Where are those people who were attacking her when her movie Sadak came out over the whole SSR row and called her Nepo kid. The same people are now praising her. I too had the same emotion at that time but cannot stop myself from appreciating her mind-boggling body of work over here. And all nepo-kids are not useless... Most of them have real talent.
She was pretty good in Raazi, Udta Punjab, Highway and Gully Boy. Sadak came much later. All those haters are naive folks who buy into a narrative and turn it into an agenda. They're also in huge numbers. So no point even arguing. Accept and move on. If the movie is good people watch, if not they avoid it.

This is severely underwhelming. The dialogue delivery is average and the accent is bad. Love Alia but she is not fitting in somehow. Priyanka Chopra or Vidya Balan would have played this role way better.

SLB movie and Alia Bhatt....such an amazing combination. The whole nepotism debate is always ongoing and my take on it is simply, if you're talented you will last in this industry or you will not. There are lots of star kids who have tried and failed to leave a lasting impression. Some have because audiences have loved them. You can't help who you are related to. There are many kids of doctors, engineers who want to be like their parents. Maybe star kids have similar aspirations. Agreed, they may have an easier time at the door but it's not their fault. Ultimate power is with the audience.
The trailer looks goood. I’m excited to watch it in theatres too. I recently made Indian friends after being without any desi friends for such a long time here . So I’m excited to go to the movies with Indian friends and watch this film :D
Damn Alia bhatt is truely a gem her performance is incredible. She would have got much more love and respect if she was not born in a rich celebrity family. Sanjay Leela Bhansali movies are always so cinematic and colourful they make the experience magical when watched in the theatres. India has always been one of the worst places to live for a woman this film might showcase the tragic story of Gangubai as it is based on real story.

gravitas? havent you seen her in kapur and sons or love you zindagi? she literally embodied the complex layered young adult's psyche...in razi, her character's silent courage and dignity was absolutely convincing....if she is given more complex, intricately written characters, she will do justice to them also.
I don't think this is a gangster film by any chance. It looks like a character study, and events that shaped her into the person she is later. I'll watch it, when it comes to streaming, cuz I live in a coastal town in Wales (for university), and India films don't come till the theatre here. Not disappointed I won't be able to see it in theatres, as I'm a guy who respects and appreciates SLB, but I appreciate the craft he puts more than I actually like his films.

While this trailer has Bhansali’s signature for the first I got a sense that maybe there is a focus on story, maybe, hopefully, which hasn’t been Sanjay’s strongpoint. So I hope here he has evolved .. though there’s a bit melodrama I sensed but it may it still be very interesting. I too was excited to see vijay Raj.

For example : During Super 30 trailer, many argued that Pankaj Tripathi should have played the titular role since he is Bihari so knows the accent and looks pretty similar to Anand Kumar irl. But some others (including me) thought that this role will be a real treat because HR gets to flex his acting muscles portraying someone who does not resemble anything close to him. Same with Ranveer in 83. Same with this movie. But let's not judge the movie with the trailer, shall we? Let's wait for the movie atleast 🙂

I'm still on the fence about Alia as Gangubai. She can't match a Smita Patils rawness for example. But Vijay Raaz...my God he is going to steal the show!

With all due respect to your opinion, the actual book on which this is based (Mafia Queens Of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi), the story spans from the age of 15-16 to the late 30s.. so Tabu Or Vidya would have definitely played that age better than Alia but what about the teenage portrayal? Vidya or Tabu can't play a teenager. So as a lover of books and stories, I think Alia is perfect for this role!
But look at tge film scenario alia portraying 16 yr girl when she is playing prostitute and 21 almost when she is fighting for elections now tell ne how vidya piryanka tabu will look 16 yrs or 18 yr girl they are veterans but she is not much less and also fit in movie scenario

But it is just my opinion that even though she is a fabulous actor.. and Her performance looked good but still the aura n powerful presence required seemed missing..It kept me from enjoying the trailer. The moments vijay raaz was on screen were fire to me n m excited about him more than anyone.

The trailer looks great and no doubt Alia did really well. The issue with Alia isn’t nepotism (that’s only what Kangna clings to to justify bullying her), it’s Karan’s backing. She gets first pick on roles and movies where as other actors have to hope the choices they make work. Also beyond her kwk trolling, within the industry she’s heavily protected by karan. Everyone else had to deal with failure and hope their choices would work, so that’s where the bitterness comes in or at least that’s what it seems like from comments other actors have made including senior ones.

