  • This is the director's cut to a CISSP webinar session done with Prabh Nair (INFOSEC TRAIN) on "How To Think Like A Manager for the CISSP Exam". It contains important questions to ask yourself, primary CISSP concepts to know, understanding if you need to be "technical" for the CISSP exam, and a quick few minutes on what to expect from my CISSP book "How To Think Like A Manager for the CISSP Exam by Luke Ahmed".

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:04 🎬 The video is a "Director's Cut" version of a webinar done with an instructor named Prav from InfoSec Train, who handled the webinar professionally.
01:19 🧠 Thinking like a manager is crucial for the CISSP exam. It involves understanding interconnectedness between domains and taking a high-level view of security in an organization.
07:07 🔄 Asking "why" repeatedly helps to understand security concepts at a deeper level and think like a manager.
10:06 🤝 Interconnected understanding is essential; all CISSP domains relate to each other, and policies from domain one impact decisions in other domains.
15:11 💼 Passing the CISSP exam makes you a more knowledgeable security professional, regardless of the result. It's about becoming a better practitioner and understanding security at a managerial level.
24:50 🔄 Continuing to ask "why" helps align thought process with that of an information security manager, enabling better decision-making in the CISSP exam.
25:20 💡 When preparing for the CISSP exam, focus on understanding concepts rather than memorizing specific details like port numbers or encryption types.
26:17 💼 Prioritize human safety above all else. Protect and save your fellow human beings at all costs, as their lives are of astronomical significance.
27:28 🛡️ Behave ethically and follow the ISC² code of ethics. Ethical decisions are vital in the field of security and can be tested on the CISSP exam.
28:38 💰 Maximize corporate profits while ensuring security measures are in place to prevent incidents that could waste money.
30:17 🔒 Understand and minimize threats using management decisions, such as accepting, avoiding, rejecting, or transferring risks.
31:29 💸 Ensure all controls are cost-justified. Don't overspend on security measures that exceed the value of the assets they protect.
32:23 🕴️ Senior management must drive the security program. Decisions should come from the top and be aligned with the organization's objectives.
33:29 🚫 Security professionals should have no decision-making authority unless assigned by management. Act like a hired consultant rather than taking direct actions.
34:53 🤖 Utilize automated tools when appropriate. Automated processes can be more efficient and effective in handling certain security tasks.
50:28 🔒 Understanding the difference between encrypting with a public key and signing with a private key is essential. Public key encryption and digital signatures provide confidentiality, integrity, authentication, and non-repudiation.
50:58 🏢 Before engaging with a cloud vendor, conduct thorough research and risk assessment. Ensure they follow common criteria, assurance levels, and capability maturity integration model (CMMI) steps to manage your risks effectively.
52:39 📚 Data handling involves important concepts like data classification, marking, labeling, and meta tags. Transforming data into useful information is crucial for decision-making and analysis.
53:34 🚀 For starting an Information Security Program, know the processes and roles involved. Management plays a key role in approval, funding, and addressing security concerns in the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Business Continuity Planning/Disaster Recovery Planning (BCP/DRP).
58:58 🗝️ Certificate Authorities (CAs) are crucial in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) for providing trust and enabling secure communication between client and server using certificates.
01:00:09 ☁️ When dealing with cloud vendors, prepare Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) to ensure proper security of your infrastructure, as cloud vendor risks become your risks.
01:04:25 📡 While technical knowledge is not a prerequisite, understanding network security concepts like encryption, IPS/IDS, IPsec, federated identity, VLANs, and TCP/UDP protocols will be beneficial for the CISSP exam.
01:14:11 📘 The webinar is about thinking like a manager for the CISSP exam and introducing a book.
01:14:38 📖 The book "Think Like a Manager" is designed to unlock the reader's brain to think like a manager in CISSP scenarios.
01:17:26 💡 The book provides practice questions with suggested mentality and strategy to analyze choices thoroughly for the best answer.
01:19:20 🧠 The book emphasizes thinking like a manager during the CISSP exam and provides tips to build the necessary mindset and endurance.
01:21:27 🔑 The book presents core CISSP concepts and encourages understanding rather than memorization of information.
01:22:12 📚 After studying the book, readers can apply the "think like a manager" concepts to other CISSP practice questions for better retention.
01:25:17 ⏳ The book's effective use depends on the candidate's experience level, starting studying about 6 months before the exam.
01:27:36 📅 The book's role evolves over time, with specific uses depending on the candidate's progress (3 months, 1 month before the exam).
01:30:42 📝 The book is not solely responsible for the exam's outcome; success depends on learning and applying the concepts effectively.

Luke, can't THANK YOU ENOUGH! this video was a game changer for me, specially over the 'technical' parts - your guidance over 'do you know this? what is xyz for? where to apply it?" helped me organize my studies with 3 days before the exam, I finally understood! I'm not from a technical background and I was honestly concerned.
    1st attempt, 125 questions.

Don't put a $10 lock on a $5 bike is how an old instructor put it. Also, sensitive but unclassified is used in military systems. It's not considered "classified" in the sense that it's confidential/secret/top secret because the contents don't affect national security, but the data could still be sensitive (often due to PII).
