Me, I've only ever pre-ordered a game if I wanted to send a clearer signal that "yeah, this is a good thing, make more of it"... with the exception of Smash 4. There, the main motivator was the additional controller and more importantly the adapter, as I correctly surmised that would be extremely difficult to find. The fact it works with Ultimate only reaffirms my choice. I should note this wasn't a pre-order bonus, but rather add-ins that would've been rather rare otherwise. Of course, having extra goodies is nice... might influence _how_ I preorder once I've decided to do so.

I’ve seen so many videos about dumb preorder bonuses but no one has ever mentioned the pre-order for Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. I got the Octopath Travelers pop-up book, but the last page of the hunter girl is missing they didn't put the pop-up piece in, so it's just the background.
Nintendo have done some pretty useless ones notably between 5-10 years ago in the Wii U/3DS era. I have a ton of keychains, posters and steel cases saved up from them. The best thing I got was this small game card holder shaped like a Yoshi egg, from Yoshi’s New Island I think. It holds 6 DS games and I still use it even now.
That last punchline kept true to its name, I could FEEL that punchline land like a ton of bricks. Kudos! Consider your blue thumbs up from me well and truly earned.
I don't recall if it was a pre-order bonus or what, but I find it kinda funny that you had a few clips of Star Fox Adventures without mentioning the promo "survival kit" that included toilet paper with the game's logo stamped on every sheet.
Ever since the majority of preorders turned into content removed from the game and given as “bonus downloads” I have not been interested in preorder bonuses. It used to be that you got something physical and worthwhile. I remember the xenosaga ep1 cardstock poster, shadow hearts 2 giving you a copy of shadow hearts 1 as a primer for the second, Wind Waker giving you a copy of ocarina of time and the previously untranslated master quest on a disc, etc. Hell even some games just gave you a demo disc for preordering if it wasn’t a huge release. Arc the lad Twilght of Spirits comes to mind there.
This video is an excellent counter to The Completionists' recent video about the best pre-order bonuses. Remember everyone: The worst time to buy a game or games hardware is on day one.
I once pre-ordered a game by accident, but the good news is it was Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Also, I sort of want that Dead Island Riptide pre-order thing if only as a conversation starter.
I wish that would would get a shirt with preorders. It would be cool to have shirts going back to gamecube/Xbox. While most of them wouldn’t fit, you could probably make a cool blanket out of them. Or I wish that when you preorder a new game in a series you would get an old one. Like they did with windwaker
The only reason I would ever see someone preordering a game is if that someone has absolutely NO patience whatsoever. Apparently, one can't just, you know, wait until Sales Day to buy a game and just want instant gratification. I have never preordered a game in my life, and don't expect to in the future, because I would rather buy a product myself than order a delivery a few days beforehand.
Back in the day we had trading stamps. Whatever you bought came with stamps. In the UK we had three or four main types and when you had enough of them for what you wanted you could trade them in either over the counter or via a catalogue. For instance if you smoked enough of a particular companys cigarettes you could even get a car. Handy because by that stage you'd be on an iron lung anyway. But I digress. Some kind of take it or leave it loyalty scheme for pre ordering is about the only thing I could see working.
The only justification for the 25 extra lives in Lost World is that, before a patch, getting 100 Rings didn't get you an extra life, and the best way to farm lives was doing one auto runner level, nabbing 3 lives in one lane, die and repeat nabbing the 3 lives
Honestly my most hyped preorder bonuses were the poster for Zelda Links Awakening 2019 and the Animal Crossing New Horizons poster. I have them on my walls in my room and its nice to have something like those up. I wish Gamestop here in the US would just do that for all the games because Paper Mario Origami King came with pins and they're cool don't get me wrong but I don't think I would ever wanna use em cuz I'd mess em up. A poster I could hang on my wall and decorate my room with...
I agree the Pre-order for Mankind Divided was bad, but the previous one for Human Revolution was decent. Even if it was near impossible to understand how to claim it. But the stylish metal case, game art book, and full sized poster was a nice counterpoint to paying full price for a discounted preorder to get the collector's edition for the price of the normal game.
