      Loury is a so-called academic who has found another way to make a buck, not like so many other pundits found under rocks by infotainers like Megyn. His ilk doesn’t much care what they spew forth as long as it leads to his next gig. Those that can, do; those that can’t, teach. Probably has a picture of Clarence T. On his wall. What a traitor to his race!

    Those who believe they can and those that believe they can’t are usually both right. Telling kids that they can’t succeed because the system is rigged against them all but guarantees that they will not succeed. It will however guarantee a lot of very angry children who will vote Democrat in the future.

      Teachers are very committed to their students, but are also committed to the ideologies and techniques that they are comfortable with. It is not fair to assume that reforms can be implemented on the backs of classroom teachers who have “already seen these ideas come and go” when the experts move out, and they are abandoned to chance.

      The change to success at our schools means a simpler way of education. Forget about politics and group identity, emphasise core curriculum and set standards that are expected, no demanded, to be met. It starts with administrators, down to the teachers and finally the students. They're not doing that and until they all do, I'm going to challenge their commitment. How could they be very commit, to their students, if they accept poor effort and performance? They're saying that the students aren't capable so why try and that's the recipe for failure.

    It's really grating to hear anyone refer to Henry Rogers (a/k/a Ibram X. Kendi) as an "intellectual." The guy is as far from a genuine intellectual as you could get.

    • @JackHaveman52
      @JackHaveman52 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kendi is an intellectual but he's not a very good one. It's like a pro hockey player in the NHL. They're all hockey players but they're not all of the same talent. However, their players union isn't demanding that the fastest skaters be hobbled down so they can only skate as fast as the slowest skaters. That's what Kendi is advocating for and it's hurting everyone.

    Problem is that what do you do with all the bad teachers. This is a problem. It used to be that they starved for a while and then decided maybe they should become good teachers. Or maybe they found something that are good at so they didn't starve. Maybe they could ask the govt for some money to retrain. I would be okay to help fund that retracing, but keeping folks Ina job that do a bad job Is a bad idea🤔

    Teachers unions are a prime example of Pournelle’s Iron Law of Bureaucracy, that those who are good at the internal politics of an organization tend to run it, and disregard the purported goals of that organizarion.

    Since Loury once called my writing “brilliant” and was “blown away” by my site and signed up, I’d like to think that would earn me some credibility. Not with this crowd. Nothing registers the nanosecond you sense any dissent from the company line.
    “The Civil Rights Movement is over” - in 1984! That - took guts! And that - is the Loury I was looking for. Maybe when you’re done talking race, woke, and CRT for the ten-thousandth time - we can consider approaching problems in a more multi-dimensional manner? Just a thought!
    The commentary these communities speaks volumes about social media & the state of society: Habitually slinging self-congratulations and high praise for purveyors of virtue: Virtues that vanish the second you're called to put them to the test. Following facts that go in the direction you desire - doesn’t count. Anybody can do that!
    The smorgasbord of sub-cultures has created another dimension of delusion in America: Hardening minds not broadening them. If you think one party is to blame for this Charlie Foxtrot of a country we’ve become: You’re not part of the solution - you’re part of the problem. However, you do have to identify a problem in order to fix it. It becomes very difficult when the bureaucracy will fight you tooth and nail every step you take. Most Americans don't really understand why things are as bad as they are in American education. Try to tell our educators to ignore political ideology, group identity and stick to core subjects and success and you have a fight on your hands. We'd better know that going in or you don't stand a chance.

      If you allow the bad students to rule the classroom, you are a bad teacher. If the bad teachers are allowed to stay, you have a bad administration. It starts in kindergarten, when the child's mind is still being formed. If you don't tackle the problem early, it'll get harder and harder to deal with as they grow older. It'll become a rudderless ship.
      With an attitude like yours, we might as well give up our education system and save ourselves a ton of money. Surrender is not the path to success at any level.
