This was Ronald Colman's very first television appearance. I have his personal shooting script for this program (with his copious notes....): a script he co-wrote w/ the great Milton Merlin. Colman was a master of the silent art of pantomime. I love that he begins this TV play with a demonstration of his mastery of that silent art. He was magical....
@@renacorey5877 It's actually a faithful modern adaptation of The Lost Silk Hat by Edward John Dunsany. It's not everybody's cup of tea...but it's certainly not "stupid" in the slightest....
Milton Merlin wrote many of "THE HALLS OF IVY" radio episodes Ronald and Benita co-starred in. Unfortunately, when several of them were later adapted for television, Merlin received no screen credit because he had been blacklisted, due to his refusal to "name names" before the odious House Un-American Activities Committee. He rebounded from that, and later became associate producer (and frequent writer) on "THE MILLIONAIRE" [producer Don Fedderson didn't believe in the blacklist- he believed in *talent].*
Ronald Colman was a classy guy. Also wonderful in LOST HORIZON, where I first saw him when I was very young..That voice.....and of course, "it is a far, far, better thing I do...'
Ronald Colman...none other like him ! He was a class act from the time he was on the stage and entered film . I especially love the silent films he was in : Lady Windemere's Fan , Raffles the Amateur Cracksman , others .
Originally telecast on October 23, 1952.

Oh...so delightful...a story from Lord Dunsany!
Yeah
Mildly entertaining but too whimsical. Annoying.
More than annoying.
Ronald Colman sure looks and sounds like Robert Downey Jr. or rather RDJ looks and sounds like Ronald Colman.
