  • Gnarly Routes riders Russell Bobbitt and Cole Kirkpatrick challenge all riders to post their time and video from a full run on 5 MOH.
    Sit back and watch the crazy lines, listen to the heavy breathing and witness gnarly riding in one of the Utah's most challenging public trails!
    Use caution when riding this trail as it is in a very remote location with zero phone service and limited bail out points.

    I just broke my collar bone 4 weeks ago riding of all things a scramble out in Oregon. I was relaxed and riding about the same pace ( with 1% the difficulty) so now my arm is out of a sling, part of my personal P.T. regiment is to watch some good MX riding. This is beyond, having ridden out in Moab a few times, watching this is making the metal plate on my clavicle hum...my stomach clenches and i found myself watching this and forcing myself into breathing like I was exercising...Seriously epic ride for both of you. Looking back at the video, what were some Oh Shyt moments for you personally? I got the side hill climb that was almost a role back, but any others? Thank you for posting this!

    • @gnarlyroutes
      @gnarlyroutes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not too many oh shit moments, Russell had a hard hit that he mentions in the video but the toughest thing was that the trail doesn't give you anywhere to relax. Especially when doing it without stopping.

    The official trail is actually 13 miles the hard stuff is close to 9 miles. I meet a guy that runs a 70 mile loop. When we rode it we did the other trails plus Red Trail then 5MoH trail. For normal people it's a good warm up them because if you are not feeling it it's best to then not do 5MoH.

    • @gnarlyroutes
      @gnarlyroutes  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was a pretty brutal trail ride, we were working that's for sure but not taking any unnecessary risk. Bobbitt is a five-time national enduro champion so his trail riding pace is very fast. We also agree, hats off to anyone that can ride this trail. It's not easy, no matter the speed.

    Horrible stuff to ride over. Imagine if you will, on a trail ride with the guys from work. You are on a 1972 Yamaha 250 Enduro, stock. The trail degenerates into a downhill rock slide with chest high puckerbushes made of 4130 Chrome Molly Steel. It's getting dark, you are thirty miles from the truck. You have no water, since the bushes have liberated the canteen from your belt. Pretty soon the trail is going straight down, over huge rocks and the remains of dead puckerbushes. You hear a sound, like a freeway off in the distance. You abandon your riding pals from work, and find interstate five. You re-trace your route back to your truck, finding no one there. With your keys locked in your buddy's the toy box. Along with the cooler full of cold beer, and food. It is going to be a long night.

    As a retired 45 year long trail rider, I loved this video. That was my kind of ride. On your feet most of the time. Great trail.

    How do you even set your suspension for something like that....as soft as tolerable? #askingforafriend

    • @gnarlyroutes
      @gnarlyroutes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as soft as tolerable.

    That looks super gnarly easy. I am 100% sure my 57=year old body and my super tweaked all stock CRF450x could easily make this ride.....Like NOT.
    You guys are superpro. I'll Binky Up and put my Got Milk sticker on the bike.
    I pulled a hamstring and dropped my bike twice just watching this vid.

    I was curious on who, if any has completed the 45 minute challenge on 'Five Miles of Hell'. A disclaimer for those who ride. Don't do 5 MOH in the Utah summer.

    Holy crap you guys! That was amazing. Now I will dream of doing this trail in that fashion.

    Looks like 5 miles of challenging fun, if you call it "HELL" then maybe you should ride around the camp! Oooh yea n I'm 62 years old n still ride challenging enduros. We look for areas like this to ride. Own 2 KTM's 350 & 500 both XC-W's

    Nice riding guys. Certainly pretty rugged terrain. But a long way from hell. A beautiful area to ride in.

      When you're riding the Gnar, you might as well be on the moon; you're concentrating so much on riding you're not even aware of what the landscape in the distance looks like.

    Oh my God. Great job tackling that stuff. Do you use mouse or tubeless? Can't see any inner tube holding up to pinch flats there

    Unbelievable, I would be happy to finish in 4 times the amount of time! Amazing riding. I don't understand how you can ride at that pace -giving it all you got on exteme terrain- basically non stop for 40+min

    Ok...now you two need to do that ride again on a couple of trials bikes and see if your faster or slower...less suspension but way lighter and more nimble...

    Is the trail easily discernable? At several points I couldn't tell if you should go left, right, or straight over that mountain of rock...

    • @NitroAl
      @NitroAl 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      See the white lines painted on the trail? there is a white dash every 5m or so and a curved one for the turns

    • @jr.2461
      @jr.2461 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NitroAl .. Thanks for the reply. I didn't notice the white lines. Probably due to the fast pace they took the trail at.

    • @gnarlyroutes
      @gnarlyroutes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      As nitro said, we followed white paint but there were several times that we missed turns and lost the paint briefly.

    Nice riding! This trail took me about 3 hours on my 525EXC. I was pretty proud of myself for finishing in one piece! They are past all the hardest parts by the 13:00 mark. After that it's still a huge challenge because you're exhausted, but nothing quite as technical as up to that point. Also, rekluse FTW. I don't care if you call me a cheater!
