Blackpool deserves so much more credit than it gets its fabulous I've been going as a kid since aged 5 I'm 45 now and it's a must every couple of years, lovely folk up there it makes me happy all of it 😊 and so much history
Howard is still a frequent to our local and is a whizz on the karaoke. He's a most charming individual and has been for the thirty years I've known him. He's from the old school which is reflected in his music. Bless him.
The last time I visited Blackpool was in 1979 and saw Charlie Williams, Bonny Langford, and Paul Daniels and his wife when they appeared in theatre and the pair.
Absolutely fabulous!! I love Blackpool and have spent many happy times there, including Christmas 2019!!This song always makes me feel good and I now play it with my partner on our ukuleles!! (Bukes!!).
The song refers to the 'Blackpool Dance Specials', trains operated by the LMS and then BR from Manchester and the East Lancashire towns to Blackpool. They began in the 1930s and lasted until the early 1960s, combining a return ticket with admission to the Tower Ballroom. (The Illuminations often featured as an additional attraction.) It was an evening train, departing around teatime, and was popular on Fridays and Saturdays. Girls and women would travel with curlers under their head scarfs and take them out in the ladies lavatory upon arrival. It was patronised by gangs of lads and girls who used the Promenade and the Tower as a 'monkey run' so that they would click'. The carriages were usually compartment stock with no corridors; upon departure from Blackpool, the blinds were pulled down and the bulbs were unscrewed in preparation for the non-stop run to Bolton and beyond. Not for nothing was it known as the 'passion wagon'! It is said that a porter was often detailed to stand at the exit of Bolton Trinity Street with a pigeon basket to collect the light bulbs! The past is truly a foreign country!
Thanks for the history lesson. Remember as a kid in the 90's, Our poor family saved up for a day in Blackpool as our holiday once every year. The excitement as a lil kiddy, thinking of all those rides was heaven. I still go now and then, yet the magic has gone now. Whether its the moronic stag and hen does that ruins it i do not know. Not sure if the same thing happened in the 90's. Being a kid i was probably blind to it all.
I'd not heard of this before Oh the Blackpool Belle was a getaway train that went from Northern stations What a beautiful sight on a Saturday night bound for the illuminations No mothers and dads just girls and lads young and fancy free Out for the laughs on the Golden Mile at Blackpool by the sea I remember - very well All the happy gang aboard the Blackpool Belle I remember them pals of mine, when I ride the Blackpool line And the songs we sang together on the Blackpool Belle Little Piggy Greenfield he was there he thought he was mighty slick He bought a hat on the Golden Mile the hat said "Kiss Me Quick" Piggy was a lad for all the girls but he drank too much beer He made a pass at a Liverpool lass and she pushed him off the pier Lce Cream Sally could never settle down she lived for her Knickerbocker glories Till she clicked with a bloke who said he was broke but she loved his Ice cream stories Sally took it all in with a smile and a grin she fell for sailor Jack They went for a trip to the Isle of Man and never did come back Some of us went up the Blackpool Tower and others in the Tunnel of Love A few made off to the Blackpool sands under the pier above There was always a rush at the midnight hour, but we made it just the same And I made off with a Liverpool lass, but I never could remember her name Now the Blackpool Belle has a thousand tales if they could all be told Many of these I will recall as I am growing old They were happy days and I miss the times we'd pull the curtains down And the Passion Wagon would steam back home and we would go to town
this video is of my favoirte place to go on holiday seeing all this just makes me want to be there right now thanks for showing all the old trams miss them ones this is the best
@MuffinManWhitley Blackpool has never been the same since the last Leyland PD3 buses went in November 1988. Forget about the trams or amusement arcades, the PD3s were an integral part of the place and the resort is a faint shadow of it's former self without them.
HORNEBEEDUBLO there are several in preservation and they are used in local bus rallies in the Blackpool area such as Fleetwood tram Sunday and the anniversary weekend which is the second to last weekend in September
Howard Broadbent is my mate who wrote this i dont see him now but my brother does and can ask him to get you it from him . Let me know and i will send you my email . Howard was a great golfer winning the Bolton champs many times and could have been a great pro golfer.
GREAT song & vidio-love it, many thanks, I have the original EP, sung by Howard Broadbent, in its original sleeve, side 1 The Blackpool Belle, side 2-the Tram, Am very proud to have it in my collection, is their anyone out there also with a copy?, BLACKPOOL-the GREATEST seaside resort in the world,( love it.) JOHN SALTON.
I have looked everywhere for this version of the song... And i cant find it... I played it to my mum and grandparents, And it brings back good memories for them... Does anyone know where i can get this version of the song?... the only ones i have found... are missing one of the verses :(
Excellent song however, the Vid doesn't really do justice to 'The Blackpool Belle'- named after the last evening Steam passenger train from Blackpool(central) to Manchester and as a train spotter used to see it regularly in Summer, through Chorley normally hauled by a Newton Heath 'Jubilee' Locomotive
Not just cherished by northerners. I live blackpool I'm 50 years old and still remember my much loved nanna taking me to Blackpool. Luckily I've taken my 7 year old and she lives it as much and I did all those years ago. Hopefully it will be a part of what she remembers me for. I do think Blackpool needs some money spending on it to make it the greatest place I had been and I've been all over the world inc Florida. Blackpool council please spend some money so me 7 year old wants to take her children there in my memory 💜
My word, that takes me back some...Back in the late fifties we caught the Bell to Blackpool for the day. lf you didn't have a girlfriend with you when you went, you usually had one on the last train back. The light bulbs unscrewed in carriages with no corridors and pulled by a steamer that never seemed to hurry. Oh happy days!
This is how Blackpool is presented to the holiday makers, the grot spots are far removed from this image, I was raised in Blackpool (my late parents' home town), so I know what I'm talking about.

