I've heard this story many times over the years but you added reality to it. I've always hated circuses because of this. As an elephant lover my family have graced me with over a thousand - they're everywhere. Such a dark spot on human stupidity.🐘🎈🐘

It's a sad commentary on their priorities that they left monuments to wars, glorifying it in the process, but left not a single sign of a beautiful creature, held in captivity, that was forced to entertain for the sake of monetary gain. Only to be put to death in a barbaric fashion, when she defended herself against cruel treatment. This is truly a sad story, but I am glad you told it. If only to remind us that we have a choice every day to deal wisely or cruelly to those humans and creatures alike, who come within our sphere. It is better to act out of kindness and not to be swayed by our fears, lest we repeat the same mistake.
How incredibly sad. I had heard this story before ,but did not realize it happened in this area of the country. Elephants are such , intelligent, emotional creatures. Some creatures should just be enjoyed from afar, in their natural habitat.
Sadly, I'm familiar with this history. I have developed a morbid hatred for any circus, that's why I refused to patronize any. I don't believe in the mistreatment of any animal. I'm a firm believer in Karma and the fact that one reaps as they sow. Someday will be a day of reckoning. A lot of people will have to answer for what all they did. It may not be in this life, but on the other side, there will be peace and justice for this elephant 🐘 and many others.

Bryan Wayne Those children were already scarred being raised by the type of parents who would have them at such a spectacle to begin with. Hate and cruelty breed hate and cruelty. I agree with BirdDogg...sometimes I just prefer the company of animals.
My buddy Bear Clair told me about this story years ago... couldn't believe they hanged the elephant instead of shooting it with a proper high power rifle

Any species that is threatened will react that way towards whomever threatens them. It's primal instinct. This is sick and sad for everyone involved.
