  • The last in the current series of workshop tasks covering work on a 2014 Yamaha Grizzly ATV. Here I show you the correct method, as per the Yamaha service manual, of how to locate, remove, clean, re-oil & re-fit the foam element type air filter to your Grizzly.
    It's classed as a simple task which most ATV & dirt bike owners can do with their eyes closed, but, we all had to start somewhere & I'm hoping the new generation of riders, new to the scene, will find this short video helpful...
    Any questions or comments just add them below & I'll do my best to get back to you quickly...

    Thanks for the detailed info on removing, cleaning and reinstalling the air filter, I recently discovered red grease on the seal of the air filter. Now I know why it was there. Great Job!

    You’ve probably been told this before but you are awesome. Thank you so much for the video. My grizzly stopped running and the only thing I could find wrong was an extremely dirty air filter. So I will be cleaning it and doing exactly what you have shown. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

      Andy Mechanic well, after my filter cleaning, just like you taught, I put it back on and my 4wheeler still didn’t start. It turns over nice so now I’m figuring it might be a fuel filter. Is there an external fuel filter on these? I’m sure there is but I don’t know where.

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm.....just try starting it without the air filter - sometimes the freshly oiled filter can restrict the air too much. Make sure the air box is clean though so no dirt gets drawn into the engine.
      Also, is the fuel relatively new or old as petrol can go off.
      Fuel filter - just one in the tank I think

    • @charlotte97838
      @charlotte97838 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andy Mechanic OK, I will take out the air filter and try to start the motor without it. The fuel was in the tank last fall. It is stored indoors. Thank you so much for your advice.

      Hmmmm.....I'd suggest draining the fuel tank & carb & giving the bike some fresh petrol :-)

    Thanks for these how-to's, Andy - being a Yamaha Grizzly 450 owner, they're very helpful. One suggestion is perhaps putting part #s, product info (such as the type of grease you're using to seal the ends of the filter), etc, into your notes. Other than that, love 'em!

    On some filters yes though air filter oil is much more 'tacky' and will stay in the filters foam where as engine oil will usually be pulled through into the engine by the passing air eventually. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy

    Hi Andy, Greetings from Newfoundland, Canada. Your videos are the best on TH-cam that I've ever seen for clarity and comprehensive information! I recommend them to all my friends! My question is about an '04 - 660 Grizzly. What is normal oil consumption for this bike and are there any common problems that are associated with them that you're aware of?

    I've been watching your videos since I started tackling this Yamaha Bruin 350. All the air box pieces were missing and I had to find these parts. Still waiting on the last hose section that the box attaches to the carb. I was wondering if I had found the wrong filter, until you had mentioned that the lid will push it down into place.

    • @AndyMechanic

      There must be a cable adjuster midway along the cable, undo the locknut & wind out so adjuster grows in length.

    When you say petro are you referencing gasoline or deisel fuel, and does gasoline deteriorate the foam? I enjoy your videos. We have two Grizzly 700's that are fairly new.

    Hey Andy
    I just bought a new 2019 grizzly 700
    Took it out and did 350km is some very dusty conditions in NSW, the dust was like powder.
    When I removed my air filter I noticed a small amount of fine white dust on the intake, I spoke to Yamaha and they said it’s normal to see a very fine white layer
    What do you think of there coment
    Also I serviced my filter the same as you
    Petrol
    Let dry for 24 hours
    Yamaha filter oil submerged the filter and removed alll the oil until I couldn’t get any drips out.
    I let it sit then grease and installed
    When I took it in for the service they said it was too dry and added oil to to it
    Can you remove too much oil when you squeeze the filter ?
    I have some pics I could email you

      Can you answer a question for me. I can't find any information anyplace on the brake being set before the start switch will engage the solenoid and the starter. The only reason I ask is that all pieces have been replaced except the rear brakes don't exist.

    Right next to where the filter seals in the Box there's a little hole and a lot of fluid is coming out that hole and filling up the breather Box what is the problem

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's the engine breather pipe by the sounds of it - likely the piston rings are a little worn & combustion gasses are entering the crank case causing oil to be blown up the breather pipe & into the air box.
      Hope this is of help
      Cheers Andy

    Can I use just regular motor oil to soak the filter in? Or is the Yamaha oil have something special in it that I need

    • @sskyle227
      @sskyle227 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Harless, motor oil is not suitable for foam air filters. Foam filter oil has a high viscosity and will stay in the foam cells where regular oil will not.

    Excellent Tutorial Video! Even a girl can do this! I have a question: How often should I clean the filter on my Grizzly? I am currently riding in Eastern Washington for a week on super fine dusty trails. I’f I’m riding here for a week, every day, should I clean the filter every day? Or would it be sufficient to clean it at the end of the week?

    hi andy!
    I was just gifted a Kodiak 350 from my aunt and am starting to dig into it for a well needed major once over before the riding season starts!
    for the air filter maintenance I have a couple of K&N filter cleaning kits! could I use that to clean and oil the filter?

    • @AndyMechanic
      @AndyMechanic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Chris Michaud Hi, Sorry for the late reply. To be completely honest I haven't tried to use the K&N cleaning kit on a foam type filter.
      I wouldn't recommend it as it may damage the foam or the glue that holds the rim of the filter in place.
      It may work....it may not?
      Personally if I don't have any cleaner I use petrol but that's always a bit risky as it can dissolve the glue on some aftermarket filters. OEM are usually okay with petrol.
      Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