As an example of a nice-ish preorder bonus, see Mega Man 11, which gives access to piano versions of the robot master stage themes which you can toggle on/off in the options. It doesn't alter the gameplay, but it's not completely useless (like extra lives that either you don't need or that get used up and are suddenly just not there anymore), and given that Mega Man 11 is a pretty good game all things considered, it's a nice little cherry on top.
I don't think one can honestly call Infamous: Second Son the _worst_ pre-order bonus. It's so silly and edgelord it rolls back around to being entertaining and a good laugh. Plus, at least the things you get with it have some practical purpose.
Since you featured Zero Time Dilemma for like 5 seconds at the beginning, how about a Top 5 Good Pre-Orders That Went Horribly Wrong. Seeing a video talking about the ZTD watch fiasco would be entertaining for sure.
Huh. Well, I preordered the expansion for FFXIV, but I was already kinda enjoying it. I got an earring that grants a +70% EXP bonus up to level 70. I'm very cool with that. Especially given that it works on every combat class
This is why I normally only order special editions that are from franchises I know of are quality, like Xenoblade X and 2's special editions. However, if I'm uncertain on how it'll turn out (like say with Persona Q2) I'll skip on it. This really saved my butt in 2018 when the Jump Force Collectors Edition was announced and I saw that amazing statue of Luffy, Naruto, and Goku. But seeing that the game itself was just another arena brawler and how shaky that genre has been in recent years, I waited. I did eventually get the statue, but through Ebay and for $40. So I'd say I made a pretty good choice.
Can I just point out one of the Best Pre-order Bonuses (that I can remember) for Pre-ordering Crysis 3, I got the Entirety of Crysis 1 for my 360! (Pretty sure that was the case for the PS3 as well) Also I am Convinced that that was a decision by Cry Tech, and not EA!
Honestly I prefer something tangible but extra. Not some add on to the game cuz that means some people are locked out of content which could suck. And something like extra lives is almost mocking. But I think if they included a poster or something that’s cool. If I preorder a game these days it’s typically a game I’m really interested in and have followed. Other wise I don’t bother. So a preorder bonus for me is just a little present to say thanks for buying early. So for me my favorite bonuses were the cayde 6 tiny statue that came with a destiny preorder. A little Goku figure, glow in the dark hair. And a Goku keychain. Both from Xenoverse 2 preorder. These aren’t amazing and expensive items in anyway, nor are they any reason to go out and buy the game. And that’s why they’re my favorite. I already wanted these games. And when I preordered I got cool little figures to display, and I’ve used the Goku keychain for my car keys ever since I got it. They should just be small collectible extras. Not a main incentive or something digital.
I think the last game I pre-ordered was the collector's edition for Spider-Man on the PS4. I collect Spidey figures and statues so the statue was my aim more than anything.
Anyone else remember the prop watches you could get with prordering the final Zero escape game, Zero time dilemma (I think it was through amazon.)? The watches themselves weren't a bad part. The issue was the watches were made really crappily. Not that many people knew that as no-one got the watches. I believe they all got sent to one person. And when people did eventually get them, most of them were broken. I may have gotten some of the details wrong as it has been a few years, and I had to follow this from England as it was a US only thing.
Bad pre-order bonuses I feel would be bonuses that fail at incentivizing the pre-order. Something like the 25 extra lives or 200 potions are such luke warm bonuses that they fail at what they were meant to do. Then there's failed special editions, which can be considered pre-orders you pay extra for, which could be a whole other video itself.

@@talkinghoorse6936 someone in the comments saying something you disagree with? oh the humanity!
seriously "but video games are interactive" is one of the most brain dead arguments you can make for a "video games aren't art" debate. musicians? not *real* artists, people can sing along to songs. intricate cake decorators? bah! their "art" gets *eaten* by the audience. architects? forget about it. there's sculptors out here calling themselves "artists" when you can touch the status, what pretentious wannabes.
