December 2024 Frequency Fridays: Odd and End

- On the evening of Friday, December 6th, proudly presented new media artist/electronic musician Dave Seidel (NH), improviser/sound artist Dorothy Chan (DC), Sam Harmon’s solo project glacial23 (OH), and Billy Wolfe and Tony Zilincik's (CMH) free jazz duo Odd and End.

About the artists:
Born and raised north of Chicago in Mundelein, Illinois, Billy Wolfe began playing piano at the age of 5 and saxophone at the age of 10. Billy earned a bachelor of music degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio, where he began his professional career playing with bands such as Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, the Dayton Jazz Orchestra, and the Brian Michael Smith-John Vermeulen Octet. After spending roughly a decade in the Washington DC metropolitan area, Billy recently returned to Columbus where he can be found freelancing with a wide array of Ohio musicians. He currently leads Billy Wolfe Octet and The Tristano School Project as well as co-leading the nine piece MW9 ensemble with Baltimore based trumpeter Leo Maxey and the New Orleans trad/funk inspired District Brass alongside David Agee. Billy is also is a member of the Bohemian Caverns Jazz Orchestra, Vaughn Wiester’s Famous Jazz Orchestra, The Rick Brunetto Big Band, The Brad Linde Expanded Ensemble, Joe Duran’s Projections, Will Strickler’s Parallel Structures, and the avant-garde quartet/quintet, “Team Players”.
Tony Zilincik is currently an associate professor of music at Capital University where he teaches tuba, composition and theory, and directs the brass choir and Capital Thunder, the University's tuba/euphonium ensemble. He is the principal tubist for the Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra, the Newark Granville Symphony Orchestra, and maintains a large private low brass studio.
He is the tubist in the Capital Brass brass quintet, the faculty quintet at Capital University, the Cathedral Brass brass quintet at St. Joseph Cathedral in Columbus, and is the director and coordinator of Merry TUBACHRISTMAS Columbus. He is the E-flat tuba soloist with the Brass Band of Columbus and has performed with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. He is the former music director of the Central Ohio Brass Band and has performed with many Broadway touring shows including Annie,The Lion King, and Mary Poppins.
He is active as a freelance soloist, having appeared with the Brass Band of Columbus at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, with the Central Michigan University Brass Band, the Capital University Trombone Choir and with many area high schools. He was the Wind Ensemble conductor at Otterbein College for three years. Also a prolific composer, his works have received performances in the United States and Europe and many are published by Cimarron Music. Mr. Zilincik is in demand as a tuba and band clinician throughout Ohio and Michigan. His most recent composition, "Tower Thunder" was recently premiered in Geyserville California at the Oliver Ranch through a generous grant from the Oliver Ranch Foundation.
