along
To some America First rap country song
A slaughterhouse, an outlet mall
Slot machines, fear of God
Windows down, heater on
Big bolts of lightning hanging low
Over the coast, everyone's convinced
It's a government drone or an alien spaceship
Either way, we're not alone
I'll find a new place to be from
A haunted house with a picket fence
To float around and ghost my friends
No, I'm not afraid to disappear
The billboard said "The End Is Near"
I turned around, there was nothing there
Yeah, I guess the end is here
[Outro]
The end is here
The end is here
The end is here
The end is... ahh! - เพลง
'I'll find a new place to be from' I love this line so much
The third verse is one of the most well written song verses I've ever heard istg
Idc how popular this song is, it will always be underrated.
this song really tell us about 5 stages of grief in 5 minutes song
the “over the coast, everyone’s convinced it’s a government drone or an alien spaceship” lyric was written about an event in California. about every week I drive past where it happened and I always feel so cool thinking about how she wrote it about that area hahaha idk
what happened? i‘m curiouuus😅🖤
@@vermaledeit1799 2015 nuclear submarine ran a test off of southern california with an empty rocket! It created a giant blue streak of light across the sky. Some of the pictures were absolutely stunning.
School spirits brought me here. Holy shit this is good. Coming from rural America, the description of the things around her spit so hard.
This song belongs to a very special song group. Those massive in scope, built in hope and despair. Ambiguous chords that cling to memory and illuminate the future.
Love the way it builds to a crescendo. The lyrics too are just epic. Brought tears to my eyes as I sung it into the remote.
I love how when you listen to the lyrics, it forms a complete story, and not just, “I loved someone but then they broke up with me” like most popular songs.
I LOVE THIS SONG. my gay ass always cries to this when i feel overwhelmed from life
Same (but bi)
2:32 is my favorite part
YES it makes we just want to scream it out i love it so much
Best song to drive to and belt out. Love it.
@Ingrid White Krawiec you're right it's not, it's a screaming song
This is massively underrated
Most beautiful thing like ever
@@nomore.1598 agreed
YES
The end is priceless. I can’t even describe it
this is going to be the best live song ever
I heard it live and I’ve never felt so alive 😭😭 I screamed the living shit out of myself and her voice was amazing
I just listened to this song for the first time and my jaw is on the floor
Listening to this after listening to Phoebe's cover of That Funny Feeling, it now makes a lot more sense why she'd want to do that cover.
Both are high art. Masterpieces
How come all my life i have not known about this song?…..glad i found it somehow
I love this song and I hope one day I could see Phoebe singing this song😊
I just discovered this singer and I love her
TW: psychosis and mental health issues.
TYSM Phoebe for writting the verse, “a haunted house, with a picket fence; to flout around and ghosts my friends.” never in my life have I heard someone describe my psychosis in a better way. In August of 2023, I went through a psychosis where I thought my father's house was haunted and during that time I was just glued to my phone, trying to figure out how to make the ghosts live. I ignored everyone. I only listened to the voice in my head. I only listened to him. I was so scared. I ghosted everyone. I ignored my friends and family, I felt so alone. I had to break MYSELF out of that psychosis in a way as well. My family helped me realize "oh wait, MAYBE I'm just insane." But in all honesty they just told me to "be positive." But I told my mom about the voice, and she looked up something about psychosis, and I saw her phone and it all KINDA clicked. But I went through that practically by myself. I've spent SO MUCH time thinking no one understood my pain and trauma; thinking that I was alone. So, thank you Phoebe. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. ❤
I know it's been a long time since you wrote this, and it's a shame not more of us psychosis patients didn't like your comment.
But you're not alone, nearly the same identical thing happened to me. You're as human as I am, you have as much value as me and I'm so sorry your brain played a funny trick on you like that.
You should never give up. You beat insanity! Not many people can say that. Keep the momentum and do wonderful things that normal people wouldn't understand. You can do it!
oH. "I WAS BREAKING UP W MY DRUMMER"
Saw the start of the genius lyric video!
a massive song
Very large indeed
Gargantuan
This song is just beautiful

honestly i’m not clever enough to understand the meaning of this song imma just keep vibing with it lol
Same
it's mainly about accepting the end of the world. Phoebe made a genius video talking about this song and the meaning of the lyrics so you could check it out!
You don't need to. Your heart understands. That's why it loves the vibe. Just enjoy the art you enjoy and don't worry about meaning so much unless you want to become an artist! And you probs could if you have good enough taste to like this kind of music, but you don't have to create or understand art to love it with your whole heart.
@gartinho, Good concise analysis btw
That fucking violin at 2:12
The first part of the song hits hard
this song just hurts so deep
3:50 💔
I'm here because of Siobhan's mental meltdown, in the 6th episode of Mare of Easttown 😍
Same here. Really cool song too.....not necessarily because of the genre but because I like music that has the diversity and flexibility of sound that allows high end audio equipment room to run wild. This is certainly such a song.
Same just saw that scene too !
Love this
