  • A sign-off from the Bay Area's Fox Network owned-and-operated station back when when it was among the most-watched independent (no network) stations in the Western U.S.. The video begins near the conclusion of the KTVU Sign-off News, rendered by Bob Stone, with the weather forecast for the Bay Area. Immediately following is KTVU's sign-off sermonette Day's End, delivered that night by the Reverend Peter Unruh of the Lakeside Baptist Church, presumably in Oakland. Rev. Unruh is also a member of the Lakeside Quartet which opens the program with a hymn. Afterwards comes the sign-off announcement by the aforementioned Bob Stone. The NAB's Television Code Seal displayed is the final version that was used from 1980 until the Code's retirement in 1983. The SSB film is one of numerous produced by the LDS (Mormon) Church.

Pastor Peter Unruh went to be with His Lord on June 22, 2023 after a short illness. He was 94 years of age. He was a great man. On his grave marker are the words of 2 Timothy 4:7: "‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.’ ” It was true of Pastor Unruh!

I was never up THIS late as a kid. Otherwise, KTVU (along with KBHK 44) was the "go-to" station for all the great cartoons in the afternoon.

That minister could have passed for Jim Lange. When I saw the thumbnail, I really thought it was him, given this clip was from the Bay Area.