I think it depends on what game it is, CoD or Tekken, probably not art, except for certain levels in CoD. Death Stranding or Dark Souls, totally art. Until Dawn or Heavy Rain, basically movies, and we think those are art. Fifa or Madden, art in the same way "Modern art" is really art.
My favorite preorder bonus is still the Lugia figure I got from preordering SoulSilver back in the day. It’s dynamic and really beautiful, and maybe it spoiled me early on, since I’ve been disappointed with nearly every bonus since.
I legit thought those glow in the dark condoms were something I thought up of in a fever dream. Now I can rest easy knowing that that was an actual thing...
*Sniff* I'm not crying you are.
Top 5 Times Devs went "Fuck it, we'll make the next game ourselves since you won't do it!".
Paper Mario and Bug Fables: The Everlasting Sapling come to mind.
Video games are games that use Art to enhance the experience. There's some cases where it's the opposite, but 99% of the time this is the case.
I like that "Top 5 Characters that Deserve Their Own Game" from the video.
Rosalina and "Tennessee Kid" Cooper are the two that immediately leap to my mind.
The preorder bonus for The Rub Rabbits was a lucky rabbit's foot. Like, y'know, one of those keychains made of fake fur wrapped around some wire? I didn't even preorder the game, but I was a big enough fan of Feel The Magic: XY/XX that I got The Rub Rabbits the week it came out. The GameStop employees gave me a keychain because not a single person had preordered or even bought the game before me.
Last time I was this early, Rabbid Luigi wasn't in a video game.
Video games ARE art. It contains the typical art, it makes people experience and emotion if done right, it contains music. Just because it's interaction, doesn't mean it ain't art???
Bruh. Next countdown. Top 10 games that can truly be considered Art.
Sonic Lost World could easily come with something like a Sonic item.
A deadly six statue would've been awesome! A great pre order bonus in my book!
a bobble head would be cool
“Congratulations for watching this video early” as I get here mere minutes after this video comes out
“That’s...why I’m here-“
Heh
That's Dunban over there!
I still remember hearing from a friend that one Kickstarter bonus for Shovel Knight was literal dirt.
True
Too bad "Sin to Win" couldn't make the list....
Not a preorder bonus, but it's still weird as fuck.
Looked up the wallet
Love it
Too expensive for my paygrade
Order a cheaper knockoff
Turns out it's better
Some knock-off products are surprisingly good!
I’m no Brand Bitch so I am okay with that! XD
I’ve been a fan of your channel since 2012 rabbid and you get better every year man! Love the content man, keep being awesome! Love from Mexico
Are videogames art? Uh... yeah? Game design is a major in _art school_ so that would kind of lend itself to being an art. lol
I argue that Deus Ex's preorder scheme should have been no. 1 cause whilst Second Son's preorder bonus was good for a laugh I feel like an insidious preorder scheme easily trumps it.
The Battleborn segment hurt me.. bc I really did love it. One of the reasons why I don’t play OW tbh.. game was actually a lot of fun. Wrong time to be released tho. *sigh* what a shame..
I really liked the characters from battleborn, and the character progression. Sad that it died as fast as it did.
unholyone Super sad. I was rooting for it. If they ever make another game like that they need way better marketing. .-.
Top 5 worst transitions to 3D (franchises that started 2D, but failed when trying 3D)
Top 5 most revolutionary videogames
Top 5 forgotten consoles/platforms
I'm trying to think of 3 new topics every week. Pretty fun to do actually. So far so good
How about a top five of games inspired by other games? Or top 5 spiritual successors. Been replaying Azure Striker Gunvolt and it feels like a better spiritual successor to MegaMan than Mighty Number 9 ever was.
Safe to say Fromsoftware has some of the best preorders ever in this industry.
So you're saying that video games aren't art... they're _better_ than art?
Fully agree!
This would be the video that I stumble across 11 seconds after it's uploaded.
Lucky
That thumbnail will haunt my dreams. Or my nightmares, I'm not sure anymore.
It's nice that unlike most of the lists on this topic, he's pointing out some of these were only in certain places and it didn't take that many extra words to do so.