You know, in my childhood i had watched a movie named Shabnam Mausi. It had Ashutosh Rana, Vijay Raaz, mukesh tiwari etc. Ashutosh Rana and Vijai Raaz played eunuch mother-daughter. I instantly became a fan of them. Sadly people didn't appreciate them back then (only when in negative or comedy roles).

Alia did her job as an actress here, nothing special. From the younger lot, Jeniffer Winget, Radhika Apte and especially, Priyanka Chopra would have mastered this role. All I could think about at the end of the trailer is Priyanka Chopra's performances in in Bajiro Mastani and 7 khoon Maaf. Its a shame but good luck to the team. Vijay Raaz already killing it.
I agree Alia is a good actress, also that she couldn't be made the figurehead as a mediocre actress made superstar due to nepotism. But your point about why she's rated highly on Koffee with Karan, that I couldn't agree with. That show is made just to satisfy egos of certain actors, you can see it by how they exclude some more deserving actors when asking guests about the best actors or other questions like that.
I am an Alia Bhat fan, love her acting but for some reason I feel that Priyanka would have been a better fit for this role. I know that real Gangubai was closer in looks to Alia than PC and Alia is a better actor out of the 2, but I still feel PC would have been better for this role.

No one hates her in the Industry ( except Kangana Ranaut) who actually have problem with most of industry guys especially filmy background people. gravitas? havent you seen her in kapur and sons or love you zindagi? she literally embodied the complex layered young adult's psyche...in razi, her character's silent courage and dignity was absolutely convincing....if she is given more complex, intricately written characters, she will do justice to them also.

I don't think this is a gangster film by any chance. It looks like a character study, and events that shaped her into the person she is later. I'll watch it, when it comes to streaming, cuz I live in a coastal town in Wales (for university), and India films don't come till the theatre here. Not disappointed I won't be able to see it in theatres, as I'm a guy who respects and appreciates SLB, but I appreciate the craft he puts more than I actually like his films.

While this trailer has Bhansali’s signature for the first I got a sense that maybe there is a focus on story, maybe, hopefully, which hasn’t been Sanjay’s strongpoint. So I hope here he has evolved .. though there’s a bit melodrama I sensed but it may it still be very interesting. I too was excited to see vijay Raj.

For example : During Super 30 trailer, many argued that Pankaj Tripathi should have played the titular role since he is Bihari so knows the accent and looks pretty similar to Anand Kumar irl. But some others (including me) thought that this role will be a real treat because HR gets to flex his acting muscles portraying someone who does not resemble anything close to him. Same with Ranveer in 83. Same with this movie. But let's not judge the movie with the trailer, shall we? Let's wait for the movie atleast 🙂

With all due respect to your opinion, the actual book on which this is based (Mafia Queens Of Mumbai by Hussain Zaidi), the story spans from the age of 15-16 to the late 30s.. so Tabu Or Vidya would have definitely played that age better than Alia but what about the teenage portrayal? Vidya or Tabu can't play a teenager. So as a lover of books and stories, I think Alia is perfect for this role!
But look at tge film scenario alia portraying 16 yr girl when she is playing prostitute and 21 almost when she is fighting for elections now tell ne how vidya piryanka tabu will look 16 yrs or 18 yr girl they are veterans but she is not much less and also fit in movie scenario

The trailer looks great and no doubt Alia did really well. The issue with Alia isn’t nepotism (that’s only what Kangna clings to to justify bullying her), it’s Karan’s backing. She gets first pick on roles and movies where as other actors have to hope the choices they make work. Also beyond her kwk trolling, within the industry she’s heavily protected by karan. Everyone else had to deal with failure and hope their choices would work, so that’s where the bitterness comes in or at least that’s what it seems like from comments other actors have made including senior ones.

You know, in my childhood i had watched a movie named Shabnam Mausi. It had Ashutosh Rana, Vijay Raaz, mukesh tiwari etc. Ashutosh Rana and Vijai Raaz played eunuch mother-daughter. I instantly became a fan of them. Sadly people didn't appreciate them back then (only when in negative or comedy roles).

People don't hate her for her role in that but coz of the nepotism reason. Coz of so called SSR fans after his demise , since then all this nepo issue has started and Alia became a target.

Alia did her job as an actress here, nothing special. From the younger lot, Jeniffer Winget, Radhika Apte and especially, Priyanka Chopra would have mastered this role. All I could think about at the end of the trailer is Priyanka Chopra's performances in in Bajiro Mastani and 7 khoon Maaf. Its a shame but good luck to the team. Vijay Raaz already killing it.