What a lovely old nostalgic song, very happy memories of Blackpool.
We played this at my granddad's funeral almost 10 years ago, it was his favourite song! Honestly, listening to it again is an experience.

You know what I danced to this when I was in the baby group when I went Blackpool ! So cute!!
This song is just fricking awesome

I agree, people put places like Blackpool and Skegness down but they are fun towns!

As a Railway Enthusiast, I did not know that it was based on the Blackpool Dance Specials, thanks for that now I love the song even more!
Lovely to see Blackpool as it was in it's heyday even though a little sad. Society has changed so much since then. Great song. Thanks.
Love this. Spent many happy time with my Nana and my cousin Michael. We stayed at 'Ivys' 20 Yorkshire St!!!! I'll never forget! Thank you Allen!!!
so- i’m the only one here from billzo’s stream?-

Nope. Just saw it now on a clips page and his reaction tho!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd not heard of this before
Oh the Blackpool Belle was a getaway train that went from Northern stations
What a beautiful sight on a Saturday night bound for the illuminations
No mothers and dads just girls and lads young and fancy free
Out for the laughs on the Golden Mile at Blackpool by the sea
I remember - very well
All the happy gang aboard the Blackpool Belle
I remember them pals of mine, when I ride the Blackpool line
And the songs we sang together on the Blackpool Belle
Little Piggy Greenfield he was there he thought he was mighty slick
He bought a hat on the Golden Mile the hat said "Kiss Me Quick"
Piggy was a lad for all the girls but he drank too much beer
He made a pass at a Liverpool lass and she pushed him off the pier
Lce Cream Sally could never settle down she lived for her Knickerbocker glories
Till she clicked with a bloke who said he was broke but she loved his Ice cream stories
Sally took it all in with a smile and a grin she fell for sailor Jack
They went for a trip to the Isle of Man and never did come back
Some of us went up the Blackpool Tower and others in the Tunnel of Love
A few made off to the Blackpool sands under the pier above
There was always a rush at the midnight hour, but we made it just the same
And I made off with a Liverpool lass, but I never could remember her name
Now the Blackpool Belle has a thousand tales if they could all be told
Many of these I will recall as I am growing old
They were happy days and I miss the times we'd pull the curtains down
And the Passion Wagon would steam back home and we would go to town
Omg the memories!!!! Brings back my younger years with my brother going to bkackpool!! :) xx

Nobody outside of Blackpool wants to see the grot spots of Blackpool. wouldn't make any sense. It has no value.