You know, what I did learn about Battleborn was enough to peak my interest and I ended up preordering the game, and I played it basically until Overwatch came out, while telling all my friends about the clunky UI and sound design that didn't make weapons feel particularly satisfying to use.
And funny thing, to this day I've never even looked inside the box to see which character my statue is.
15:37 Probably one of the best transitions I’ve ever seen
What is this games aren't art nonsense? Games can be art just as much as any painting or sculpture. If you're talking high culture/art, ask Poland what they think of The Witcher 3. They gave it to the President of the United States in an official capacity.
The only "pre-ordering" I do now is on Kickstarter lol
Top 5 games that you can get completely lost in. Description: A game in where if you take a long break then come back to play you have no idea where you were and what you had to do in order to progress.
Most Zelda games
Most RPGs.

I want that rabbit, I need to give my Beagle something to play with.
My beagle: "Bruh, I'm 10 years old, an adult such as myself is in no position to play with silly toys anymore."
... (Sniff) You don't have to be so mean!
I like your vids Rabbidluigi but is there a way for you to cut down on the ads youtube puts up since you already have a sponsor/ad In the video?
It gets really annoying having 5 ads interrupt mid vídeo plus the obligatory ones before watching the video
I’ve seen so many videos about dumb preorder bonuses but no one has ever mentioned the pre-order for Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. People who preorder the game get two paraglide skins for Sly and an alt costume for Murray.
Sounds cool but those are things that are already in the game and can be unlocked really easily.
I typically only pre-order special editions of a game I am already excited for like Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade 2, or Octopath Traveller.
I got the Octopath Travelers pop-up book, but the last page of the hunter girl is missing they didn't put the pop-up piece in, so it's just the background.
@@MsHood1986 I'm sorry, that stinks.
Funny thing is I took a break to focus on watching other content creators, and am just watching this now for the first time.
I certainly can't get enough of rabbit merchandise/decorations.
Haven't you ever gotten in a glow-stick sword fight as a kid...this is the escalation of that?
i see you're Shwarts is as big as mine!
The worst pre-order bonus is any retailer exclusive.
Your videos are like a warm hug to me on a sad day, thanks RabbidLuigi
im just gonna assume the art thing was just a poorly executed joke somehow because im sure you're smarter than that.

Sonic Colors for the Wii had a really cool pre order bonus. I still have that hat somewhere too
The Infamous: Second Son pre-order item is tragic, because it’s such a good game and deserves to be remembered for more than a glowing jimmy-hat.
I think a top 5 best (or worst) console to handheld game ports would be an interesting video
Depends on the fire, some fires are put out by explosions, even though it might seem counter-intuitive.
Wind Waker for GC had the best pre-order bonus. It came with a disc with Ocarina of Time and OoT Master Quest.
As an example of a nice-ish preorder bonus, see Mega Man 11, which gives access to piano versions of the robot master stage themes which you can toggle on/off in the options. It doesn't alter the gameplay, but it's not completely useless (like extra lives that either you don't need or that get used up and are suddenly just not there anymore), and given that Mega Man 11 is a pretty good game all things considered, it's a nice little cherry on top.
okay but rabbidluigi, I actually do want your rabbit statue. seriously I love bunnies.
The villains in Sonic Lost World look like Pokémon rejects.
I don't think one can honestly call Infamous: Second Son the _worst_ pre-order bonus. It's so silly and edgelord it rolls back around to being entertaining and a good laugh. Plus, at least the things you get with it have some practical purpose.
I really hope somebody buys that Saints Row 4 pack at some point.
(Pretty sure that was the case for the PS3 as well)
Also I am Convinced that that was a decision by Cry Tech, and not EA!
Love your top fives because they teach me about new things, not just your opinions. Keep it up :)
Sonic Lost World would be my #1 on that.
Most of the Nintendo poster preorder bonuses are kinda annoying
Bad pre-order bonuses I feel would be bonuses that fail at incentivizing the pre-order. Something like the 25 extra lives or 200 potions are such luke warm bonuses that they fail at what they were meant to do.
Then there's failed special editions, which can be considered pre-orders you pay extra for, which could be a whole other video itself.
