HTTP2 is definitely going to work similarly to websockets. ActionCable and websockets will absolutely still be around for a long time and possibly won't go away with HTTP2 because it's more designed to improve HTTP, not necessarily provide a full realtime replacement. They may eventually merge, but that doesn't seem to be the plan right now.
