- When Charles Borskey started Sportsmobile in 1961 he had no idea it would rise to the iconic status it holds today as the ultimate vehicle for adventure camping or simply looking like a badass. Specializing in converting full size vans into custom tailored recreational vehicles, Sportsmobiles can be found in deserts, rain forests and mall parking lots. For approximately $70,000-$80,000 you can buy a Ford, Chevy or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter and have it converted into arguably the most powerful and versatile RV ever created.

Very nice..BUT, for just about the same price I can get the top of the line truck camper and very well equipped F450 4x4..and ya, duel purpose!!
Camper trailer, then it could be too long or not go off road. Camper in the bed, could be too top heavy for off camber stuff, or it might not fit in a shipping container if the truck is lifted and would have to be separated and cost more to go to another continent. There are reasons why people try to fit it all in smaller vehicles.

This video hardly showcases the 4X4 capabilities of the vans especially considering the guy boasts it can go nearly anywhere.

Fully decked out for an expedition they are very heavy so my guess is that not the best performing 4x4. Still it beats carrying the same weight on 4 tires but with a 4x2.

On paper yes, but when you drive one, you may change your mind. I'm not a huge fan of leaf springs, but my van rides extremely well.
xjinit Apparently you don’t know, or even understand suspension systems.
Ask the new Corvettes if they like leafs. Ask numerous “Super Cars” if they like their leafs.
Those vans are EXTREMELY off-road capable, and on road they handle better than most cars.
Go drive one, then comment on TH-cam.

Ford has discontinued their full size van. So the 4x4 van is a thing of the past.
Ford doesn't make full size eco line vas anymore, but they do make them with the cab and bed. Smb is making their own shells for the back now, and continuing the ford line. They call it the "classic."
I saw that. Should be a good move.
