We just bought a 1969 Alaskan utility camper for $500.00 Looks identical to yours except our camper is perched inside the box of a vintage once was utility truck so it is now a pull along. We paid a gentleman to pull it out to our off the grid 2.38 acre parcel in the Arizona Mohave desert near Yucca,AZ. The camper is so beautiful out there🌵 Now we have to restore it bcuz it is in real rough fall apart condition. Any directions you can point us to on TH-cam for a restoration project? I found your channel with my first search!💯 Beautiful 1970 camper you and your family have🤗👍💛

Sam Schultz and Reparadise both have some Alaskan restoration videos up on TH-cam and Sam is still working on his so I’m sure he will have more to follow soon.. Some of the Facebook Alaskan camper pages are good resources too so check those out. I will let you know if I come across any more that might be helpful. You will have fun working on it and it’s a good time to add more storage or continue to customize things. Definitely add some extra insulation to the upper half if you open it up to help with that desert heat! They are great campers and it will return any hard work that you put into it every time you take it on a trip, lots of good times ahead!

I had a dream of taking one of these to Alaska or northern ontario and using it as a base camp to begin a life of freedom and independence. Back in the early seventies I saw the grip that society placed on its citizens and I wanted to escape all of that. My case in point is just where can one live and be free from the constraints of society? The north country can be brutal but it also can be rewarding to one that comes to understand it.
Heading north, depending on how far you choose to venture can definitely reward you with some solitude and beautiful surroundings. The Alaskan camper can handle a trip like that with a bit of roof structure cross bracing reinforcement for heavier snow loads and making sure the rubber air draft (metzeler) material is in good shape. I would definitely have it set up with a diesel heater or woodstove for year round arctic conditions. Cheers! 👍

Thanks for watching! A trip through Northern BC will be awesome, we are hoping to do a run up to Alaska and take the ferry back at some point. I have packed so many people into our Alaskan on trips ha ha! We did a trip to the San Juan’s for my son’s birthday and had 5 kids with us 😂! Usually it was just the 4 of us, 2 on the bed and one in the overhead cot, then a sleeping mat on the floor for the 4th person or my oldest son would sleep in the backseat of the Ford because the seat would fold flat and was actually pretty comfortable back there with a good sleeping pad. Cheers! 👍
I think the NCO’s have varied in weight over the years depending on options and floor layout but I’ve heard of simplified 60’s era non cabovers weighing in around 750 lbs. I think the original brochure in our 1970 listed the weight as 1200 lbs., we used it in 3/4 ton trucks without issue and it was not noticeable but I had used it in a newer 1/2 ton Ford for a few months as well and it actually handled the weight fine but would probably be best with air bags eventually. They are great campers and make a lot of sense, definitely a unique design that is still my favorite pop up 👌

Hi, I have a bracket that is drilled into the bed just behind the cab. I’m not sure what brand it is but I think they are fairly common. I use heavy duty stainless turnbuckles to connect the camper brackets to the bed brackets. This system works good but I have bent and broken turnbuckles off-road and in sand dunes. Ideally if the camper wasn’t going to be removed often it would just be through bolted (camper to bed). I’ve used bed stake pocket brackets and those failed pretty quickly.

So I just bought one of those exactly like it not sure how to mount it to my truck doesn’t have brackets or anything is it just self tapped in?
